I ALso HAve a Pontiac Grand Am GT But its not supercharged..Do You Think IT Would Cost ME alot to get it supercharged? what if i just need it installed would labor be high? your opinion...
@ImageJPEG actually, unless it had modds, it would not have gone quicker. I ran with many GTP's and only lost to ones who had modifications. a stock GTP will run about 15 flat, my grand am ran high 14's. but the grand prix is a much longer car, we had about the same ride height with my suspension... and mine handled better :-P
great race! i luv it when people take cars and turn'm into pretty fast sleepers. (g.a.) and for the red line...i luv a sleeper. i have a97 sho v8 twin turbo(2 1.7L civic turbos) a monster tranny cuz we all know the taurus was not known for the several impressive power plants but, the shitty trans that couldnt proove the engines, and a 100 2 stage nos. i live in chicago so the nearest track is on rt 41 in indiana(bout 80 miles). i will have vid in bout a month or so. it pulls like a gtp on crack!
can somone please tell me if grand ams are reliable? i found one with less than 90,000 miles and itis about 3 thousand dollars for it.. i want one should i buy it?
@ERIC933G i might just get this camry from this mechanic if ist the right year after i check it out.. my moms friend bought a car from him and it lasted her three years till she bought a newer car it seems really legit
@graffwriter17 my brother has had his grand am for four years and has had nothing replaced on it and he races it. you have to take care of a car so it will be reliable.
most of them are not the best but some people have good luck with them...you want reliabilty buy a honda or toyota there proven to be reliable the facts are out there.
no but i still have a couple parts left from my part out, but they are specific to a 96 - 98 grand am. carbon fiber hood and full exhaust headers to tips...
idk for sure but looks like the guy in the redline either spent too much time spinning the tires the first time or didnt take the grand am too seriously off rip. second run was much better.
@tokin420nchokin the first race he spun through first, the 2nd race i did, the 3rd race we both got a much better launch and he edged me out, he got me byt about a door length.
@PimpXXXGuitarist it is a GM direct supercharger kit. keep your eye on the black market and you can pick up an entire kit for around $800. i wouldn't reccomend it though. turbo is the best way to go. way more options and way more power. the supercharger puts out maybe 200hp or so on a stock 2.4l
the only way to cool the supercharger made for this application is with meth injection. its a roots style charger and an intercooler doesnt work. however, it wasnt heatsoak, it was a bad launch for my second race, you can actually hear me spin out through first gear and rev out. so when i hit 2nd i was too low in rpms and speed. the last race (not on video) we both got a great launch, and he beat me but it was a lot closer than the 2nd race...
ok then let me rephrase, THIS SUPERCHARGER could not be intercooled. I built this car personally knew it inside and out and knew what was available for it aftermarket. the only way to cool the charger that i had on my g/a was alky / meth injection.
@p0ppinfre5h tru (idk why but my comment removed it's self) I've always liked the look of the Grand am gt, I wish they came with a 3.8L would have been sick, but you sure made due with what you had
used to be, blew the tranny a month ago, doing a full part out now. the 5 speed was standard in 96 - 98 grand ams with the 2.4L engine, automatic was the option. There is a lot of them out there, and probably a dozen ga's supercharged. used to be more but they stopped making the parts for them so its gettin hard to find... thanks for the props though man, i put a lot of work into it, and i was very happy with it overall
Did you have to rebuild your tranny or engine at all? Cause I wanna put a supercharger on my 97 grand am gt, but I was afraid of my engine blowing up from the super charger. Any help?
well the stock setup with the largest pulley adds 40, i have a smaller pulley, upgraded fuel, headers and full exhaust, plus a really good tune!... my guess is it puts down 225 to the wheels... nothin crazy but stock is 150 crank
Yeah, not bad at all..I have a 1998 Grand AM SE with the 2.4 Twin Cam..I only have a few mods to it..Custom K&N Intake, Plugs, And Custom 24in glasspack muffler...And Sounds good and runs really good..Alot of ppl underestimate our cars..Ive beat several V-6's and kept up with a Stock WRX for 1-3rd gear..And, is your exhaust custom?
my exhaust is custom from beginning to end. i have the 2.4L, i had headers custom made, goes to an empty catalytic converter, then 2 1/4" custom bent dual pipes out to Borla ProXS Mufflers with custom rolled tips... got about a grand into the exhaust altogether...
this grand am is officially for sale by the way! 4900 or best offer, f i dont get any takers ill be selling it in peices and parting out all the performance stuff
theyre nice cars man, theyre quick from the factory, ive got mod list thats a mile long, and hes stock, he beat me 2 out of 3. we both had traction issues though.
I love the spinning wheels on the FWD cars.... just looks so goofy and cute! lol.
