  • you definitely have the savant "face" down. thanks for sharing your gift john :) take care and practice your powers well

  • My god, you rock man. It's incredible how you do those bass / snare parradiddles. Keep drumming!

  • Comment removed

  • it's ok but ya nothing impressive actually

  • haha, thanks man.

  • @johneeeee Hey man I can't wait to see a video of you, fully mic'ed in your new studio! In the meantime, I'll go check the new video you just posted

    KEEP ON ROCKING!!!!!!

  • @johneeeee Woah! Hey it's one heck of a deal! I'm happy for you because you'Re too talented to play on mediocre kits but we cannot call this kit you just bought mediocre anymore!

  • You are extremely talented but you need a bigger drum set to further express your talent and develop it to it's fullest!

  • YOUR A GREAT ONE>>>>>>>>>>START TOURING!!!!!

  • @SteinwayMan13 Wow!!! Thanks so much!!!!

  • @N6aT6aS6 You fucking idiot. He is blind and autistic.

  • to all the critics my question is this: who the fuck among you can play as well? there are plenty of times to be critical, if some assholes making millions with a generic sound then go ahead. This is just some guy posting his stuff on youtube, unless you're better than him in every respect u have no right criticize

  • So because these people can't play drums that means that this autistic kid is good? Does that make sense to you?

  • no it just means they dont have the right to criticize

  • Does that make sense? By that logic only directors can criticize films.

  • @acehead0987 - everyone has a right to criticise. Art critics aren't usually artists themselves but do have artistic sensibilities, knowledge and opinions. Same with the genres of literature and music. Expressing an opinion is allowed in the free world whether you like it or not. Anyone who posts on youtube exposes themselves to criticism, constructive or otherwise, although many posters probably just want attention and hopefully, praise.

  • savant? if you really are a savant then your sure as hell a bad one

  • is he really a drum savant? if so thats so awsome! i've never seen or heard of one before, theyre usually pianists. he does sound different from most

  • I hear he is thinking and executing complexity. We ought to have a band - for similar reason.

  • so when do u wanna jam? u inspire me most definately....

  • Did you guys ever see a savant autistic person showing of their skills on their own like that on youtube? I don't think that guy is a savant like he said (still, i might be wrong), but he is still good.

  • I think we are seeing a savant doing his thing. It no different from a mathematical savant doing his thing. I think that it's impossible for most of us to perceive the level of skill in his playing, just as it would be for most of us to perceive a mathematical savants abilities with numbers, if the numbers were written on a piece of paper. What do a bunch of numbers on a piece of paper mean? It's the same thing here, except the manifestation of talent is auditory.

  • hey leave him alone!! he is great. autistic people do have talents too you know.. just like anyone else. p.s. YOU ROCK JOHN!

  • don't really care whether ur a savant or not, but u play the drums well. lols i admire ur skills

  • he does not appear to be autistic

  • superbeastie - not everyone SEEMS autistic. My best friend's brother doesn't seem autistic at all until he speaks. But he's extremely talented with art (drawing/sketching..etc).

  • hehe... what the fuck

  • boring as hell to listen to? you mean you bore yourself because YOU cant listen to him?

    i think thats your RETARDATION

this guys amazing. nice swings and jamz man. got it all in ya head.

  • you guys are dicks,

this guy is a real savant,

    i've seen him before,

hope you all feel real great about yourselves now.

  • Leave him alone guys his disabilty is to reproduce. Reproduction is his retardation. LOL jk....

  • This is a continuation from comment below....

"I thought technically he was very proficient, good limb independence etc. Boring as hell to listen to but he sure could play the drums and not suck ass as frstylsccr11 puts it."

  • "Interesting. First off, all those negative comments are clearly from people who are jealous and perhaps perceive him to be arrogant. If I assume that he is genuinely autistic, then I can understand his arrogance as he believes he really is better than most other people. If he isnt autistic, then hes a jerk. How are we to know if what he says is true or not." ....continued above.

  • I first saw this video under the Think Differently films on the National Autistic Society. I wondered if those who had posted the negative remarks had ever lived with anyone on the spectrum, probably not.

In the box above I have posted an opinion from someone I know with Asperger Syndrome who's had an extensive interest in and has been playing drums for 25 years.

  • first of all, you suck ass.

second, you are a disgrace to savants because you are not a savant. you are an asshole with a drum set.

third, most savants play more elaborate instruments like the piano. (no offense to drummers).

  • What amazing arrogance you are displaying.

  • your a piece of shit. take the "autistic savant" part off of your video. that is a real mental disorder, you putting that for the head of your video is like if i put "mental retardation" and i acted like an idiot. that is incredibly offensive to use that term when you arent a savant. not to mention you suck terribly at drums. ive been playing for 3 years and you have to be one of the worst drummers i have ever seen. no style or sense of rythem. you suck.

  • "Autistic Savant John Birmingham plays his genius instrument: the drum set." i bet he wrote that about himself, "Autistic savant", more like egomaniac.

  • Oh, so its autistic because he acts like a moron? Fucking cliches. People should actually know the meaning of the word 'autism' for fuck's sake. And it sounds like shit as well; any dumb fuck who gives a shot at imitating Animal from the Muppets can get close to this.

  • He is definitely not an autistic savant.

  • Good ? Yes. But not savant good.

  • a bit harsh

  • He isn't autistic.

  • and you know this...how?

  • Because I'm a neurosurgeon.

  • @Vikezupa savant abilities can be detected in the simplest songs, with a few lessons he will flourish!

  • Respond to this video... for a person with a disability to do this its very impressive, how many kids do you know that arent disabled still cant do this? savant abilities can be detected in the simplest songs.

  • @Vikezupa epic comment is epic

  • Jesus man someone get that guy a bigger drum kit...

  • awesome awesome awesome awesome! reminds me of how i stim when i beat box! awesome!

  • wowee!

going in to the Posautive Youtube group and its arts and savants subgroups, thank you!

  • my daughter is three and is autistic, yet she seems to have an inborn love for drums and looks natural at it. we're trying to figure out how to use it.

  • they are good at one thing and bad at other things, they have a extra cromosom at the DNA-Molekyl so the have 24 instead of 23, the human has 46 and the savants has 47.

  • could you please not spread nonsense here, you are talking about Downs Syndrome which has nothing to do with being a savant.

  • Wow~ He has an amazing drumming speed.

I thought autistic people have poor coordination skills? How did he get so good on the drums?

  • Apparently 10% of autistic people are savants, that is they are simply amazing at some field of endeavor, whether it be music, art, or numbers and calculations. It seems that this guy's talent is drums, and wow can he play!!!!
