they have that in pipestone minnesota and dubuque's industial river area where the freight rolls right bythe factories on the road... i agree how noone hits the train on a road yet they get them on the crossings... its the same idea as light rail but heavier..
Cant believe it in the UK there would be cops, 50 people with yellow vest the road would be closed. The Health & Safety jobsworths would have nightmares seeing this.
@SuperApple1337 Steel wheels on steel rails have much less rolling resistance per ton than rubber tyres on asphalt. Railways - including this one - are also built as near to level as possible, with much less gradient allowed compared to roads. This means that a locomotive with a few thousand horsepower is enough to move a train weighing a few thousand tons. A long train like this one - weighing at least ten thousand tons - requires several locomotives which are seen at the head of the train.
Houston, TX has a couple of places where this happens also. It's quite a trip when you look in the mirror and see a couple of switcher engines pulling into the middle of the road.
Great video. I love watching trains take over city streets. I hope the clown in the truck at the end was turning left somewhere cause otherwise, he was a jackass. He had plenty of room to travel along side the train, even with the trailer. Or, he could have pulled partially into the grass and gotten out of the way of the people behind him.
not too rare. Not here anyway. I live near these tracks (down the line), and they run on them all the time. I did volunteer work at the mission warehouse. And they ran nearly every day that i was there.
Amazing how they could roll through the middle of a street and never hit anyone, yet they could have a fully gated crossing and people would get hit there.
@AmtrakFlorida Probably because once it's on the road, it's easy to see and behaves like an 18-wheeler. Then again, I've heard of a lot of American drivers running red lights at normal traffic junctions too - when it involves a train it's basically Darwinism in action.
@lolmock25 Well, they needed to run tracks through there. there was already a street, so..... Plus those tracks, and the road, have been there for nearly (if not over) 100 years. I'm sure they didn't foresee the advent of the car, or the traffic nightmares that such a system would cause. I think it's awesome!
this sure is different ive never seen a video like this with train going through the middle of a street like this.sure interesting to watch... good work ervans
