Why I heard a fire truck honking?

  • The green ones were fairly smooth - auto gearbox i think.

Cyclists havent changed - still darting in/out of gaps

  • No 30kph crap back then lol....and no crazy paving on O'Connell str

  • love it thanks for the sharing

  • High Vis were not out in 1985 or were Helmets for Cyclists emissions Turf or a drop of red stufff

  • Thanks for posting these. Its like back to the future. The 1980sn are here again. Or maybe worse.

  • I noticed 2 x no.22 s in succession, typical, the bastards, I was probably at the stop cursing the feckers after waiting nearly an hour

  • Dublin in 2011 IS Calcutta....

  • @olliespike2 I'm glad u used the words "we suck" for that my friend includes you!!

  • Dublin in 1985 looks like Calcutta

  • the Irish have spent the last 100 drinking and bowing down and sucking the arse of the Catholic Church..praying for a better life..whilst the rest of intelligent eurpope and the world actually got on with it making it happen..look at a country like Germany for example...Huge , yes but totally bankrupt after both wars..instead of bigging themselves up they get on with forming Porsche, Audi, Mercedes, BMW, VW etc..We have had a couple of good writers..but by and large we suck.

  • @olliespike2 At least we have you. And your UKIP friends.

  • Gosh the city really had a lot of smog bk then!!!!!!!!!! Damn....... Still nice to see the old buses..... They bring bk childhood memories of what Dublin use to be...... =]

  • there were many brave cyclists there without a care in the world, hould onto that guys bonnett whilst i cross the junction on my bike, i know i'll block the road with my 40ft trailer, not a high viz or bit of lane discipline in sight !

  • Of all the vehicles in these videos, I wonder how many of them (if any) have survived to this day?

  • one thing that will never change in dublin.. is the amount of buses!

  • Mental, those old Dublin Corpy Atlanteans give me a twitch in me keks :-)

  • @maplebanks

I agree ..it will always remain a " Kip"....

the new money made it look like the largest knackers holding site in the world...i mean...look at the way they drive..?..savages..it really is a hole.

we Irish have a huge, huge inflated sense of importance when all we really are is an old English port.

  • wow you're an idiot. port? it was the British Empires Second capital you twat. You're from Cork I take it?

  • We all know what it was Fuckface but when they left they took all their money with them and the place fell apart...we then get more money then we could have dreamed of and what do we do ?..

Build aload of cheap apartments on every piece of land we can find...and imagine we are all rich ???

As I said inflated egodriven Knackers the lot of them.

  • @olliespike2 You sir, are AN IDIOT :) goodbye

  • they still don't know how to drive properly they're getting worse

  • Give me the 36A to ballymun any day!!!

  • fuckin hell the state of thos cars and did people not no how to drive properly back then

  • If the owner of this video is watching the comments and has a clearer version of this at home, I'd like to know if you can zoom in on the reg plate of the silver 1980/81 Toyota Carina that passed the outside of the UNO Paint bus...

  • Omg look at how KD202 202OZU tried to pull out and dodge traffic. Must be a nightmare to drive at that time, the traffic was so unorganized

  • Ah Jack KD202`s driver had little choice but to manouvere past the Audi 100 that planted itself directly in front of him (On the Yellow Box )

(Note the Busdrivers use of the Right Indicator)

As this clip proves some €60 Million and 24 years later things at this junction remain EXACTLY the same.

This is what makes us different from the "Real" europeans...they would have used the Celtic Tiger billions to engineer their way out of the problem,we just scratched our heads and wondered.

  • Yh look at the end of the vid the driver in bombardier had to break sharply, so he won't hit the coach on the right. Im surprised there were no accident's in this video.

  • lol anyone remember the pink buses in dublin!!

  • Jasus, what a mess! Great vid.

  • class video.

i love seein dublin back in the day

  • there seem to be more bicycles then cars on the roads at the time lol.

  • excellent stuff!

  • Brilliant stuff !! The bus fumes at the start and random people runin round ..Classic ! I agree with you Fuuukkky bout the more old everyday footage. :-) R.I.P Ronnie Drew.

  • 1985 dublin still grappling with yellow boxes ;D

  • o connell street looks shit now

  • thanks for posting this it was good to see all the old hiaces,k30's datsuns, i forgot half of these cars ever existed

  • the granby sausages bus at the start quality i love these old vis lol

  • ah the year i was born:) the amount of people on bikes its mad how times have changed

  • jasus was only thinkin how not much changes at all

  • this is classic stuff... i drive around town 5 days a week and im tellin yea yea have to drive like a mad fecker 2 get around the place so it hasn't changed in that way. i love it

  • ... and the adverts for tax free savings on the buses... nudge nudge wink wink

  • wow...Dublin looked like a kip even back in the 80s

  • It's like Bangladesh :0 :)

  • I wonder how many of all the vehicles shown in this video are still on the roads today. Not many I reckon.

  • 0:06. The smoke from that Leyland coach is unreal! Running a bit rich!

  • Its interesting to see the difference between the way things were, then and now. See the coach at the start of the clip belching out heavy emissions, resulting in a smog the lenght of the street. Note the many cyclists, no high-vis, no helmets. See also how the box junctions are regularly blocked and other traffic has to weave around the stopped vehicles. At end of clip, another coach with heavy emissions. This is the first of many clips supplied by, and many thanks to, Liam Fay.

    Des.

  • @tecmovie Yes, that was some hilarious smog! Also the cyclists at the beginning are on the wrong side of the road unless they were turning right soon :D Good old times!

  • @tecmovie i came across this footage whilst looking for footage/images of Dublin in the 80's. I'm not a bus enthusiast per se, it's dublin i wanna see. Do you know of any websites that show images or photos of dublin in the 1980's?
