  • 2:34-3:05 = jizzed in my pants

  • I just wanna say right now, that's not Maynard Ferguson... This recording was based off of the U.S. Army Blues and the lead trumpet player playing all of this was Dave Detwiler in Prelude Music now. Search him up online; I take lessons from him so I think I'd know.

  • These must be the same four people that dislike bird land on accident.

  • you.are.my.idol.

  • Sorry, this is not Maynard.

  • I would kill to see this live.

  • RIP

  • My dream is to play the solo at 1:30... thats one badass trumpet player...

  • i cant listen to this song without killing my speakers, because they dont have a badass setting on them.

  • I tried to play this and I had to give up on it because I could barley hit the first note.

  • The Song is called Brass Machine

  • @MrJazzChilli Yes... it is brass machine, but it is called "Scream Machine" because the trumpet is played higher than the original.

  • The trumpet soloist is Dave Detwiler of the Army Blues. I saw him do this live in '86 or so.

  • I love this... <3 made my eyes water...

  • Brass Machine < Scream Machine.

  • At 2:41... its an eargasm and at 2:55...OMG

  • I dont really care who played it cause they freakin rocked it... this is an awesome song and the band that played it freakin kicked ass

    +

  • @MrBaseballplayer2468 Thank You!

  • This is not Maynard. This is the Army Blues Jazz Ensemble from The US Army Band in Washington, DC. The composition is by Sergeant Major Mark Taylor and the lead trumpeter is Sergeant Major Steve Jones. The trumpet solo is by Master Sergeant Dave Nordland. The drummer is Master Sergeant Bruce Baldwin. The recording is from the 1980s.

  • It isn't maynard, for the last time everybody... They didn't play this song...

    *wave of dislikes*

  • FERGUSON WENT HAM!!!

  • maynard ferguson inspired me to write a song called A New Inspiration its on my channel plz sub

  • Only maynard would name brass machine scream machine

  • I thought it was named Brass Machine? Not Scream Machine lol

  • @JDMpanda16 it is... but its called scream machine because of the screaming trumpet, i think ^^

  • @JDMpanda16 It was. Than, Maynard arranged it.

  • Love that solo

  • Does anyone know where I can get the music for this?

  • @yellowtuwtle This is absolutely the Army Blues, Steve Jones on lead and Dave Detwiler on the solo in the 2nd part. That's also Twiler up the octave at the end. The chart was written by Mark Taylor when he was the arranger on the Army band, and is available commercially as Brass Machine. Yes, it's written down about a fourth for humans to be able to play it. You gotta know someone to get the original Scream Machine chart. I have the Brass Machine chart in my hand.........

  • @cfiigep Awesome! Thanks for the help

  • @cfiigep Could you send me a link of where you got it from?

  • Delicious

  • yes it is. I blow my load when I hear some good maynard!!!!

  • this is trumpet porn.

  • @onstad555

    fuck me, it actually is

  • @onstad555 What did you expect with name like 'Scream Machine?'

  • As mentioned below, this is not Maynard Ferguson. This is the Army Blues. The lead trumpet player was Dave Detwiler. I saw him play this in person...

  • has anyone given any thought that maynard could've covered this song? stop getting so angry.

  • @CDB1997 The only issue is that Maynard didn't cover this song, and if he did, there isn't a recording of it.

  • this may not be Maynard Ferguson, but it's still awesome!

  • Btw guys. This ISNT ferguson. This is the army blues band

  • must find on i-tunes....can anybody help???

  • @TrumpetMite10 Well, if you're searching for "scream Machine", It's actually called Brass Machine. Try searching for Brass Machine and let me know if you find it.

  • was he messin over Gillespie?

  • It's not fair. I can play that high and look like I'm not trying but it sure sounds like it. His tone is so pure up there though.

  • doesnt matter if it was maynard ferguson or not, or if the name scream machine or brass machine. doesnt make a difference. a great song either way. so shut up.

  • they should play this at the olympics

  • This is Brass Machine not Scream Machine. Great piece nonetheless!!

  • @Kinard5 every brass player whos ever played this nicknames it scream machine because of the screaming parts.

  • This was written after Bill Chase died! It's the U.S. Army Blues Band.

  • please change the picture, description, and title. its really bothering me…

  • 3 people died from this songs awesomeness

  • Sorry to tell you yet again but it is definitely Bill Chase. Find the song on iTunes or something like that and you will find that it is definitely not the army or marine blues band, let alone Maynard Ferguson

  • Sorry to tell you yet again but it is definitely Bill Chase. Find the song on iTunes or something like that and you will find that it is definitely not the army or marine blues band.

  • one simple tests to see if this really is maynard: if it was him, the esteemable bruce johnstone would be rocking the bari sax, and if there is a bari sax in this, i really cant hear it, so it DEFINATELY isnt ferguson. jonsiman122 has it right; this is either the army or marine blues band.

  • Sorry to tell you but, this is not Maynard Ferguson... this is Bill Chase and his band, from the album "Chase." This song is referred to as "Scream Machine" or "Brass Machine."

  • what happened to good drummers like these...

  • Great song, wrong description and title.

  • Wow the drummer's fills are AWESOME LOL.

  • dude change the title, description and everything about it that says its maynard cuz its not

  • this isnt maynard? its the U.S. Army Blues band

  • best trompet player ever maynard superb player

  • Just for the record, this isn't by Maynard. Maynard never played Brass Machine or Scream Machine.

  • Comment removed

  • @dJunGi This is by the US Army Blues Band. It is off the album "Scream Machine," and the soloist is Dave Detwiler. Maynard never recorded or even played Brass Machine or Scream Machine.

  • Ferguson was CANADIAN.

    Automatic win.

  • Relabel this. This isn't even Maynard's Style. :)

Sounds pretty good though. Makes me want to look into this Dave Detwiler guy.*

  • @ishyboy1993 you really should look into him hes an amazing trumpet player. google him. you play?

  • @Yankeezfaithful

Yeah I just started back in.. September. But I only play for school right now :/ Unfortunately I have only been under a very bad beginning band instructor :/

  • Not Maynard it's the "Army Blues" from the lp with the same title as the song.... Dave sounds good on here!!!! Fun tune...... I think the second solo is Roger Rossi...

  • @wvtrumpet Its all Dave. when i found out it was Dave and i listened to it again i could totally tell because of the tone and such. its all Dave

  • Not Maynard it's the "Army Blues" from the lp with the same title as the song.... Dave sounds good on here!!!! Fun tune......

  • THATS NOT MAYNARD!!!!!! its Dave Detwiler and the US Army Blues

  • MAXWELL R U SURE!!!?!??!?!

  • Never mind. I know why I dont' have this Maynard song, because according to the comments, It ain't maynard. still sounds good though. needs to be relabeled

  • What album and year is this from. I got most of his 70's records and a few from the 60's but I don't think I've got this one.

  • we're playing a different version of this song for jazz band and it sounds amazing

  • wish i could play like that! its so cool! lip bustin n brain popping tho lol

  • 2 bastards missed the like button 0.o

  • i think 4:27 has to be the worst part

  • there are two douchebags who dont' like the real music!,

  • brass machine!!!

  • 3:55 fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck :L

  • very first song i played my freshman year and fell in love with jazz

  • 100% sure it's Dave Detwiler..Army Blues soloist back in the day...I take lessons from him.

  • @jdonegan92 And Joe would know!

  • Comment removed

  • Great recording whoever played it, some people need to calm down with their criticism! It's all about the music people :D

  • how could you not like this???

  • Comment removed

  • Maynard is, was, and always be the Man and a great inspiration to all of us mere mortal trumpeters. But...This was originally recorded by former Buddy Rich and Woody Herman lead trumpeter Dave Stahl. Sure sounded like Dave to me. Awesome player and a very nice person, as well.

  • @2:34...idk if its my speakers or something but sounds like they were kiiling those mics! AWESOME!!!!!! XD

  • this is good ^^ but its not maynard....

  • @pa5436 good is kind of an understatement, don't you think?

  • Are you sure it isn't Bill Chase who's playing here?? I've got the same version and that says it's Bill Chase, not Maynard Ferguson. It's absolutely the same. I can be wrong 'cause I downloadet it..

  • @Koennsmits you have a point, this doesnt sound all that much like maynard, he doesnt use a ton of vibrato on every single note...

  • @Koennsmits This version is the US Army Blues - I'm 100% positive of this.

  • EARGASM

  • Its called brass machine and scream machine theres two different names but they are the same song.

  • @TrumanBand brass machine is written down a fourth so that it's easier to play...

  • its down a fifth not fourth.

  • @Yankeezfaithful he said up a 4th. which would be down a 5th.

  • @jdonegan92 yup. Makes me sad that I cant find the chart to Scream Machine. Im too lazy to write it all up a 4th -.- haha

  • This is called Brass Machine not Scream Machine! :P

  • @jamesmustafamusic Actually it is called Scream Machine. Brass Machine isn't the same.. Brass Machine is written in a lower register and the solo's aren't there..

  • @jamesmustafamusic Nope - This version is The Scream Machine. The lowered version that is sold to HS Band programs is called The Brass Machine. Same basic tune, but the title is based on the key the chart is in.

  • This is such a great one, thanks for uploading it- I can't find an mp3 anywhere

  • geil geil geil geil!!!

  • just to set the record straight . . . This is a recording by the United States Army Blues, the official jazz ensemble of the United States Army Band (Pershing's Own) recorded around 1984. The original title is "Scream Machine" the publishers were afraid the title might scare off potential buyers so renamed it and lowered the key for publication. The trumpet section is: Steve Jones (lead), Dave Detwiler (jazz soloist), Roger Rossi, Dave Nordland, Jack Garner (octave lines at the end).

  • @bchipster it is indeed. i have this on vinyl because my dad joined the blues a little after this recording was made.

  • just to set the record straight

  • its kinda sad that ferguson died..

  • anyone know where i can download brass machine? cause last time i checked the only version on itunes was a watered down crappy version...

  • What goofball would call Maynard, "Walter"? That is just stupid.

  • The published title of this is "Brass Machine." On Dave Stahl's very first big band record(vinyl) from the 80's, "Anaconda," he recorded this very tune and titled it "Scream Machine." This youtube submission is not from that album and neither is it a Maynard Ferguson performance. Maynard never recorded or performed this. Hope this helps. BTW, if you want to purchase this chart it is by Mark Taylor and comes in both a professional and watered-down arrangement.

  • this doesn't sound too much like Maynard, I think his sound has much more vibrato. but this is also great!!

  • This song is no where to be found. I've searched every song title suggested, and looked for the suggested artists. The only song that mached was Brass Machine. I can't seem to find this recording though.

  • @CobraStang08 thats because its called brass machine. its not actually called scream machine

  • @donttouchzorgons This version is "The Scream Machine" - same essential tune, different key. The Scream Machine is played about a 5th higher. The Brass Machine is the lowered version of the tune.

  • The trumpet soloist doesnt sound like maynard. Totally different tone. But its still awesome Maynard or not.

  • listening to those trumpets up in the stratosphere make me want to run and jump... then pull out my horn and play up there too lol

  • THIS IS BILL CHASE AINT IT

  • @PurplephiHaze007 its maynard ferguson

  • Thank you,...it was a question..no need for the thumbs down..

  • @PurplephiHaze007 errr sorry kiinda overreacted there =(

  • @abhijit9331 its coo

  • Bill Chase played lead for Maynard in 1958 this recording I believe was made with Maynards Band later on in the late 60s early 70s featuring Bill as a soloist. I have a live version of this witch is almost identical . Bill Chase died tragically in a plane crash in 1974.

  • Mark Taylor wrote this song for Dave Stahl and then expanded it for the Army Blues in the mid-80s.

  • ok, thank you for the correct info

  • THis recording is the Army Blues from the album Scream Machine, recorded in the mid-80s. Bill Chase was already dead when this song was written.

  • I can vouche for that I play trumpet and I believe its two octaves in certain places

  • @RYUU91 Scream Machine and Brass Machine are similar songs but Scream machine is taken up an octave by the trumpets

  • I have both charts. Brass Machine is in Bb and Scream Machine is in F. It's the same chart, but Mark Taylor knew he'd never sell it at the higher range (that is from Mark himself).

  • is there any chance you could send me both arrangements in pdf? x]

  • any chance you could email me both charts? x]

  • My jazz band played this last semester... Only it was titled Brass Machine?...

Oh well, still a fun chart. :)

  • AHHH! DIXIELIVIN88!!!! im the same way! maynard and arturo are my idols. im a sophmore in hs this year, and this is the year where ive started to increase my range. AHH! sorry, kinda ironic..

  • Maynard Ferguson and Arturo Sandoval are my idols.

ive been playing trumpet for 9 years. their music inspired me to increase my range my sophmore year in HS and by my senior year i could reach a super C very easily. So thank you maynard for the inspiration. RIP

  • Brass machine ftw...

  • this makes me freak out at the end every time!! i dont play trumpet.. i play trombone but thats freaking amazing!

  • can you give me the mp3 download link please!

  • wow he killed it!!!!!

  • jihaaaaaaaaaaa das geht ab man!!!!

  • problem with posting good music on you tube...everyone has to be a jerk critic...just enjoy the post and good music...

  • freakin awsome!

  • brass machine you mean?? Not even maynard...

  • Actually, Brass Machine is a take off of Scream Machine they are slightly different.

  • @hotchilischote Sorry but go back to school and learn more about Maynard before you make another comment like that

  • you sad, sad, little person. This isn't Maynard. It's the Army Blues from either 85 or 86. Steve Jones on the lead solo and Dave Detwiler on the improv solo. Jack Garner plays the octave up melody. you should change this, sir.

  • maynard makes high Es sound like nothing. as if its a basic note that all trumpets should be able to hit

  • it is

  • yeah, if your expirienced, maynard makes it sound like a first year's kinda thing. i couldnt hit E's till my fifth year, and when i did my range skyrocketed... it was a good day.

  • ur range went through the roof 2? lol.

  • It's a good thing I am wearing my brown trousers while listening to this toon... qweef---ker-SPLAT... OOPS

  • Bill Chase also recorded Scream Machine.

  • Army Blues - Dave Detwiler

  • hahahaha my dads friend. i've been to daves house and everything. my dad is in the army blues.

  • yeah...he was my private instructor for 5 years.

  • Comment removed

  • really? hhaa thats soo cool!!

  • Has anybody noticed the description of the video on the side ? It's amazingly long !!!!!!!!

  • im pretty much positive this is brass machine... since ive played this, and on the title of the music it said "brass machine"

  • stahl's brass machine = Maynard's scream machine

I hear ya tho, you might have the Future corps' version (idk which one that would be under) that says brass machine, I know thats what we play here.

btw This isnt a Ferguson piece, its DAvid Stahl, just like La Fiesta isn't fegurson either, its a Chick Corea piece, but we all knew that

  • thank you! i've just always known this as brass machine, and i know JM's scream machine and when i clicked on this i was all confused and stuff...

  • scream machine is a fourth higher. i think.

  • plus this recording isnt even maynard... this is the Army Blues..

  • This is a 5th I believe above the normal Brass Machine arrangement.

And there is also an easier arrangement of Brass Machine that is a 9th lower than this one.
