I don't think that caffeine is so bad in occasional doses, but my addiction to Starbucks coffee is something I am suspicious of. It is very tasty, high quality coffee, but I find something insidious about the company. I am considering not giving them my business anymore.

What he's saying is that caffeine is part of a group of chemicals called xantine alkaloids similar to THC being part of cannabinoids. Both chemicals are useful and generally harmless. Some of the other xanthines are theobromine and theophylline, any many others with a range of effects from stimulant to depressant.

To clarify, I meant to say xanthine alkaloids are a class in the same way cannabinoids are a class of psychoactives, but I see how my wording there is fatally ambiguous. They are definitely not related; xanthines are psychoactive due to their resemblance of adenosene while cannabinoids resemble anandamide.

Just so you know, the caffeine in chocolate comes from the cocoa itself, and it is only a trace amount. Also, the daddy long leg (spider) is one of the most poisonous spiders in the world - but its mouth is to small to impact us.

Sometimes whats poisonious to one animal is not to another. It is clear that caffeine is not a poinson to us. But, it is not healthy to rely on it.

If you want slave-free chocolate, buy only organic. Thus far the Ivory Coast is not producing organic chocolate.

I'm never drinking caffeine again. I went to starbucks and ordered a Vente cup (biggest cup they got) and told them to fill it up with as much shots of espresso as it can fit.

16 Espresso's later I had caffeine poisoning. Was throwing up, light headed, nautious, very high blood pressure, huge headaches, rapidly increased heart rate, shivvering/jittering and the feeling that I was about to die. My pee smelled like espresso. Starbucks gave me the drink for free which should have been a warning.
