I have a 15" PowerBook G4 which is a bit slower than that but I use it for things that nobody buying a netbook would do, video editing with Final Cut Express and After Effects CS3 and Photoshop CS3 for photo editing. If my laptop has served me and my needs for more than 3 years, why upgrade? I am a student and can't afford to upgrade, that's the reason I bought used!
I just bought the 12" iBook G4 1.2Ghz for my daughter who is going to start college, and is studying photography - she has a Canon Rebel XT that she pairs with the iBook which even at 6.5 years is a very capable laptop, and looks like a brand new product.
If the iBook G4 can keep an 18 year old photography student happy, then it will definitely stand up against (and easily out perform) any new netbook computer!
I paid $178 + 30 S&H for the iBook G4, which was user refurbished, and scratch free
UPDATE: i bought the ibook on craiglist from a high school selling of there old equipment, the laptop was ibook was used maybee once or twice, i used it for my digital media class with Final cut express 4 and adobe photoshop, handled them both real well, then i sold the ibook on craigslist and made money on it bc it was so clean, not a scratch on it, as for the eeepc my brother fell asleep listing to music, rolled over on it and crushed it.... still sold it for $100 thought!
wow i didnt expect this much attention on this vid! wow, i wish i still had these computers, i would make a much better one, i just made this bc i was bored!
difference in load speeds are very minimal which is impressive considering the DDR2 memory on the EEE. i think the ibook has a 4200RPM hard drive too which doesn't help.
who gives a fuck about which has a faster hard drive or control over software?????? hes just showing which boots up faster and shuts down faster
it doesnt matter because whos gonna think when its booting up "man i should have got an Eee PC cause MAC doesnt have control over the hardware and software" bullshit it doesnt matter if its wrong in your mind to compare them..
@austio951 Agreed upgrade the RAM to 1.5GB (1.0GB + 512MB on board), and Hitachi makes a 320GB IDE travelstar 7200RPM hard drive that will give you a very good storage and performance upgrade, while being a very energy efficient and cool running hard drive (both very important considerations - especially for older laptops)
I am running Leopard 10.5.8 with this configuration, and this zippy little 6.5 year old laptop holds it's own against ANY entry level current day laptop ....
yah i like the ibook more, but i like the eepc for its size, but its almost impossible to type with, the new ones are ok, but i still like the mac better, but dont get me wrong, i build gaming pc's too, and i love pc as well
it's so wrong to compare a mac with a pc cause apple have control over both the hardware and software on a mac. it's not like that in a pc the manufacturer only have control over the hardware while Microsoft have control over the software.
@Fantasticboy200 i'm not really sure what your trying to say, and i have nothing against mac, infact i have one, but microsoft owns over 85% of the market
@Fantasticboy200 Not necessarily - manufacturers don't HAVE to preload Windows on their machines. Some offer machines running Linux. (I think a few companies offered FreeDOS at one point, although this could just be me imagining things tonight... which I don't doubt.
Windows is just the most prevalent OS, and most people are more familiar with it than other operating systems.

I own both now. Believe me, eeePC with XP is nowhere near the speed of normal desktop usage for my iBook.

It's so right to compare a 4 year old iBook with a modern net book! The iBook internal slow bus doesn't seem to have much of a negative effect!!!

@capnwipe No. Plus you get a crappy laptop with crappy hardware on both. Get new laptops.

eeePc definitely has a horrible keyboard. But I prefer the Acer Aspire One 11.6 size over anything with Macintosh on it.
