  • I'm too young to know what this about I was born 9-10 yrs after.

  • i just discovered this for the first time

    wth?

  • Never realised there was a pilot addition.

  • Could you imagine Jaleel White at Bayside with Zack and them? More like the cooler version than the nerdy version

  • this was only on tv once

  • OMG THAT KID IN THE FRONT ROW IN THE LAST SEAT TO THE RIGHT!!!! Hes that guy i dont know the name of but he had his own show! ahhh what was it?????

  • @Hi88378 LOL. His name is Jaleel White. aka. The famous "Urkel" ! from the hit 80's-90's show "Family Matters" (:

  • haha the theme reminds me of something like family ties lol

  • Different characters, same bad writing.

  • Everybody commenting on the theme song being whack know dogg on well they would've been singing along if the show would've been big...like it or not you would've found yourself singing it

  • @jayper86 lmao at ur comment...nice connection

  • eat my ass miss bliss

  • Isn't that little suck up.yuppie child Brian Austin Green from 90210?

  • Wow this is old....she said the Colts were the pits...LOL! And Urkel was once a token black child in an intergrated school.

  • What's unfortunate from my perspective is how smart the producers were here. No kid wants to come home and watch a show built around a teacher. As great as Hayley Mills is, her problem is that she played a character that was taken seriously. What made SBTB work was that it was about angsty teens dealing with unsympathetic, idiotic adults. Mills didn't fit that formula because kids don't want to see authority figures shown in a positive light.

  • @surfer53 The wide success of Welcome Back Kotter kind of shoots your theory down. The show was built around the premise of a teacher and his students Kotter was never made to look like a idiot and instead was portrayed as an integral part of his students lives.

"Head Of The Class" from around the same period as GMMB followed the same formula and was also a popular show in it's day. The ineffectiveness of GMMB lies not in Mills' character but the underdevelopment of her students.

  • URKEL!!! I saw him roll his eyes when he looked at Miss Bliss and i screamed at my laptop, "OH MY GOD ITS URKEL!" XD This show is SOOO much better than Saved By The Bell.. How on God's earth did it ever turn into _that_? I mean honestly.... *Shutters*

  • @Aussiegirl956 The interesting thing is that if the show remained with Disney who picked it up after NBC initially dropped it, we may have never gotten Saved By The Bell. In 1987 GMMB was perfect fare for Disney which was decades away from the "smart aleck teens outwit stupid adults" formula that dominates the genre today.

It's possible that the Saved By The Bell concept would've never flown at Disney in the 80s and was only made possible when NBC reacquired the rights in 89.

  • Urkel!

  • now i see why Steve Urkel wore glasses...seriously he looks like his rodney dangerfield's kid.

i guess he had to grow into his eyes...

  • Wow a different Mr. Belding.

  • They revamped the storyline because they knew this series wasn't going to last and that's why they changed the location of the city and changed the focus to the students.

  • Steve Urkel!

  • damn my childhood seemed like yesterday

  • Is that Mercedes McNab at 01:51 ? There's no info about her role in this pilot, not even in wikipedia haha but this girl totally looks like her.

  • omg i remeber this i rember seeing this the night that it aired but i l went to watch the next episode it was gone and at the time i did not understand why and i did not know that nbc changed this to saved by the bell until they mention that they did on the e true hollywood story

  • I preffered this to "Saved by the bell"

  • Funny how the video was damaged when Urkel spoke. Expected him to say, "Did I do that?"

  • does anybody notice that Jaleel White from Family Matters is in this episode

  • It's hard to believe that Saved By the Bell grew out of this.

  • I still can't believe Johnathan Brandis killed himself adn I had no idea he appeared in this show. This show was renamed Saved by the Bell and then they made Saved by the Bell: The New Class.

  • It's odd that they made this pilot episode with a completely different bunch of students than appeared in any of the other episodes.

  • holy cheese balls is that little black boy URKEL?!?!?!?! :O

  • @16dasies yes thats him!

  • Hayley Mills was the producers' first choice for the remake of "Lolita!" That would have been pretty good, I think. After the Disney stuff to go on and do Lolita would be quite a bold move. She talks about it in interviews occasionally. She says sometimes she's sorry she didn't do it. How crazy would that have been? It'd be like that sweet innocent Lindsay Lohan girl getting into trouble. Can you imagine? Perish the thought.

  • oh look it's Jaleel White he kind of looks the same from the face only now he's older and taller

  • the worst theme song ever!

  • 1 kids last name is winslow...another kid becomes steve urkel...coincidence? or some1 saw this and made da family matters sitcom?

  • This theme song is actually painful to listen to.

  • @bigcrunch1971 WHY It painful to listen 2 ??

  • Wikipedia say tha Saved by the Bell was a retooled verison of this show?

  • Yes, but you definitely can't tell from the pilot. This is the first time I personally have seen this version, but this series is often shown packaged with Saved by the Bell reruns, with an intro by Mark-Paul Gosselaar (as Zack) explaining something along the lines of "another episode from the junior high days"; as well as a completely different set of opening credits that suggests that the show was actually Saved by the Bell all along.

  • @COMPFUNK2 Speaking of that, it's also hard to tell this is based on Saved by the Bell because none of the other cast members from this pilot are in the rest of the episodes (not to mention Mr. Belding's first name here is Gerald, whereas in later episodes his first name is Richard).

  • @LIVANDLETTROLL

Correct. Things changed once Disney dropped this show and NBC picked them up.

  • @bigcrunch1971 The theme song isn't the best and certainly dated which can obviously be chalked up to the age of the show. But the opening montage is great. How they took all these photographs of Hayley Mills and created sketches from them. The montage is pretty cool given that Mills was essentially one of the first child stars that audiences got a chance to watch grow up onscreen.

  • @bigcrunch1971 ROFL

  • @bigcrunch1971 Yeah, I agree--it's a bit too "after school special" for my liking.

  • 04:03 That's Steve Urkle and the blond hair kid is the from Steven Kings "IT"

its so weird seeing a prelude to Saved by the Bell its nice

    lol they replaced Mr Belding

  • 04:03 That's Steve Urkle and the blond hair kid is the by from Steven Kings "IT"

its so weird seeing a prelude to Saved by the Bell its nice

  • Thats not fair, I NEEDED 2 wear a bra in 4th grade

  • This would have made a great show....but then we might not have had SBTB and that makes me sad..

  • "Does it have to be a real person or can it be one of the kids on the Cosby Show?"

    Is that Mindy Cohn?

    "Is Vanna White real?"

    Is that Jaleel White?!

  • i cant believe Jaleel White in on here

  • fuck yall niggaz hope yall die a slow death!!!!!

  • where is zack and screech and lisa??

  • @texasboy8522 Maybe if you read the description, you would know.

  • 4:02 Ha Jaleel White pre-Urkel lol

  • aww,Jon Brandis <3 rip

  • the most stupid opening song for a sitcom

  • Thumbs up if you recognize Steve Urkel.

  • Jon Brandis & Brian Austin Green make a guest appearence on Saved by the bell college years on the Thanksgiving show. Whoa....wierd coincidence

  • She looks so hot @ 0:41!

I'm assuming this was the original 1987 broadcast from the "NBC in stereo" logo at the bottom in the beginning. Do you happen to have the commercials that aired with it?

The original Belding was a dick! Omg.

    Directed by Peter Bonerz! Rotfl.

  • where the fuck is Zach

  • wow its hard to imagine some of these characters eventually being on saved by the bell, no zack, screech, lisa and some stupid guy playing mr belding

  • @tosspot86 zach screech and lisa are in this init? just kelly and jessie is not

  • @SKEEMSSS nope none of the main cast are in this and the only person of any fame that i know of (excluding hayley mills) is brian austin green of 90210 fame

  • @tosspot86 lisa screech and zach are in this, trust me, just no jessie and kelly, there not in this episode but they wer in good morning good bliss,iv seen them in it, they look mad young, check wikipedia

  • @SKEEMSSS yes they are in the rest of the series just not in this episode thats what i meant, looking at what i said now i can understand why you got confused i didnt specify they werent in this episode, my bad

  • 4:35 OMG its johnathan brandis ( spelling) he was in "never ending story" and other movies! poor guy killed himself mid 30s though and no one knows why :( how sad

  • That looks like Steve Urkel at 4:00

  • @gooeyday It is

  • @gooeyday that is urkel isnt it?

  • indianapolis is not this boring

  • reminds me of boymeets world.........!!!

  • Where were Mylo the janitor and Screech? I bet that they were getting busy in the janitor's closet where Mylo was giving it to Screech! Zoinks!

  • "I just got married and I'm gonna be a widow" ~ In the next episode Miss Bliss has been a widow for 3 years.

  • 3 simple letters: WTF

  • Where is Zack?

  • jaleel white, brian autstin green and jonathan brandis all on the original saved by the bell, this is messin with my mind man

  • @chozinwun816 not only ures man wtf? jesussss this is insaneeeeeeeeeeeeeee

  • This has ULTRA-RARE written all over!!!

  • I barely remember this intro. I remember that back in the summer of 87 we went to pick up my aunt and my cousins from Colorado. we stayed on in a hotel and my aunt was all about seeing this show. I don't know how she knew about it. did they have a bunch of previews or trailers before hand? I can't really remember myself because I was only 7 going on 8.

  • 4:13, hey that's urkel

  • that's urk-kell! It's french!!!!!!

  • Brian Austin Green, Jaleel White, Jonathan Brandeis (RIP)

  • brian and jonathan would later show up on saved by the bell college years.

  • @parkerman6

was just totally thinking that! :)

  • 04:59

i know it was 1987 but man this statement sounds so weird now that the colts are a powerhouse every year lol.

  • I agree the artwork during the opening credits is amazing. For those of you who don't know Michael Thompson is played by the late Jon Brandis.

Honestly you could make the argument that with Brandis, Greene and White the original cast featured here consisted of far more talented young actors than any of the eventual cast of SBTB.

  • And Riverside. He was part of this pilot too.

  • @jldraw as much as love how saved by the bell turned out, i would have to agree

  • @jldraw

Agreed. I like the kids in the pilot better.

  • Wow look at Steve Urkel, i didn't know he played in the pilot..!!!

  • The artwork in the opening credits is quite incredible. It looks like they used old pictures of Hayley Mills as reference.

It's hard to believe this morphed into Saved By The Bell (and without Hayley!)

  • @Aeolis7

I know. This is soooo radically different from SbtB it's almost impossible to believe this is so strongly connected. One of those truly weird anomalies in television
