  • lol u can get alot done in 3 hrs work

  • lol true but thats a 5 hr drive to work then work 8 hr then drive 5 hr back thats way to long lol

  • @Wolfman1974ify So will just have to work 3 hr days then plus the 5 hrs drive time, that makes 8 hrs lol

  • I live in indianapolis IN so ya we live far away from eacth other lol

  • @Wolfman1974ify It's only 5 hr awa,y whats wrong with that? lol

  • where u live the reson i asked i thinking about saving up and open up a shop not big at frist lol

  • @Wolfman1974ify I thought about it but there is alot of overhead with auto repairs, but who knows maybe one day lol But ya I live in windsor ontairo canada

  • lol its hard to keep up when ur working ur regaler job and hey i saw that other build the cheville that was awesome man u know how to get around them cars good u should make money on the side fixing people´s cars up

  • @Wolfman1974ify Thanks! Ya I do car repairs on the side but I don't restore them on the side. Now if I had my own shop then I guess I would lol

  • did u stop on 30?

  • @Wolfman1974ify Ya thats the last video thats up and like I said I should have another one up this weekend, just got to get my butt in the garage and do some work lol

  • i would add a little reducer to your primer to make it lie down better. No more than 10 % for most sytems. I always edge first a then fill otherwise i forget to edge LOL I always reduce my primer so my surfacer doesnt have to work any harder then it has too. when i say 10% i mean 10% over the actual called out value.

  • @johnsont963 Cool I'll try that, thanks for the input!

  • doesnt look bad that roughness in the primer will sand out just keep practicing with the gun before you know it painting will be a second nature for you.thanks for the vid

  • @86camaromike Hey thanks Mike! Ya I've been practicing spraying that fender with just water to get a better feel of the gun, seems to be working, but I wont really know untill I try it with some paint! Thanks for watching

  • Im going to try and ask mom if i can give you a camera because i got a few and i dont need em all

  • @brockeydoo67 Awww that is so sweet of you Brock, I really appreciate that buddy! Now I did send my letter out to Santa already but I guess you ended up getting it lol Thanks so much Brock!!!

  • @Rasd4Metta I will try to get it sent if i can

  • Looks like you have a handle on it. I always turn the pressure up a tad over what is called for as it seems like the material just flows better. One thing I noticed is when you first dumped the Lacquer thinner out of the gun you should pull the trigger and completely drain the gun before adding your Primer etc.... There will always be a little bit of thinner left in the gun after you just dump the cup.

Good luck & keep up the great work..

  • @Rarerat Thanks for the tip buddy, I will make sure I do that from now on! Thanks for watching.

  • I like this vid cause u'r actually in it. It's not just u'r voice :) <3

  • @drafeara Well don't get to use to it, I'm a little camera shy lol

  • @Rasd4Metta Make a few more with u in it & u'll get used 2 it :)

  • @drafeara You think your funny eh? lol

  • Matrix i have used its pretty good stuff

  • @wildeyednorthernboy Ya I'm really leaning on using the matrix paint, and I think I'm going to end up going base clear with a flattener! You sent me an email when I first subbed to you saying base clear is better then single stage, then Greg Porter mention it to me and then Darrin said it in one of his video's, so I got thinking, I would be a fool not to take the advice of the pro's who have been doing this alot longer then I have! So I think thats the way I'll go! Thanks for the advice Thommy!

  • well every1 has said it all so i will just watch on this 1 PEEEACE

  • @wildeyednorthernboy Ya everybody gave me some great advice, I'm really learning alot!

    Thanks for watching Thommy!

  • hi Rob, im not a paint guy, you know that lol... but i have inadvertantly painted threads before and had the grief of having to run taps down them all so the bolts go back in (like the four captive nuts on the crossmember ends) so i now just wind an old bolt in the hole, or tape them off. good going buddy, '27 minutes', almost needed a commercial break..lol.

  • @Moonfleet41 Thanks so much for the tip buddy, will do that from now on!

Maybe next time I make a long video I'll put a commercial break in the for ya so you don't have to use that stupid pause button lol

  • @Rasd4Metta Thanks Rob, a pause would be great, i would have time for a nice cup of tea...lol..

  • @Moonfleet41 You and your tea.....your killing me here! lol

  • oh yeah ...checking in

  • @Milogarage Thanks for watching Milo!

  • Oh yeah... Get some 2" tape and wrap the top of your gun so when the paint drips out of the hole in the cap it won't drip onto the part you are painting. It's just a bit of added insurance. Go to the dollar store and get 3 or 4 empty squirt bottles. You'll find a ton of uses for them. The grease and wax is one of them.

  • @gregmporter Great tips buddy, I will do that!

    Thanks for everything Greg!

  • Cool Rob, i see all the comments on your pressures. I had same problem when i started with hvlp guns. Your on your way now!

  • @tomswonderfulworld Thanks bud! Ya I thought you had to set the regulator to 8-10psi lol but I got it all figured out now, with out the help of youtube I wouldn't of even attempted to try this! I still have alot of practicing to do but I think I might get the hang of it!

    Thanks for watching Tom!

  • Wow, I can't believe how bad you screwed that up!!! nah but really, looks like you'll do just fine. I see nothing wrong with what you did. The more gun time you get the more natural it will feel and eventually the gun just becomes a part of you and you don't have to think about anything. So practice practice practice!

  • @slowsrt Thanks bud! I'm getting alot of great tips from everybody so I think the next time I will be even better at it, and for sure I will be practicing!

    Thanks for watching Matt

  • Great first time.

I had the primer running in the floor on my first panel.

  • @cecil6711 Thanks Cecil!

Well the primer I used was so thick you could of poured it on and it wouldn't of ran lol

    Thanks for watching buddy!

  • u r on your way now ,looks good, thankx for showing

  • @TheRickfix Hey thanks Rick, it really means alot coming from you bud!

    Thanks for watching!

  • nice work man but what kind of gun where u using the primer u get is the good RM is the best paint for the money matrix paint

  • @hefty88 Thank you! The gun I use is a Mac tool gun SG1300-18 HVLP with a 1.8 tip, the RM primer is pretty good stuff, when using the DTM primer you don't need apoxy or sealer, it's all in one primer, you pay alot for it, but it's worth it in my book. I'm not sure if Matrix is the best paint for the money, I've never bought paint before so it's kinda new to me, but Darrin and some of the other guys seem to really like it!

  • @hefty88 at my shop we used RM and matrix sometimes ppg .. me i used matrix and house of kolor n kustom shop paint alot but yeah man the primer looks good nice work

  • @hefty88 Thats cool, have you guys tried that DTM primer before? I'm actualy looking into the Matrix paint right now, I was going to go single stage but I might just go with base clear with a flattener!

I had alot of orange peel in the primer, but I think that was from my pressure to low, but I think I got it all figured out now with everbodies helpfull tips!

  • I find it easier to use a Windex bottle to spray the Wax/grease remover. The cap pressure cannot be measured. Set the gun at 23-28 psi. Set this with the trigger pressed. Line pressure should be higher than gun pressure. (I set mine to 90) When setting fluid tip shoot it on your test sheet with desired fan pattern for 1-2 seconds without moving gun. Make sure you do not get a run. If you do, adjust fluid tip again. After this setting do a test pass to see the sprayout and fine tune as desired.

  • @talon4wd Awsome tips Steve, I will pick up a windex bottle and use that from now on. I thought I was doing something wrong with the pressure, but it makes perfect sence now, I might block sand the fender and maybe retry this again with all these great tips!

What about the orange peel? Was that because my pressure was to low?

    Thank you for the info!

  • @Rasd4Metta Yes. When you spray at higher pressures the paint is atomized better (splits into smaller droplets) and that reduces orange peel. Fluid flow also plays a part. But for primer its ok for a little orange pel because you are going to block it down smooth anyway before paint. Personally I have sprayed at 30psi just to limit orange peel out of my gun. Every gun is different so playing with the pressure and fluid needle is where you will see the difference for ur particular gun.

  • @talon4wd Good to know, I will play around with that and see how it goes, I do have alot of little parts to prime so maybe that will give a little more spray time with the gun untill I get some paint! Then I can practice with the differant pressures with the paint untill I get it just right!

    Thanks again Steve!

  • Good to see more people doing paint or at least experimenting with it...I'm sure you'll work it out as will I when it's my turn to try it.

  • @ziggassedup Well I'm sure when you start you'll have all the youtube guys helping you out with it! Maybe I'll even get good enough to give you a tip or two lol

    Thanks for watching!

  • Darrin's technique of washing the gun works best, for me.Your gun regulator is set while the trigger is pulled.8-10 psi at the cap is provided by the gun itself,by setting it at the gun-reg at maybe 25 psi, while the trigger is pulled ,always.Be sure to shoot at about 6 inch from the panel consistently.those are just my opinions,as i'm not a one,go with the pros tips.Awesome job for your first time Man!!!Clean set up !!

  • @bethoveen3 Wow I did not know that the trigger had to be pulled while setting the regulator. Ya I tried to hold it steady but it was little harder then it looks lol but I'll keep practicing and hopefully I'll get better at it!

Thank you for your tips on this and thanks for watching!

  • good stuff looks good

  • @vwdarrin Well I hope I get the Darrin seal of approval on spraying lol Thanks for watching Darrin!!!

  • that was awesome! when painting vertically, turn the air cap to the 12 and 6 o'clock position. keep the gun straight up and down like you did on the vertical pass and there will be no chance of spillage out of the top of the gun.

  • @noax2grind Vary cool tip. Thanks you for watching and sharing your info

  • You should be using the same type of reducer for finish cleanup as u do for reducing so a little in the cup can't hurt anything, but wiping with a rag can very easily leave contaminants in the cup, just a thought. Doing a real nice job, keep up the great work. Olddude

  • @Thisoldcar Thank you for the tips I will be sure to used them! Thanks for watching!
