@the934x4 Do you realize that in the 60's, GM was not Incorporated but rather had divisions. Just because it was made by GM does not make it a Pontiac.
Kids today (anyone under 40) have been fed the corporate nonsense that makes them think GM is GM and in the 60's, this was not the case.
The performance capabilities of the LSX does not justify putting a Chevy engine in a historic Icon like a 64 GTO. The car is flawless but the LSX is a slap in the face to the legend of GTO 64-74.
@the934x4 Playing little GTO, that touts the 389 as a great performance motor on a video of a beautiful 64 that has had it's engine compartment defiled by a Chevy engine seems kinda stupid. The song is about a Pontiac with a Pontiac drive train. But hey! do what you want with YOUR car but the fact is, it is now nothing more than a chevelle with Pontiac trim package. Oh and a Pontiac engines with aluminum intake/heads weigh in at less than 500 pounds and HP potential is 500-800 hp. All Pontiac.
No matter what, Pontiac motors should be in Pontiacs. I have an iron headed 389 that makes 504 hp.. The car is beautiful but the chevy motor is proof people don't know the real potential of Pontiac.. If they did a Pontiac motor would be in that otherwise beautiful GTO.
We have a kid that has a 64 GTO, with a 2 spd numbers matching auto, which is trash for any cruising, and a 389 4bbl only making 288 HP, they just don't have the go
What I'm trying to get to is he wants a fast car, not a correct car. I'm building a black 69 Judge clone and using a LSX block bored to the maximum 454 cubes, putting trick flo 70cc heads, trick flo 3,000-7,000 rpm cam, edelbrock Victor Jr Intake, trick flo dual springs, Aluminum 770 CFM street avenger carb, PST suspension kit, etc to out run and out corner the ricer kids. Run twice as fast and corner better... Be great
Jeeze the 389 in the 64 GTO is not the strongest engine for a street cleaner. I have a 69 Dodge Charger with a punched out 440- 528 CID with Edelbrock Performer RPM cam and heads(Ported and polished), a mopar six pack manifold topped with three Holley 2bbl carbs. 0-150 in 7 seconds, got er to 210mph, with 1,000 revs left
I'm in love, beautiful job sir! Is it for sale?

@66PMDGMC I will say that the 421 Superduty was a good engine...bu this one weighs half as much and puts out equal hp and torque as your 389x

You do realize that Pontiac, Chevy, GMC are all made by GM and the LSX block is a GM performance part....

@Trendyrapslut I am well aware of the Pontiac aftermarket. But it can be done lighter and quicker with an LSX and a 6 spd.

Put a number correct engine in it and stock wheels on it, and clean the add on gauges off the interior and it could be nice.

Somebody should take that GTO out and shoot it with that engine in it. Go buy a chevelle and screw it up.
