Vestris, a Lambert & Holt liner, sank in a stormy sea off the Virginia Capes in 1928. One of the reasons given was the possible shifting of the cargo below deck due to poor storing when loading. The photos were quite unique and the one of the passengers on the tilted deck remains quite famous. The death toll for a small steamer was heavy (about 150 or so) but small compared to the big three disasters of 1912, 1914, and 1915.
