I love that the person who says that cloning something isn't theft (even though the law says that it is and fair use does not apply in nearly every instance if theft) is trying to promote some semblance of morality in said non thievery.
@BigDogJang0 Techniquely the song is public domain, and since the video was all about stealing Beethoven's stuff, I think it was kind of assumed that people could figure out who it was by.
@pdxktv er, the creator supports themselves and future work by selling copies of the original, to copy the work of another is to divert income away from the creator and undermines the future of what you copy, most issues around copyright seem to more about distribution . . . . .
@pdxktv Plagiarization isn't the same thing as theft. How would you feel if you wrote a really good story that you were proud of and someone copied it and claimed that they wrote it themselves? You'd be pissed off regardless of whether or not they were making money off of it. When you're copying copyrighted material, you're making it available to everyone, but when you plagiarize, you're not even giving credit to the people who really made it. There's a big difference.
@ihatefurrys Oh, it's evil alright. Hard to say which is the most evil: Monsanto, Wal-Mart, Shell (Nigeria), Bank of America, Goldman Sachs. They are all evil in their own unique ways. And they are all running neck and neck.
The point of this video is to educate that not giving credit to an author is a bad thing, it was already established by them that copying is good. So copying is good but not giving credit is bad, it has nothing to do with current laws or anything, and the point is to change a moral viewpoint, so yeah it's expected that things don't work as we are now laws are not in accordance of morality in this subject.
You can give credit where it is due and still get sued for copyright infringement these days. That's the problem. Copyright isn't working as it should. It's broken. It's never worked properly. It's all about censorship and control.
@loqiloqi, all creative work is still derivative. Claim someone's work as your own and you'll eventually get caught out. In other words, don't ever do THIS. If you use someone's work to inspire you or create something new, well, it's something new, isn't it? Nina is not suggesting you need to give credit to all your sources (lord, the credits would often be longer than the work itself!).
lol

Ironic. This video forgot to credit Beethoven's symphony during the song credits.

I give credit to Bush, Cheney, and everyone who voted for Republicans and Democrats
for 1 million dead Iraqis. That's a LOT of individuals to give "credit" to.

@pdxktv Because someone worked hard on that piece of work, and if you claim that you're the one who made it, you're being an asshole.

So, I can become a star just by giving proper credit? I don't have to do anything of significance myself? Cool!
Valmiki: "Ramayana"
Nina Paley: "Sita Sings the Blues"
Beethoven: "Fur Elise"
Shakespeare: "Hamlet"
Justin Bieber: um...
Doesn't Monsanto or something own all the genes in my body by patent law?
Monsanto: me

@mphello Monsanto is the most evil, greedy corporation that has ever existed.

DAMN, I thought I could pass off my work as Beethoven's work as my own. WHO WOULD KNOW? It was the perfect crime.

Very nicely describes, even to a 6 year old,the copyright atribution thing. I only wish it was as easy to do so on youtube

Great. I shall post /this/ on tumblelogs instead of flaming people for their inability to link to a proper source. Well I'll probably do both.
