The point is that regardless how much it moved it is still a penalty. Where does it stop being a penalty - 2 mm, 3mm, 1 foot, 1 yard - c'mon people who know the game.

ANd the new rule is that if you are putting and you ground your putter behind the ball and the ball moves due to the wind then their is no penalty. What Padraig did was that he didnt realise he moved the ball. Calm the hell down everyone.. :L
actually the rule states that moving the ball while placing a marker behind the ball or taking it away is not a violation so long as the ball is replaced. It looks as if he thought that the ball just a rocked back and forth a little and that is probably why he didnt replace it. And as far is I can tell that is exactly what happened but stupid no it all's that actually dont know anything strike again.
i think he was trying not to move the ball--sorry guys it doesnt look good.it looks bad but he was trying to make the marker touch the ball.i place the marker away from the ball and replace the ball the same estimated distance away when i replace it .this is to avoid this problem..

@lin4say padraig harrington is renowned as one of the most honest golfers out there he made a mistake, the ball moved 2 to 3 dimples which would not have helped him with that long putt. Anyone who say he is cheating are being ridiculous he made a mistake he admitting watching it back that yes it did move but he didnt know when he was takign the marker away that it did, there were officials near him who if they saw it would bring it to attention but it was so little they didnt even notice
