@JFKWHATITDO Dude Jeff Demps ran that 10.01 at the Olympic Trials while still in HS. I am pretty sure it is a safe bet that the Olympic Trials are accurate lol
exqb18: man come on if those old cinder(dirt)tracks were so hard take a look at the amount of dirt being flung in the air off the shoes. i'm 54 and ran track back in high school
72-76 and ran my share on a few cinder tracks-THEY SLOW YOU THE HELL DOWN!
we always looked forward to running on the newer rubberized suface tracks cause we knew we were gonna shave some good times off our best runs on cinder.dirt track 46 yrs ago 10.05,sorry Holiday gets smoked by hayes
and bob hayes ran 10.05 46 yrs ago on a DIRT(yes loose dirt track) in tokyo. he also clicked off a 9.91 in a prelim on that same crappy dirt track(wind just over legal). these guys 46 yrs later are running these times on modern faster surface tracks. hayes today would smoke these guys, holiday, demps, ford, etc...
Dirt Tracks were watered then rolled and left to dry in the sun. They ended up being hard like concrete on top but gave better traction because runners could wear spikes.
I know the tracks used to be hard because i work at a minor league baseball park, when we water the infeild dirt and it dries in the sun it is extremely hard.
@gatorsgotspeed1 you mean senior. and on a fast track, and with an ideal backwind. Demps consistently got smacked down by holliday last year and holliday ran 10.00. Demps did win this year, mad props, he ran 9.96 but with an illegal backwind. Demps will be faster than holliday was, but he still has to beat 10 with legal wind.
I've never been to a high school Invitational that didn't use FAT timing. dual or tri meets use stop watches but every invitational i've ran at or been to used FAT
First there was Walter Dix in 07 then Richard Thompson and Travis Padgett in 08 all 3 have broken 10.0 in the 100m, all 3 broke Ato Boldin's collegiate record in the 100m which stood for 12 years. Then there was Thompson again in 08 in the 60m, running 6.51 at the 08 NCAA Indoor Championships and then Jacoby Ford this year who ran 6.52. I mean having those elite sprinters in 3 consecutive years is unheard of and all during Holliday's tenure at LSU.
Holliday's taking the national championship this year, it's been ridiculously tough for him though. It's insane to think for someone that's been sprinting at his caliber (10.01/6.54) that he hasn't taken home a national title in the 60m or 100m. It's just weird how circumstance plays out in most years run sub 10.1/6.5low would guarantee you the title, but unfortunately for Holliday he's had to go up against some of the fastest sprinters in collegiate t&f history the last 3 years.
