  • Does anyone has those notes or technicas like at 0:59? He should say the notes at least. Thanks guys.

  • how does this man could even get a way with "probably" or "may be" as a tutor.... *urhh... maybe you want to put your saxophone in an oven and it'll warm up

  • Expertvillage's next video: How to explain colors to blind people! -_-

  • Well, thank you... I wish the sound was cleaner..

  • 1121123211234321123454321123456543211234567654321123456787654321123456789987654321 play that....Its my warm up and its better than what this old man is doin

  • @luvmybluehorse are those scale degrees?

  • Yeah it's called add a note.

  • this is boring you waisted 2:22 minutes of my life thanks NOT

  • Yeah, pretty sure that I can play better than him.

  • hehe fingering technique :P

  • nice warm up but my toughing suks when i try to do eight notes! :/

  • Expert Village sucks my balls!

  • When I first learnt this really helped me, now I'm first chair and loving band!

  • i didnt learn anything watching this.!

  • Nice watch.

  • how is is that expert village always seems to find the worst people to show us stuff

  • oh!good

  • oh!good

  • I cknow there's this one exercise where you try to hit aa note an octive higher from where it's at (ex. fingering a low c then playing a middle c)

  • @flamenod That's an overtone

  • `thats what i wanted to play in band but i got put on the drumms

  • @abrown2015 y do u say that negativley percussion is amazing u prick

  • @lastmanstandingtv That may be your opinion but not everyone likes the same things. While I agree that percussion is very cool (especially that BAMFing vibraphone) it doesn't mean that he feels the same. At any rate he didn't say anything outright negative about playing percussion, only that they would rather have played the sax. It might be wiser to think before flaming people in the comments.

  • @CGrayArea u didnt catch the sarcasm in the word prick.....wow

  • @CGrayArea thanks and i am not a he i am a she lol !!!

  • @lastmanstandingtv no i just said that i wanted to play the sax but i was really good at the drums i was better than the boys in the percussion section so i got put on the drums but then i soon realize that the drumms are awesome !!!!! even better than the sax

  • @SaxMaster 1992. Well amongst my accomplishments I list, learning to write without swearing, learning English lang., how to spell, playing sax in UK USA,, Eu, & S.A. all of which you've yet to achieve. If YOU are a Saxmaster, I knocked out Rocky and Arnold Schwarznegger at the same time with each hand whilst you scratched your ass. Apart from Mr US. LOUDMOUTH of 2011 which you achieved with no contest, what have YOU done to earn immortality in the Dickhead Hall of Fame? Dazzle me!

    UK Saxist.

  • Well..His Whole-tone exercise is a bit odd.

It ain't a WHOLE -TONE but diatonic. Stndrd key Gmaj. B to C =half-tone, like F# to G. Doesn't he know whole tone scales?

    Easy. It's all whole tones.

Slight clue in name Whole Tone Scale.

Seen none of other lessons'. Do I want to?!

Beginners look for good advice. They don't know when it's not.

Huh. What do I know? I've only played in US, GB, SA & Eu.since 1959 & taught for last 15 yrs!

    Expert Village Idiot?

    saxophone@jazz99.freeserve.co.uk

  • Can someone please clear this up for me... is Expert Village a joke? Because I have seen several videos on sax, bass, and other musical instruments that were horrible. If it's supposed to be funny I don't get it.

  • @SaxMaster1992

    cool story

  • you start with air then increase the air then decrease the air

    ...then air.

    i lol'd

  • vh l;Lldk;mjtrlfdkmyjkloiuytyjuth... Sorry i fell asleep on my keyboard

  • What an idiot! That first long tone was all kinds of shitty! I think he's drunk too. Expert Village is the worst!!!!

  • i play the saxophone and im getting bored

  • sticky pads :S

  • hey you dont have to watch his vids if you think its a waste of your f**king time! he is dong it for the love of it okay!

  • OR you can get a real professional for your kids

  • know all thisss boringggggggg

  • You might be able to find people locally who will be able to teach you for free or will be willing to play with you if you don't want to play by yourself. In Australia maybe try "gumtree.com.au" or Craigslist in the USA for partners. On gumtree it is under skill swap or something like that.

  • He looks drunk.

example: 0:50 the next warm up you m.. wan... wanna try out is probably, maybe (?) fingering techniques

  • you missed a fucking note

  • wow this guy sucks and I am playing the tenor saxophone for the second year and I play way better then him

  • @Jedilosith

    Uh, actually, no you don't.

  • low notes....low notes.... low notes.

warm up + tone production + lung expansion. If you poo yourself in this warm up then you are doing the right thing and your diaphragm is working.

Start on low E and work down to Bb holding each note for as long as possible.

    dj

  • THose white buttons on mine are stiff and i cant press on them. They are like tables, i cant push them down with my fingers. PLEASE REPLY!!

  • @asswipercocmaster23 Sorry, you need to put some cork greese on it.

  • @Lily9777 Cork grease is for the cork... What the heck are you talking about....

  • Whole tones are a whole step apart, hence the name. Do you mean long tones? (@ about 2:00). Either way, that's not really what you're doing. You're playing a major scale, not a whole tone scale - and 2.) long tones are generally taught as played starting with a full reservoir of air and expending it all, while playing one note with the smoothest, evenest tone produceable.

The above is worth an edit, given that you're representing as an expert and lots of beginning students might be watching.

  • @pyannaguy Most of the people on youtube don't play the sax but comment any way lol. If you(not you specifically, but the reader) has ever played a saxophone then it would make sense. After all, it is just a warm up exercise and everyone's will be different. Some might prefer to play a song rather than do scales I guess.

Only reason I'm here is to help me re-learn some stuff, haven't played in maybe 7-8 years(I regret it). But definitely get an instructor for your first 2-3 lessons.

  • @pyannaguy Wow..A breathe of fresh air amongst the fart gas!

Delighted 2 hear what you say & IN ARTICULATE ENGLISH! Before I found yours I wrote about the scale NOT being Whole tone & oddly your point about students. You'll find it timed mins b4 this one.

Also felt the need to take a pop at Saxmaster1992, loudmouthed "know-all" as we call them in UK.

You'll find it about the same time & date, 27 feb 02.00 GMT.

Good to read you. Regards from Olde Englande

    saxophone@jazz99.freeserve.co.uk

  • Overtone exercises make the best warm-up.

  • the only reasoni am watching this is because i am going into 5th grade and it is my first year of band and i choose was the saxaphone.

  • @coltsrule231 STOP WATCHING NOW! DONT LISTEN TO HIM !!

  • You sons weird I play the sax and I sound better I haven't been playing for three months yet

  • dude, i do things like this in singing, like the first one

  • "Classical involves a lot of scales and thirds"...and jazz musicians never practice any scales...they just improvise...all the time. HAHA these things are so funny. Just take lessons from some really good musicians in your area (not from expert village) and you'll be fine.

  • @CRoseG100 for that comment you obviously don't listen to alot of jazz....

  • @saxesrus it was sarcasm sweetie!! I meant, this video implies that only classical musicians practice scales and thirds. (Even if that's not what he meant....in which case he should write out a script to make sure he does not imply false information.) When in fact, I know plenty of fantastic jazz musicians who practice and learn all types of scales and patterns. And for your information I have large collection of jazz music, I was merely pointing out that people need clearly explain themselves.

  • horrible tone quality. and his warmups are for beginners i hope because if i warmed up like that id probably get bored and just stop.

  • hey mitch you could do with a hair piece man ......finger tecks i bet u try that with your woman

  • hey mitch your mate could do with a haircut wats this with a bun on top off his head the looney

  • I agree with @DeIMkVI if your a really good add the vibrato but if your not that great DON'T ADD VIBRATO you got to train you ear just like they said.

  • thats what she said!!!

  • Justin Beiber is a better musician than him!

  • awful.

  • I been playing the alto for 3 years and in my opinion the best warm up would have to be playing the 2 Octave Chromatic Scale in Quarter or Half Notes and if ur really experienced do it in all-state. A alt choice is play the B flat, E flat, A flat, and D flat scale. remember this is my opinion its not a fact.

  • kkkkkkk

  • I just go up and down concert f blues scale and play mission impossible by memory for a warmp up. Witha little meeting at tryon palace and pirates of the carribean.

  • lol jew jazz sax

  • Hi, i'm an intermidiate saxophone player and i would like to know how to do that kind of sound(melodic), like the one in the second technique(almost reaching at g)

  • Hi, i'm an intermidiate saxophone player and i would like to know how to do that kind of sound(melodic), like the one in the second technique(almost reaching at g)

  • When the " 7 ", came out; we were all glad we didn't have one. We all had the,"6", or older. The series III is very good , too. Not too much of a fan for the early 80's.

  • I am a better saxaphone player i love been doin it4 9 years

  • Lol first thing I noticed was his embrochure was way to tight. He has some vrabrato but his over all tone is weak and kind of flat.

  • Whats important is to have a warm up routine.

Do like a ritual each time the same way. With that you are warming up your sax , your braincells, your fingers, and if you very first play a chromatic scale downwards,C#CBBbAAbG F#FE EbDDbC

Listen and if you have difficulty with any SOUND check your instrument, the"come along"levers, the G#(likes to stick sometimes.)

  • @RoGuExXxAsSaSiN

no, he's just bad. and i've been playing for over 3yrs, and i know how the sax is supposed to sound

  • suena terriblemente mal.este tio kuando hace ke toka el saxo???¡¡¡

  • or you can just find a real musician locally that knows what he/she is doing and take a lesson

  • @drew61882 this is free, most are anal and want money

  • Whole tones, my friend would go:

    C D E F# G# A# C

or Db Eb F G A B C#: , these are very essential to know. GAB CDE FGA, the first 3 notes of every scale a whol tones

  • I think he mean just whole tones and not the 6tone scale...

  • Maybe whole notes, 4 beats long?

  • Yes that :p

  • ehh, kinda raspy?

  • Proper sax recording on my channel ;)

  • i remember trying to read classical music above the top bar.

    WHAT a BITCH!!!!!

  • Thanks so much, I have written some sax solos Alto and Tenor, and Soprano even Bass Sax; and always love the air quality, it's gentle, and evocative,

  • I actually think i'm better than this guy.

  • his fingers aren't on the pads...

  • I hope not they should be on the keys

  • wow smart-ass real nice of you

  • sax rocks

  • he looks funny when he plays

  • no pueden poner un tutorial como la gente en castellano ?

  • Ok Nice fingering technique ...but why not slow it down so we can learn it lol!

  • Wow,

    You're such a sax noob.

    Its called an arpeggio.

    And its on concert F.

  • Wtf man? i only been playin sax for 5 days. Haha sheesh im self taught with no teacher so yea! Its not like im some sort of Saxophone genious.. GOSH!! lighten up! :)

  • Um, I think...yeah, this guy is definitely a pedophile.

  • Please stop! You suck at explaining anything!

  • Thankyou all for your advice. I did have a go on it one afternoon when my pensioner neighbour was taking her usual afternoon nap - she wears ear plugs, she told me later that someone was making a dreadful racket and it was a sound that almost blew her ear plugs out! : ) Just when I thought I was making progress: (

  • i really think its entertaining how this guy always sounds confused whenever he says anything.

  • I can't wait to start learning this sax, but I don't have any reeds yet. I can't wait, I can't stand it!

  • I have just bought an alto sax and want to learn how to play it. I can make a sound but now I realise how loud it is in my terrace house. I do not think the neighbours will appreciate my endeavours to learn and practice how to play it. is there any way to make it quieter whilst I play it in the house??? My husband said practice over the fields but I would probably get mugged!

  • Thnx lol made me day!

  • HAHAHAHA JUST WIT TILL U HAVE TO DO ALTISSIMO lol my parents hated the sax until it actually sounded decent

  • try to hire a room in a local school or hall for an hour or so each week. thats what i decided, for the same reason.

  • You could get a mute for your sax, or stuff a cloth in your bell. But who cares if your neighbours get annoyed? The important thing is that you are going to learn how to play the saxophone. It really is a great instrument.

  • What are the notes for the second warm up he does? I think it starts of with D(natural), F(natural), E (natural), G(natural), F(natural), A(natural)....but then I get lost.....are these even the right notes, then ones I wrote?

  • he does a 1 3 2 4 3 5 4 6 5 7 6 8 7 9 8 then down he does 8 6 7 5 6 4 5 3 4 2 3 1 2 then the lower 7, then back to the root. This is all done in D major for alto.

  • very nice sound, but can you come up with a tutorial for doing altissimo notes?, cause i already know this stuff.

  • i think you meant long tones or whole notes, right? whole tones are intervals.

  • ahhhhhhh!! i wanna play it sooo bad! my parents have me stuck on the piano tho...avoid pianos! they're of the devil! lol...jk

  • wow nice tone

  • alexmcool: TONGUE IT, DON'T BLOW LIKE A RECORDER

  • Recorders need to be tongued too! :-)

  • i know how to play saxophone it s very easy and it has got a very nice voice

  • Lol he looks constipated

  • jeez, I blow as hard as I can ,yet, I only hear a hollow sound, anfd sometimes like a super squeek, anybody know why? I assembled it nicely, the reed is a little bit chiped.

  • what do you mean hollow sound?

the squeek probably has something to do with your ombeschure (spelt that wrong)

your reed has something to do with it too, my sax used to squeek alot at the high notes before i got a vandoren 3, now it hardly ever squeeks

  • make sure the reed is moistened suck on it for a few seconds. also the reed might be 2 strong for u. c wat # it is and if its above a 2 the i advise to go down to a 2.i hav been playing tenor sax for 3 years now and if u hav further questions then just ask

  • you are blowing too hard, relax your embouchre and the air flow

  • I love the dollar method works fantastic. I remember when i first heard of it years ago i was like WTF???

  • wat is that?

  • the "dollar bill method"

when u play the sax u unavoidably blow a lot of crap from your mouth into it -_-

and the crap likes to stick onto the pads, other side of buttons

when it does the pads tends to stick of the metal and it makes sticky sounds

especially for the G# key which loves to get stuck and make u look stupid as if u missed the key signature

anyway u use a dollar bill to clean the pads

why? because the texture and ink on the dollar bill helps the crap comes out easily

  • Fingering techniques are great to develop your finger dexterity, but I recommend crossing that bridge after you have built a good solid foundation.

  • ha ha yeah I do

  • And thats a great warmup for the saxophone =). Is it a great warmup for the saxophonist aswell?

  • your not suppose to puff up your cheeks....

  • Hey i play tenor sax and i i have a size 3 reed.Just got new braces for like 3-4 weeks and when i play some notes it makes a squeaky sound. Know what the problem is? I dont know if its my braces or just spit.

  • youll get used to braces.... I have them and I play a 3 1/2 on a wider tip opening (tenor) Just make sure that you don't let the embochure get messed up while you play just because your braces hurt. It becomes natural sooner or later.

  • whe i first got my braces, i dropped down a reed size from a 3 to a 2. i also bought a new mouth piece with a smaller tip-opening. the squeaky sound is usually because you are not used to the braces. this takes time, just practice, and take your time

  • GET OUT OF TOWN!

  • He can't even play in tune.

I think he may be grade 1 standard.

  • well.. i just bought an alto.. i want to learn, and i WAS taking this guys advice, because im starting from scratch .. but now..after reading all this feedback, i dont know WHERE to turn. lol

  • go to ebay and get a book on how to play, just be careful to not buy into crap like this, so BE CAREFUL AT WHAT YOU BUY INTO!

  • @raymondo2nd It's a bit late. Your posting was 2 yrs ago. My advice: Get a teacher. Even good player ALSO needs training to teach.

A good teacher tells you what to do & in the right order. A good teacher SHOWS you how to do it.

Importantly, a good teacher can show you what NOT to do! Like "Hey. That;s a bad habit! Need to cut THAT out!" Tutor books or lessons On-line can't . You just carry on practising the same mistakes. BAD! Come to UK. I'll teach you!

  • "This is a "FREEBIE"- but what alot of people

dont know is that EXPERT VILLAGE pay these guys up to $500 a video for making Tutorials -

which means your going to get so called 'Lessons' from guys such as this who may not be QUALIFIED Professional Teachers! I

agree with (theSAXman76). This guys breathing

and airflow technique is not correct! And you

dont teach students to warm up in this fashion! Just because you can blow - it doesn't make you a teacher and this guy is definately not One"!

  • i agree, if you were wanting to learn how to play sax you would be as crappy as this guy! the best way to learn is by a high school band teacher, so learn early folks!

  • can you teach my students mitch?

  • Lower stomach?? You mean diaphragm???

  • Play it first with absolutely NO VIBRATO!!!!!

This makes sure you train your ear to play IN TUNE. When you're EXPERIENCED play the scales with different rhythms and vibrato.

  • someone tell this dude the difference between whole tones and whole notes...

  • "Fingering techniques are important because umm...err...yeahhh...er....I don't really know....."

  • It clearly seems that this guy is not a professional... He even can't hold a tone equally!!!...

  • i dont think he ever claimed to be a pro...the techniques he showed were just simple and quick...

  • Yes but its unwise to try to learn saxophone from someone who isnt a qualified professional - besides if you want to learn saxophone properly you hire a professional sax teacher not look online. This is not a way to warm up when playing his breathing and air flow technique are all wrong.

  • I get what your saying but you cant blame the guy for trying to put some freebies out there.

  • yea, he never said he was a pro

besides, hes putting vibratto on it, difficult to accidentally do, which you would know if you played the alto sax, or any saxophone, really

  • Wow! Do yourself a favor, don't listen to this guy and pay for lessons with someone who knows how to teach. This was a horrible job of explaining warm-ups.

  • Well i'm not a very skilled saxophone player, but i am able to see that he's not a pro. But then again it's free... =)

  • if your good enough to see that this guy isn't a pro then you shuld need any of those sixth grade tips. im in high school and have better tone and vibrato

  • Helpfull. ty

  • Just out of curiosity, where does Expert Village get these "leading experts"?

  • fingering techniques........

  • This guy is sick, I don't even know where to begin mastering these patterns!

My teacher says that someday I need to know all of my scales in thirds so i can play classical.

Does anyone know what the lowest note on my Eb alto sax is and how to finger it?

  • lowest note on Eb alto sax is a Bb.

to play it finger a low C then add the end key under your G# key with the pinky finger on your left hand

  • Thanks for the info, I tried it but the note comes out all high and squeaky. Do you think that I am doing something wrong?

  • Blow a bit more. Playing low notes means getting the wind from your lungs all the way down the sax.

Here's a trick. Begin from mid-range, where you are comfortable. Then continue blowing as you go down to the last note on the sax. By then it'll demand more air.

Also, a squeak isn't necessarily bad. Whether you wanted it or not, it's what you do with it that counts. :)

  • When your playing in the lower register, try lowering your jaw quite a bit. I know its been a month since this was posted, but I thought it would help.

    Just let it rip.

  • @regninolc I close all the keys, twist the horn counter clockwise, put my knee most of the way over the bell, voile. Low 'A.'

  • tit end. dull meff

  • and why did he say altoo sax? it's the ALTO like big TOE

  • I hate this man. I think he is idiot.

  • ditto

  • this
