i bet this was the time around after steve vai accidentally broke EVO's neck and got replaced by another neck.. and the rhythm guitar plays steve vai's red lace i think?
Incredible Intro synch with the Drumstick & Tremelo Bar!! reminds me of Buckethead noises but done naturally, plus that beautiful song by Vai, 5 Stars thanks for sharing
Vai is freaking awesome...I've loved him since Crossroads/Bill & Ted's Excellent adventure (lol).
I remember buying this album and playing along to it all the time! (I'm a drummer).
...what's funny about this video is thinking about how people dressed back then. I mean...check these guys out. They were probably the coolest of the cool back in the day...and now it kind of looks like a costume!
Hahaha people definitely DID NOT dress like that in the 90s. I believe Steve Vai and Mike Keneally dressed like that just to be odd/eccentric dudes on stage.
He also developed a fluid left hand technique due to playing wide neck seven string guitars (you can't play them like 6 stringers). If you notice his thumb stays mostly on the back of the neck and rarely hugs the neck like most rockers, and his hand is so relaxed. Playing in this fashion and keeping my fingers relaxed, practiciing slow, has literally changed my guitar playing. It wasn't easy at first to get rid of bad habits, but it really changes you for the better. I owe it all to VAI.
he is a genius. vai once said he looks at his guitar as a second voice. Learn the alphabet of the guitar and use it to form words in order to tell a story. I used this style of thinking when practicing scales and I pretty much now know where all the notes are on the fretboard once I hear them in my head. I can now play anything I hear in my head. Now I know how he plays. He hears it in his head, then he uses his guitars voice to sing. This is a miracle for improv guitar.
1:06 i like that sound

That's a fair point. lol
I did have a couple of the excessively bright silk shirts though...not going to lie.
But yea...I'm sure Vai was as much super characture of life as he now...I know I don't dress like he does now, either!
