Lolz and God knows all of those stars by name but he chooses to put us here on earth and IF he made other intelligent life forms did he send Jesus there to? Food for thought
This did blow my mind. I spent all last night thinking about the dot and how small that dot is in comparison to what I thought the universe size was....this made me realize that the size I had deep down in my mind was/is nothing. That dot is so small in the universe that it isn't even a grain of sand and yet that dot represents billions of stars and planets. How can we comprehend the size of the universe? We are so insignificant and yet so full of beliefs in ourselves....man I was humble.
Ok thats it this is the last one....its 4:20 in the morning, and its Sunday so its not like I have to get up, but sleeping past noon is not conducive to getting to bed at a decent time tonight.
Now go ahead and try to calculate the percentage of space a single grain of sand occupies in the entire universe... As you are attempting to calculate this, you may cry if you so wish.
I often have very bad existential crises, and I was scared that this video would cause problems. But it actually helped because of the end. Thanks, Hank!
Here is a song i learned in year 8. The sun is a mass of incandescant gas a gigantic nuclear furnace where hydrogen is built into helium at a temperature of millions of degrees the sun is hot the sun is not a place where we could live without the sun there'd be no life without the light it gives!:)
My reaction to this knowledge is this: God is an amazing Creator! The vastness of our universe is incredible. This universe was created by the LORD God and it's amazing that He chooses to love us, though we are such miniscule parts of this world.
@progloriadei I would appreciate it if you were more respectful of what other people believe in. I do not believe in God and I am not trying to yell at you, I'm just asking that if next time, can you not write down like its a definite fact that "this universe was created by the LORD God"? Thanks.
@iamacatspy I'm sorry that you feel that's disrespectful. It is my belief and I certainly accept your right to hold your own belief. I am not trying to force anyone else to share my belief against their will. All I said was that the aforementioned statement was my response.
I've been shown the Hubble ultra deep field video so many times in Physics class over the last two years, and to be honest I think my physics teacher just enjoys watching our minds be re-blown. I'm one of those people who at first become quite depressed and feel insignificant, but then become optimistic and more and more obsessed with all the possibilities of everything.
I saw a program about the universe the other day that proposed that there may be more than one universe, maybe existing side by side, or maybe existing in the same plane at the same time, just off phase of one another (carrier frequency may have to do with string vibration). Physicists think that the universes can bump into one another and the lesion created may be a wormhole. And, infinite alternate universes may simply be time choice branches from a common beginning. Insignificanter, anyone?
@northerndarklight7 This information is something amazing, but how can people truly see it's significance when they have no idea how small our "gigantic" sun is. Watch the Extreme Stars episode of How the Universe Works. It will blow your mind.
I read about it last year and I've got to admit, I got scared. For a moment I felt what I was in relation to the rest of the universe. I felt insignificant, and as scared as I was, I also felt amazed.
It was mind blowing to see that image just keep zooming and zooming and zooming in until it couldn't anymore and we were STILL staring at galaxies possibly larger than our own. THAT blew my mind.
I feel like I'm standing on the shoulders of a very tall tower of brilliant, incredibly hard working ancestors, each and everyone of them paving the way for the discoveries of their successors. The curiosity, the chilling passion, of all those scientists, the ones which have been working, each in their own time, collectively for thousands of years, would have sold their souls for the information that is now easily available to me. Now I stand, and wonder at our progress. How are we so lucky!?!?
That's so incredible. We learned about this in my Geology class, and I almost cried in the middle of this forum because of the incredible-ness and the vastness of the universe! It still blows my mind.

Just that he had been given the presidency of the holocaust memorial council in 2010. I have my own machine I have been testing thoroughly. I built it, I still dont know shit, but it works! The president of terawatt is an original Obama finance team member, the chiefs of security, PR (or lack thereof), and many others are former high ranking CIA and FBI, chosen specifically to keep secret.

This makes me think of the vortex. This concept was supposed to drive a man with two heads and three arms insane, and it had something to do with frog stars. Does anyone at all know what I’m talking about? If you don’t you cannot consider yourself a sci-fi lover until you have read The Hitch Hiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, a trilogy in four parts. It is the mother of all relatively recent sci-fi series. :)
@TripleDomo13 No, if you look at the top left hand corner you can see the tarderus (Spelled wrong lol) but it will take another 10 thousand years for the screen resolution to improve enough to see it
You know those near invisibly distant galaxies that are so far away we thought they were nothing? We should talk to someone who lives in one of those galaxies and ask them what they can see from there!
P.S. if we think we can see 0.5% of the universe, we're doing it wrong. We can't know how much there is that we can't see.
Um........The Chinese calculated the size of the earth and did a fairly acurate map in.......oh god I can't remember when but it was before Genghis Khan, which was like hundreds of years before Columbus sailed
(I'd get you a date but it's in my notebook from history from last year and I feel like if I google chinese and maps all I am going to get is maps of china)
I wonder if there has ever been a big bang in which there was one solar system with massive, life-supporting planets and one massive sun. It would probably be impossible for the atoms and molecules to join up like that, but still. I think it would be cool.
it's amazes me seeing things like this that still, even knowing that we are so minescule and tiney tiny whiny, we still have this idea that all our facts are in fact facts. i mean there could be something out there, something completely mind blowing within all those galaxies that just looks at our thousands of years of research and just basically completely anialate the factuality of anything and everything we beleive in. i mean, we could the neucleus of a bacteria on some dogs butt! who knows.
@AL3K00 John Green is Han Green's brother. They do these videos back and fourth. yeah, see the videos on the side of your screen. yeah, the guy with brown hair is John, you should watch some of his videos too.
@Steampunk89 John Green is Han Green's brother. They do these videos back and fourth. yeah, see the videos on the side of your screen. yeah, the guy with brown hair is John, you should watch some of his videos too.
sometimes i think you speed up your videos to fit them in under time. mostly when you talk as fast as you did in the beginning of this video. goodness.
Hears something to think about if we find life in the universe somewhat near earth then there is an abundance of life there. but if we do not find life near earth then most likely we will not find any, there will still be life but because it will take us so long to get anywhere even at the speed of light that by the time we get there they will probably have wiped themselves out. so we need a faster way to travel the universe start working on those warp gates people sorry for misspellings :(
He did know it wasn't India he just only told Spain's Royalty so that he could get all of his money and still get a crew you tell 50 men we are going some where but we don' know were and not have a up rising and he landed on the island of what he called Hispaniola (second Spain) now Haiti and the Dominican Republic
Columbus still didn't know North America was there. He landed in what is now The West Indies. He still thought it was india, though, and that's why they're called The West Indies.
There's no way we are the only life in the universe. In fact I believe there is no way there isn't an ABUNDANCE of unique life in the universe that we could not imagine because they exist in a form we can't comprehend, beyond our means of scientific understanding. And in all likelihood, they feel the same way and would be very very awesome.
I honestly thought that would end differently, and that my mind couldn't be "blown" about space any more. But, I was wrong. My mind has been blown! Now, I'm really interested in finding out what else I don't know about space!
@slyrachet101 wouldn't it? Think about this, take a flashlight and look right into it. Then take it three blocks away and try to distinguish it's light from your home, how's that working? If your theory would be true it would mean that a "black spot" will still be a "black spot" no matter how long you live the shutter open. And to prove me right, if you live a shutter pointing at the sky open for a really long time turns out you will eventually get an almost white sky
nature has proved us with every ocasion that it doesn't waste anything on any process unless it's needed (even more, critical) so tell me now: Why the f**k would it create such infinite space filled up with matter? How ignorant would you have to be to assume that (even statistically) we're the only "humans" in this infinite universe? Excuse my poor english but I think you got the point, have a happy evening!

@1zalex1 not impossible, it's part of the multiverse theory.

I wonder if there has ever been a big bang in which there was one solar system with massive, life-supporting planets and one massive sun. It would probably be impossible for the atoms and molecules to join up like that, but still. I think it would be cool.

it's amazes me seeing things like this that still, even knowing that we are so minescule and tiney tiny whiny, we still have this idea that all our facts are in fact facts. i mean there could be something out there, something completely mind blowing within all those galaxies that just looks at our thousands of years of research and just basically completely anialate the factuality of anything and everything we beleive in. i mean, we could the neucleus of a bacteria on some dogs butt! who knows.

ChanceX666 6 months ago
