Indeed, the United States seems to be falling on hard times, there is no denying that. Still I think there is potential for America to jump back, we still have the most commanding economy and military in the world and if carefully redeployed, each could become more efficent than ever.

Re torture: there's 2 types of detainees, those who know something and those who don't. For the 1st group, torture might get you some intel, but maybe you could have gotten it anyway. We agree that this kid should be punished. But why are we holding him in Gitmo and questioning him?? Toss his ass back to Canada, or toss his ass in jail (or juvie since he's only 16). But why are we spending so much money and time asking him stupid questions? He's not going to lead us to Bin Laden or other Al Qaeda leaders. He's stuck in the system, and we're paying for it. But instead, he's labelled an "enemy combatant", called a "dangerous terrorist", and has been sitting in Gitmo for years being questioned?? What information are we really going to get out of this kid? Why are people like this stuck in secret prisons where they no access to lawyers and the outside world? How does this help the US??

Easily. If you think Gitmo and interrogation via military personnel in a military tribunal costs a lot of money, well think about the money that is going to be spent on trials. Thanks to the almighty Supreme Court, we now have to arrest, try, & convict these sick punks in American courts. So instead of using our military we're using lawyers and judges, and courthouses. Not to mention the millions of criminals here in the USA already going through the system. Talk about deficit & backlog

No, why should we pay? Send him back to Canada, and let Canadian courts take care of it. They have laws to deal with idiots like him. Why are we treating him like a high-level terrorist leader? We should be improving security, not babysitting stupid kids. Our soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan need better support, and Gitmo and all our secret prisons are a waste of taxpayer money. It's simple: Question the high-level terrorist leaders, and send the low-level idiots back to their countries.
