Fuck people who try to say other bands ripped off other bands. Pathetic. This sounds nothing like Nosferatu-Mothra, besides a bell. Yes, a bell sounds like a bell, in any song.
@EyesofNeurosis justin from godflesh was the one saying people rip him off and owe him money, that's why I pointed out that he's full of shit. and he stole the riff not just the bell, dumbass. tell your genius message about "inspiration isn't thievery" to justin next time he whines that fear factory owe him money
@EyesofNeurosis haha so you only argue with godflesh fans? I've been into them since the '80's by the way. also, when godflesh played my town in the early '90's I told justin I had the nosferatu record and he laughed about how I caught him red-handed stealing that riff from "mothra" (so there goes your theory about them sounding nothing alike)
@EyesofNeurosis yes it does, you just don't have a sense of humor- you said you won't argue with people who don't worship godflesh, implying that you will argue with those that do. and are you talking about yourself? I only "argue with" (make fun of) people online when they leave dumb comments in response to comments I have left. lighten up dude, for all you know we are friends in real life and here you are getting all bent out of shape over nothing
One of my earliest childhood memories is watching this video (though I didn't discover the name of the song until recently) with my father, back in the early 90s. Yes, there was a time when Godflesh videos were broadcast on "regular" TV.
Justin stole the main riff and the bell in this song from an instrumental called, wait for it, "Mothra" by Nosferatu (1979). He simply added Leonard Cohen's lyrics from "Avalanche" to it and then gets praised for his originality. Around that same time Justin said in interviews that Fear Factory owed him royalties for sounding like Godflesh (barely)... by his own standards he owes SWANS a lot of money, not to mention obscure bands like Nosferatu and 1919 who he stole riffs and beats from!
@smegmalfog Justin makes no secret of his influences or his sampling. By the way it's Hugh Cornwell (Stranglers) on the album Nosferatu. Stranglers being another of his big influences. Yes, I'm a fucking nerd.
i told someone many years ago that this wasn't real industrial. his industrial-light band fell by the wayside, and the power and influence of godflesh rumbles on.
What about G.C. Green? Justin is legendary but seriously Green needs some recognition too. Without his basslines, Godflesh would not of sounded right.
I love this song, but it actually sounds different from Godflesh's other songs
this one is more riff driven and upbeat, while most of there songs are more chaotic and give feelings of hopelessness, either way this band is amazing.
@horseloverfatjr I don't know what seems so embarassing to you on Ministry but then again it's just an opinion of yours I like their later metal incorporation yet not Al personality but the music is the hell call
Godflesh were fucking awesome. JKB is the fucking business. Who else can claim to be so instrumental in the origins of Grind, Industrial and PostMetal whilst not sounding like like anyone/anything else. The man is a monster.
And what is this supposed to prove? Have you ever heard what Ministry was doing in their early days? It was harmless electro-pop, nothing to do with the electro-trash metal (or so called "industrial metal") style they started to develop from 88
just plain bad ass. i've been a fan of the Flesh for a long time and they've led me to other awesome shit like Throbbing Gristle and Swans as well. yeah...you wanna talk industrial metal, this is the real shit. it's too bad it's gone, but i can understand not being able to do music like this your entire life. not without eating a gun or turning into a raging asshole (which Mr. Broadrick certainly is not) anyway.
I was standing in 2 feet away from J. K. at a Sunn O))) gig and he was high fiving everyone...I didnt know it was him until i developed some photographs later....FML!!!!
Being an avid Nine Inch Nails fan, I'm looking for more Industrial Metal, because I love that sound. Godflesh sounded like the name of some deathcore band [which is alright music to me] but I was surprised by their sound. I like it.
I would be interested if anyone completely understands this video, I mean if anything in it has a deeper Meaning. I found a lot related to the "black dog" in some scenes. The "black dog" is a synonyme for "depression" or "suffering", there are lots of sources, for example: read about the star sirius, and proceed about related themes, and soon you get to madness, depression (Depression is called the "black dog" in many sources) Also ist could be the theme of "dog day sunrise" by Head of D. or FF
I love all J.K. Broadricks stuff, weather its Godflesh leaking out of my friends headphones during art class or seeing Jesu play live. Their music is experimental, versatile, beautiful, and heavy all at the same time. -Akajoby
Now THIS is what Industrial is ... awesome work, this popped my Godflesh cherry (sort of). I've only listened to Jesu before, but I love this stuff. I must go clense myself in oils.
