  • anybody knows the name of that other guitarist? He is very good

  • Mike Keneally ... he also plays keyboards/piano/organ very well. Everyone was blown away how good this guy was 12 years ago when he played with Vai.

  • There is a new candy JUST for guitarists. They are called "Tremola Bars!" Eat up...

  • wow!!!

I was in this concert in Santiago - Chile 1997...was the best concert i have ever seen...Philip Bynoe was the best bassist playing with Stve.

This is from a DVD video?

  • NO WAAAAAY have you heard TM Stevens?

  • Coool!!!!!!!

  • i loveee the intro!

  • The intro is so funky :D

  • that scratching intro is freakin awesome!

  • yeaaaaaaaaaaaah 0_0

  • I love the pick scratching part :P

  • Vai is freaking awesome...I've loved him since Crossroads/Bill & Ted's Excellent adventure (lol).

I remember buying this album and playing along to it all the time! (I'm a drummer).

...what's funny about this video is thinking about how people dressed back then. I mean...check these guys out. They were probably the coolest of the cool back in the day...and now it kind of looks like a costume!

    Awesome vid...thanks for posting!

  • Hahaha people definitely DID NOT dress like that in the 90s. I believe Steve Vai and Mike Keneally dressed like that just to be odd/eccentric dudes on stage.

  • That's a fair point. lol

I did have a couple of the excessively bright silk shirts though...not going to lie.

But yea...I'm sure Vai was as much super characture of life as he now...I know I don't dress like he does now, either!

  • cool

  • This is a great song..I'm still trying to learn how to play it but I'm nowhere as good as Steve Vai himself =]

  • No one is :D

  • keep playing - you never know how hood you can be, until u try IMHO.

  • vai te amo

  • I want bask in his glory for at least 34 seconds.

  • no, somebody else

  • steve actually SAYS "phillip bynoe on bass"..

  • ppl dont pay attention...

  • who's the second guitarist? he's also very talented but unfortunately due to you tube's poor audio quality, you can't hear him all too well

  • Mike Keneally

  • vai is god!

  • Who cant call Vai a god

  • chuck norris

  • loved it.

  • Its kick ass! Vai rocks!

  • for such a guitar player - he really has not mastered air guitar. i'll let him off...

  • awesome bassline at the beginning (Y)

  • Why is the bass louder than the second guitar? <:3

  • sounds good to me

  • ask them?hehehe

  • the person who put this up spelt guitar wrong in the description... great video tho,

  • You didn't capitalize the beginning of your sentences and your ended a sentence with a comma.

  • awesone!!!

  • Amazing tone...

  • Nice

  • Es increible!

  • im speechless

  • One of my favorite Fire Garden songs.... Well... Pretty much all of Phase One is my favorite >_>

  • and the bass player doesn' have anything to envy to marcus miller or victor wooten.

  • Mike Keneally is incredible, two virtuoso on the same concert. I will have wanted to born in USA.

  • what an absurdly awesome bass!

  • agreed! ive never seen that before

  • es increible la armonia y el feeling con el que interpreta esta cancion. ME ENCANTA ESTA ROLA !!!

  • For the part before the song "starts" how does he get those scratching noises while strumming?

  • mute the strings

  • u mean the wah? u buy a wah pedal and make and up and down motion with your foot, then pickscrape or use your wammy bar to scratch the strings.

  • Huh really? Thanks!

  • listen to the start of voodoo child(slight return) by hendrix

  • He also developed a fluid left hand technique due to playing wide neck seven string guitars (you can't play them like 6 stringers). If you notice his thumb stays mostly on the back of the neck and rarely hugs the neck like most rockers, and his hand is so relaxed. Playing in this fashion and keeping my fingers relaxed, practiciing slow, has literally changed my guitar playing. It wasn't easy at first to get rid of bad habits, but it really changes you for the better. I owe it all to VAI.

  • he is a genius. vai once said he looks at his guitar as a second voice. Learn the alphabet of the guitar and use it to form words in order to tell a story. I used this style of thinking when practicing scales and I pretty much now know where all the notes are on the fretboard once I hear them in my head. I can now play anything I hear in my head. Now I know how he plays. He hears it in his head, then he uses his guitars voice to sing. This is a miracle for improv guitar.

  • Very few players can match Vai in his ability to make noises with a guitar.

  • This one is always the best

  • Youtube has been deleting videos like this, what a bunch of bastards. Hopefully they wont delete this one this time

  • Super!
