It sounds very strange for a romantic work to be played with mostly baroque instruments and for this particular movement, the tempo seems rather slow.
@contrerados They're not using baroque instruments at all. The strings are using modern reverse curve bows, but gut strings, the woodwinds have lots of keys, but not as many as modern instruments, and the brasses are more or less valveless. I think this is a reasonable approximation of an orchestra that Mendelssohn might have conducted in the 1840s. And the sound is exquisite!
