ok its 12:29 am, in Medford, Or right now and i was watching Mike Tyson videos and went to jack Dempsey boxing videos and then too a 1909 boxing match, then just typed in 1920 and well here I am, Im 36 yrs old, just got off work as a janitor for a medical center, and I am so grateful to live in the era i live in in the only way that there are some jobs and the money is o.k. back then u didint even know what a GangMember was well not like today, Thanks for the video I love this stuff, cute women
Thanks for this. My Grand Father, Phil McGovern was in communications and went on to become Chief of communications. He started out in Brooklyn where they lived (in Bed Stuy, where I now own a home.) When he became Chief he returned to Brooklyn and made Brooklyn Communications his headquarters. Thanks for bringing some of my family history to life.
A-MAZING!!! Now I know what a fire alarm box is. I've always wondered. Never seen them on the street like that. And the appartus is so fascinating. One of them looked like a tiller with the guy on the back. I wonder what it was called back then? A tiller? :D
Great video Doc. You do amazing work putting vids together. :)
Another big Thanks for sharing this, and I hope, other films like it. We are so fortunate when someone has the sense and ability to show our firefighting history. So much and so little have changed but it is all compelling!
You know, it was not too far from digital. The register tape indicated the fire alarm box location by holes punched in it or spaces. (on or off - 0 or 1). And the selection card used to retransmit the box number to the fire stations looked a lot like the early computer cards they used to program the first mainframe computers.
On behalf of firefighters, fire buffs & historians I would like to thank you for the generous gift that your father & grandfather left us by preserving the movies relate to firefighting. To unselfishly share them through the Stillmans Fire Colection / Perlinger Archives with the world is very commendable & allows us to actually view how things were over 80 years ago. It means a great deal to us that love the romance of firefighting. Since I cannot thank Tim & Earest, I thank them through you.
This is an EXCELLENT film! Glad you could post it! It's interesting to note that an FDNY Dispatcher appointed around 1969 used the SAME equipment used in that film at the Brooklyn C.O. from about 1969-1971! Not too much progress in 40+ years!
Outstanding Doc. 80 years later and we're watching these guys going to work. I've got nothing but admiration for the the fire fighters of yesterday and today. Thanks to you all!
