i wish they'd keep that bridge.. while the new one won't get backed up by all the stupid yankee tourists, i still like the old one better. but since when does sunset beach get a million tourists? we have to get to the beach at like 9am to get a good place.
i go to nc every yar in that spot and i go across that bridge every day its amazing and i cant belive that they r going to nock it down make sure u get a pic of a postcard!!!!!!
John, thanks for posting this. I couldn't get my coworkers to understand how the bridge worked and this helped them comprehend the idea. (somehow my description of "it swings open like a door does" didn't register to them). Our vacation group will be down you way this week for our 20th annual sojourn to the 28468. Crazy little bridge. Sometimes it's too bad that things like this can't be restored. Until last year, our city had the longest floating bridge in North America. This year, it's being sunk to the bottom of the lake.
they're putting that huge one in so more ppl can come on the island. i've been going to sunset for 15 years, and what they're doing to the bridge is not right :( that bridge is sunset beach's whole history and they're distroying it.
The way I look at it as is What IF the sad incident that happened in Ocean Isle happened in Sunset Beach. There is NO way that a Ladder Truck could make it over that bridge. Yes, if they were to keep the bridge they would have to make a sub station on the Island side. But lives come before history.
The ladder truck did a lot that day.. One year from today. Trust me I know. I was there, and on one of the first trucks in. I cant give to much info, but i can tell you that the ladder truck got a few of the teens out. Look at the news videos. They were EVERYWHERE.
Just trying to say that if there was another fire like this on SUNSET, you couldnt get the ladder truck over the bridge. Yes the bridge is Sunset's history, buts its getting old and beat down. Build a museum for it That would be nice

I go to that beach every summer, I stay at the oyster bay condos like 5 seconds down the road. lol i used to get mad waiting to get to the beach while we were sitting on the bridge when I was little. I'll be there in July this year. bringin my girlfriend and we are gonna have some fun! your so lucky to live down there. it seems like its growing up a lot though, how is it down there right now? I never made it down last year. I started college and didnt have the money.

What did the ladder truck do for them kids or even the house for that matter.
That island is not big enough to justify that kind of money spent on a bridge and wildlife intrusion.

The bridge is going to look pretty close to Ocean Isle's. The trees are down where I'm at, and behind me next to Sunset Beach's Fire Dept.
