  • He's got a collar and tie on but he's naked.

  • @inkmagnet

Now you got me thinking in directions I don't like!

Still, they are basically 3D cartoons, so maybe that's how they get away with it, oh well.

  • It must have been taken down, but a short time ago there was a video of Bob singing "Five Fingers on My Left Hand" to the same tune as this song here on YouTube. I did not know that alternate version of the song existed until I saw it posted on this site.

  • Sesame is soo old its been on since 1950 (When my grandmother was born)

  • @RobloxKegan It premiered in November of 1969. Were you just teasing?

  • @JasonSesame

    No

  • @RobloxKegan

Wrong church but right pew? bet your grandma told you about stuff just as good, stuff that should have been (and maybe in the first season was) on those first golden seasons.

  • I had this song in a book when I was little

  • this is one of the oldest songs from seseme streert

  • I've known this song all my life, and now I have come full circle, there is a sister and two brothers, and a mother and the pop, (that's me)......I think I was set up with subliminal messages, thanks a lot SS

  • Muppet performers in this song:

    Fat Blue Father: Jim Henson

    Pumpkin Mother: Lorretta Long

Green Brother: Bob McGrath (Caroll Spinney in the album version)

Purple Brother: Frank Oz (Bob McGrath in the album version)

Reddish Magenta Sister: Caroll Spinney (Frank Oz in the album version)

  • @Clamanath Listening to the album, I was able to recognize the voices of Jim Henson as the father, Frank Oz as the sister (voicing her similar to Miss Piggy), and Caroll Spinney as one of the brothers. But I was unable to place the voice of the mother and the other brother. Thank you for listing them all.

  • @JasonSesame You're welcome.

  • @JasonSesame The Album Version

    Father: Jim Henson

    Mother: Loretta Long

Brothers: Bob McGrath and Carrol Spinney

    Sister: Frank Oz

    Hope that Helps

  • @Froghan417 Yes, that does help. Thanks a lot!

  • @JasonSesame You're Welcome :)

  • @Clamanath righty-o,btw these are the same muppets from "Consider Yourself"

  • Hey - I saw this when it was NEW!!!

  • Apparently one reason this segment was pulled was because children thought ALL families had 5 members and thought something was wrong if there were more or less.

  • @whewfan If that's the case, then they could've kept the segment if they showed another segment that taught about different types of family structures like the film where that girl sings about her, her sibling and her mother. That's only three.

  • I like how the dad was wearing a hat, collar, and tie, but no shirt. It must be casual day at his office.

  • My favorite number! 5 FIIIIVEEEEE!!!!!! ;Op

  • To me they look crazy

  • I think that the Pop is fat blue

  • I used to love this as a kid... but, what's up with the kid with the green head?!? He looks like an alien from the X-files.

  • When I was a kid I thought he sang "there's not one of them I'd ever SWAT".

  • I agree with you, jonnytbirdzback. This should've been on the 1st Old School collection. Why, oh why, didn't they do that??

Including myself, I've got 4 people in my family, just one short of this cute bunch!

  • Well, they couldn't do everything, now could they.

When I saw this as a kid, I remember not liking the note the sister sang "five" on. I have no idea why. I guess I was just a weird youngster.

  • Comment removed

  • There's the alien from "Everyone likes ice cream" again! *lol*

  • Holy shoot! This was tattooed in my brain when I was 3ish!

  • I had the monsters record when I was little and the song was 5 monsters in my family.

  • I use to sing this song all the time. Sesame Street was a no miss to me back when I was a "weed hopper". The best teachers around after mom and pop. Keep Keepin On....Sesame Street Forever.,,,,,and Ever and Ever and Ever and Ever. you know the rest...nighty night world.

  • Ready to upload a Sesame Street song "Beep" by two Anything Muppets?

  • I was waiting for this to be posted. I know it's going to be funny one thanks to all that beeping.

  • THANK YOU! I loved this song as a child because I had 5 people in my family too. The fact that it was "a sister, and two brothers, and a mother and a pop," reinforced my center of the world thinking.

    Alas, I grew up. Reality.

But thanks for the touchstone moment. Yes, this was sadly left off of the 1st Classic collection.

  • Unbelievable. I have not ssen this in thirty years. I have 5 people in my family too. Me, my two brothersa and our mom and dad.

  • I always sing this to my kids. I have two boys and a girl, together with my wife and a Pop (that's me!)

  • It looks like Lefty is also in this guy's family.

Is this Fat Blue, or is it just another Anything muppet?

  • We actually had 5 people in my family, and I was the first kid to be Sesame Street age--we were both "born" the same time (me in late '68, the show in early '69). The whole family loved this number! Also check out "has anybody seen my dog?"

  • @Badger31201: Actually, Sesame Street came out in late '69, in November. ;-)

  • I had a book that went with this song. Every time I read it, the tune ran through my head.

  • I had a book too. It was shaped, and If you flipped it over, it had the "five monsters" version. Another comment said something about the 5 monsters being from the 90s, but at least in book version it was around at least from the 70s.

  • This beats the heck out of the "Five Monsters" remake they did in the 90s; I agree that Sesame Workshop should have put this version on the Old School DVD.

  • I didn't know they showed this as five monsters in the nineties. I did have a Sesame Street monsters tape as a kid which had this as "Five Monsters in My Family", and I heard that before I heard this.

  • I agree. This is one of the best SS segments; simple, but catchy. And despite how odd the Muppets look compared to those today, this continued to be aired until the early 1990s.

  • You're right about the early 90s part. I actaully remembered seeing this when I was a kid since I was born in 89.
