@bangcupid007 It's still working but I am finding I am using less and less. Two reason, it's heavy, and it requires lots of lights to work well indoor. Outdoor is good.

I was considering buying this lens for my d3100 but i became hesitant after seeing your video. I just wanted to know if you are still experiencing problems with this lens or does it work fine. I am a begginer photographer and i've been saving to buy this lens and dont feel like losing my money in 1 or 2 month time.
@MrFearfulAngel The Sigma lens is still working fine. The picture quality is still very good. However, I am finding myself using less of it. The main reason being this type of lens (or even other similar type) is a slower lens at the telephoto range (F6.3) which means it needs more light to focus and have proper exposure. If you do a lot of outdoor pictures during the day, then it's no problem. I do a lot of pictures of my kids at indoor events where I can't use a flash.
I face faulty for my 18-200mm dc os lens... the problem of my lens is error 01 which shown on my Canon 60d lcd. hopefully am not that bad luck to get few trips to sattle it
hi, how is ur lens now? its been a year you made this video, because I would I to purchase one, but after I see ur great video, now I should really have to consider it. Thanks pal
I have had a similar experience with canon, Got a 70-200mm 2.8L is and it had bad back focus issue, took 3 returns to canon before it was sorted then 3 weeks later the Image stabilizer stopped working, and this is there L series lol.Took the lens back to shop and got money back.I then got a sigma 150-500mm and it worked perfect out the box and was pin sharp up to 450mm. IS seems better. So you can buy a Canon pro L lens and still get rubbish, Its the luck of the Draw i think when lens buying.
I have the sigma 120-400mm 1:4,5-5,6 APO HSM it works great on the d60. But you really need a battery pack without it you wouldn't be able to hold it properly...
Thank you for this excellent informative video. And I thought "made in japan" equals zero faults.
This is a turnoff for me because I'm getting my first dslr next week, a 450D body, and I was seriously considering the Canon version of this lens.
Would you say Tamron lenses are more reliable? Or, would you say that there will never be errors on dslr's using lenses from the same manufacturer? I want to make a quality choice but I don't want this to happen to me.
Both Sigma and Tamron make some really good lens. The optics on them are very good. I don't want to scare anyone with my experience but hopefully I was just unlucky with the one I got. Personally, if you have the money, I'd say stick with the Nikon or Canon lens. The reason I say this is because today's lens pack a lot of electronics inside for the OS and high speed motor. It's probably better integrated. For me, I wanted to save some money. I still have this lens and still using it.
I have a sigma 18-200mm OS on my canon 350D and I seem to have a little trouble with this lens, the images are not really sharp and well-focused even on AF and even when the Indicator beeps upon focusing... :(
Yes. It is normal. I have the Sigma 70-300mm DG OS lens with canon mount and use it on my canon EOS 50D camera. The lens shifts when the OS is on but there is no noise. This is normal. The image is noticeably still and there should be a difference in motion that you can notice when viewing through the viewfinder. If you experience this then your lens is fine.
the OS trys too hard to compensate for shake. Thats how it works, but it shouldn't make a squealing noise thats loud. But anyways the shifting is normal for all lenses with any kind of VR or OS or any brand. Check out my channel for a time lapse video with a d200 and the Nikon version of the 18-200 VR. Water and Mural time lapse vids taken with the 18-200 VR.
If i was you , i would sell the Sigma on & use the money towards a 2nd hand Nikon 18-200mm VR, they can be had for about £350 in the UK on Ebay, & proberly what $550 to $600 in the States.
I had a problem with a Sigma lens on my Canon 20d, I kept receiving "error 99" messages (generic term for unknown problems) at certain focal points.
Sigma were going to send the lens back to me unrepaired, because they said "they couldn't duplicate problem". But I filed a complaint with a rep and they fixed it, Sigma make really good lenses but their quality control is a bit hit & miss which can be off putting. Anyway I sold the Canon 20d and sigma lens & decided to join Nikon.

@MrFearfulAngel Every brand you chose could have problems, this is an old lens, try considering the new Sigma 18-250mm lens instead, it is my advice.

I just got this lens today
when I mounted it to my Nikon d60,
there was a hissing sound soon after I switched on the camera.
I have no problem taking pictures, just that the sound like telling me there is something wrong with the lens.
What is your comment on this problem? obviously it's not normal right?

@RubenCraninx I have same set and I have battery grip, it increases stability very much, especially when you shoot hand held.
