Nashville songwriter Dennis Morgan (who cowrote this song with songwriter Simon Climie) originally intended for this song to be a country song.... but for whatever reason Rod Stewart got a hold of it. I like both Rod and Sara, but to me this version seems to be tame in comparison to Rod's. The arrangement and vocal here seem to belie the emotion the lyric requires. Rod's version is better.
