Haha! Me, it's the friggin' DADGAD domination that gets on my tit: sure it's a good sound, esp. on modal kinda tunes, but now it's become the One True Way for accomanying chunes: just as annoying a cliché as thumping ham-fisted pianney was a generation or two back, imho.

he probably doesnt mean that he hates the bouzouki in irish music, just the fact that they seem to have a bouzouki in EVERY traditional irish band these days. it's like how everyone ceilidh has a damn accordian player. I HATE the accordian in scottish music, and i now associate it with tourists just because of how many there are

Ahahah! As a bouzouki player I guess I'm as entitled to laugh as anyone. Sorry about this all, Mr. Moynihan, but really, if not for the bouzouki you'd be hearing guitar instead. Is that all THAT different?

@bdcgm God's curse on ALL zum zum instruments that strangle the natural rhythms of ITM and we fiddlers etc can but grin and bear it.
I nearly got lynched at an all Ireland after asking a bouzouki-player to ease off - even though he had just ruined a session. He was AWFUL.
ps I'd just won second place so perhaps I wasn't the BEST to advise.
