I've been to William Cheung's Melbourne acadamy a couple of times (from interstate). If you're in Melbourne, you should drop in. Some good teachers and as always, it's probably a bit different to what you're used to. I enjoyed myself, but as i'm not that good, i did feel a bit awkward. There were some slightly different 'rules' and while they were respectful, it made me feel like a noob. :)
In the movie THE LEGEND IS BORN IP MAN, they show Ip Man went thru the SAME thing with his senior brothers after he returned from training with LEUNG BIK! when he came back & BEAT ALL HIS SENIORS! Its even in IP MANS autobiography written in Ips own writing in leung tings Master wing chun text! also in the stories of chan wah shan & DR LEUNG JANS SONS! remember HE WHO SPEAKS DOES NOT KNOW, HE WHO KNOWS DOES NOT SPEAK!!
@RespectWong , to hurt someone is not that hard to do, but to stop someone requires defeating there attitude. To do that you must create the imbalance in them.Drop your emotions of win/lose and you will stay in control of the fight. The instance the desire to do as you say shows its self thru. The instant you show your intent.Which Chi Sau is about ready where the body wants to go.Your grab is felt, your push forward to strike is felt, so the natural relaxed focused mind will find the path.
Guys, I dont know...this doesnt convice me. I mean. I will ALWAYS lose if i stick to the wing chun rules, but if just started to crank some powerfull low kicks. or just grabed his hands for a split second and punched him with all my power in the face...i dont know if it still would be that effective..dont mean to hate or anything. Explain to me how he could defend himself!
@RespectWong the moment u would use powerful attacks instead of "wing chun rules", u will be beaten with more ease than lifting a feather. if u grabbed his hand "for a split second", if he's experienced, that would be enough for him to break your hand. if u always "lose" in wing chun, that is a good thing - its an opportunity to see how to improve. it can take years to advance beyond "beginner" level. using "power" attacks will distract u & ur partner from real training, avoid it.
how comes this guy is called a 'master' no disrespect but look how is stances are wrong and all those contact lost, time waisting brawling around... for me, wing chun is no game, your opponent give energy, hes already down and you still ready in case he didnt get enough... sometime people want to fight me for fun, and than they chocked because they didnt expect me to grab their neck, kick their knees and elbow them straight in the throat, not hurt at all, but its very explosive.
@WingChunHard this is friendly... each time you see Sifu Bruce's head move, he could have just been rocked hard.. I think it ended mostly because Master Cheung showed that he could have finished the fight 50-100 times already... Very cool video.
@WingChunHard You can be judged by the person that you are training with. Both men are professionals but master Chung is showing his ability. this training is for the person to get an understanding through feeling. We are not feeling what is going on in the video. looking on from the outside can be misleading.
@macfla.. Why ask the question of whether it's effective or not if you answered it yourself!!! You learn WC then apply it yourself in real situations then type everyone on here back and let us know your results!!! I fight super fast and powerful with bone shattering results!!! IN REAL SITUATIONS!!
I study under Master John Clayton which is Willian Cheung's highest ranking student in the US.. He believes strongly in fighting with WC.. You are right it is on the person in which is doing what ever art it is to determine it's effectiveness
@CloudsBeyond Yip man taught Cheung differently which is why it appears different than what he taught everyone else. Also, its pretty obvious you have no idea what happened between Emin and William.
@macflahan go to a wing Chun school start a fight and see if it works.. Better yet bring your ass to my school and you will have a new found respect for the art!!!
@MrBigman001 I wasnt tryin to be a dick, im just a factual person i had to look into it for myself sir, I'm sorry if it appeared that way , and apologize fir being patronizing..im sorry i like 2 kno things ..next time i'll keep it 2 myself God bless
@MrBigman001 acutally it mean "skills achieved thru hard work" sir ..similar idea i had ..not totally correct in wording and yes, idea( never trust a bathroom reader :P ) ..and i guess depending on region cantonese or mandarin it could be purnounced Gong Fu..but otherwise ..it's a beautiful way to express the body as many greats have before us ..much Love N if u train continue and enjoy Life as it should be !!!
clouds beyond when you turn your back and unaware you are defenseless this being a seminar gm cheung wanted to finish it in order to take the challenge but this person attacks cheung from behind in a choke hold then tripped him to the ground after that he ran out the door like a scared r-t thats why they dont show before and the after attack... at first i was upset but later learned the kind of people in the leung ting gang had gangster mentality and that this was pure ignorance
wiliam cheung is the best in wing chun chi sao there is a story of how he went thru his seniors in chi sao practice its best to hear it from him he tells it better but the point is dont under estimate him he is very skillfull at wing chun and if not one of the best then he is the best at it
@tonytone06511 Cheung is good at what he does but people are still clearly in denial. How did Emin Boztepe a then novice in modified Wing Chun, so easily beat this great Grandmaster of the superior Traditional system/ /Yip Man's best fighter/direct student of Yip Man??? Look closely at Cheung's style compared to footage of Yip Man it is little like it at all e.g. footwork , hand positions, etc.
Who cares if William Cheung introduced Bruce Lee to Wing Chun. Its not a reason to respect him or his ability, that is just circumstantial to his life. Bruce Lee never completed the Wing Chun training anyway (well known fact).
Many ppl that dislike William Cheung do so out of superficial reasons like affiliation with a sifu or school. In person he is open and friendly.
Chi sao is only training, no matter how good or bad your partner, you can always learn. Respect all, learn from every exper
I heard a story from Sifu Bruce (The opponent in the video) that when Dana Wong came to the City Academy in Melbourne he kept asking to learn Chi Sao and Sifu Cheung said he wasn't ready to learn. Anyways, after a little more pestering Sifu William gave him a lesson, and knocked him upside the head.
Dana was the heir apparent and was being groomed to take over. I personally think Cheung doesn't teach everything. Although as Poe says in "Kung Fu Panda" hard work is the secret to kung fu.
@edenthedjguy Its great that you told this story because my sifu who was a student Dana Wong, tells me stories of how GM william cheung was so tough on his students if you didnt get the technique right he would show you the door.
@mikal250 At low levels you should go slow and work on proper technique but after awhile you can speed things up. Add kicks if you want some go so fast that they get sloppy im not great so I try to keep it slower when im just practicing. Other times when we are just having fun we will speed things up or get blindfolds on.
I'm also a disciple od master Cheung. On june sifu Didier Beddar is coming to Poland so I'm gonna go for his seminar!
Anyway, very few ppl on net know about true relations of master Cheung with Bruce Lee. This is because they don't read books. If they did know they would not underestimate him as they do now. Well to put it short he simply introduced Bruce to Wing Chun. And that's a fact. Bruce's words.
Master wong vs master Cheung !!!!!!

Its really very simple. Technique does not matter, nor does power, or experience, the fighter who can remain calm in a fight will always win.
