However, saying this is played in the wrong key is saying that Slayer played it wrong.

Changing speed/pitch doesn't make the notes any different in direct correlation with each other.

It just changes pitch, is all.

Either way, Seven Churches by Possessed came out the year before RIB, and that was much more of a death metal album (even if it's death/thrash) than RIB. Likewise, Scream Bloody Gore came out the next year, and that was less thrash than death.

Yeah agreed. Plus, we had some more obscure bands from the South American scene, that, while probably more thrash than death, started hinting at the first elements of death metal. Hell, Morbid Visions came out the same year as RIB, and I'd consider it far more DM than the latter.
