Yes, you do - there are traces everywhere. You would be amazed how many basic words

in Danish you already "know" without having learnt it all, as soon as you see through our

"weird" spelling - and spot a few letters that have been lost here&there, or consonants

It must be stated the difference is probably more to do with the different English groups, those with the supposed 'Norse' genetic make up are all from Englan/Anglian areas while the ones without are mostly Saxons and Jutes.

This is due to the different pattern of settlement and the fact the Angles came from Jutland and the Islands but the Saxons came from lower Jutland, Germany, Netherlands...etc... The Jutes came originally from Jutland however the ones in England were likely Rhenish Jutes.

The North-South divid is actually older than the Vikings. In the earliest period of English history the two areas where in two different spheres. Bernicia and Deira being the in the Northern Sphere and the rest being the Southern.

This was because the Angles who settled in what became Northumbria were newer immigrants and from more northern Denmark, the Islands and probably Southern Sweden (we know this by broaches...etc...).

The difference in genetics is not due to the Vikings, in fact it is in my mind unlikely that the too many people have Viking paternal ancestry in England, due the massacre of the Danes under Aethelred and then the massacre in Yorkshire under William the Bastard.

Also the genetic line does not correspond to the Danelaw exactly, parts of Mercia and Northumbria (Bernicia...modern Northumberland...not being under the Danelaw though a vassal) also have some difference, the line is the Thames.
