I just bought the new chess book by New In Chess called The Black Lion and I think it does go into the g4 line. The new reply to this is to go d5...weakening the g4 move.
I also believe the move order is incorrect. I should be 1.e4 d6 2.d4 Nf6 3.Nc3 Nbd7 first before d5.
I also believe you're not supposed to castle king side in the Lion. This is why the c6 move is made for the Queen and allowing the Ndb7 knight to go to f8 freeing the light squared bishop.
I also a fan of flexible system as black. I do prefer Jansens way of handling it...get white to castle kingside-dont castle-and go for kingside attack!
I like Shirov's 6.g4. I played him in a simul in 2002 which began 1. e4 d6 2. d4 Nf6 3. Nc3 Nbd7 4. f4 e5 5. Nf3 exd4 6. Qxd4 c6 7. Bc4. I don't have the rest of the moves of this game, but suffice it to say, I fought very bravely and died very quickly :-D
At 1:28, 6.O-O is a solid move but there are 2 sharp alternatives that Black has to know:
I) 6. Bxf7+ Kxf7 7. Ng5+ Kg8 8. Ne6 Qe8 9. Nxc7
II) 6. Ng5 O-O 7. Bxf7+ Rxf7 8. Ne6 Qe8 9. Nxc7
I played the Lion in high school, it is a very fun system at that level because most players under 1800 won't know how to apply pressure to Black's formation.
No, I did not, I was referring to the point 1:28 in your video. The move order is 1.e4 d6 2.d4 Nf6 3.Nc3 Nbd7 4.Nf3 e5 5.Bc4 Be7, and now your video shows 6.O-O. Sorry if I wasn't clear.
Ah, I see. I was looking only at my notes with the main line of this game. Yes, the knight invasion is an interesting line. I think I have a lecture up about that, too. Oddly, black can play carefully and come out ahead even after losing the rook. The key is b6 or b5, if I recall correctly. Thanks.
@Faugh666 Thanks!

@DorothyFan1: It depends on the situation and the player. It's very common for both sides to castle in the Lion.

You may want to read the review of the book at Chessvibes (online). The move order in this vid is correct, 3.Nbd7 allows 4.f4.
