Well, LMCE is able to do a lot of home automation, but the media center aspect is undeniable. You can play television, dvds, music, and photos. It can also make that media available throughout your network. That's pretty much the definition of a media center
What TV Tuner card are you using? I'm pulling my hair out trying to decide which kind to get that will be compatible with LinuxMCE\Ubuntu. I'd like a hybrid card I guess, that will do digital and analog.
In this video, I used a pchdtv 5500. It's supposed to be analog and digital, but I don't recommend using it for analog. It works well as a stand alone in LMCE, but not with multiple tuners. I currently use the haupauge pvr500 for analog. I also recently got a haupauge 1250 for digital, but haven't tested in LMCE. Works great in mythtv
LinuxMCE is intended to be the centerpiece of the entire house. As such, you should plug in two NIC cards. One connected to the modem, the other, connected to a switch to go to your internal network. If you need wireless, you can re-purpose a wireless router as an access point simply by not connecting to the internet port, only using the LAN ports, and disabling DHCP.
Thank you for your video. I appreciate the time you've taken to promote the software we've been working on. I do want to point out, that while our hardware selection is limited, what we do support, we support exceptionally well. And there are many other aspects of the system. Very strange that you had to install dvdcss. I have NEVER had to do this.
Yeah, there seemed to be some network detection trouble with my install. I was running from a router which was plugged into my cable modem. But I had no internet until I turn off the router functions in the web admin page
I thought it wasnt supposed to act as a primary media center. Isnt that the job of Mythbuntu.

@Inmate527 Mythbuntu is actually pretty much this with an extra - bloated for a simple media center with low specs - job.....recording. lol

Dillinger128 2 years ago
Yes, LMCE, if set up properly, will automagically detect all shared media on the network and forward it to all media directors

If you want the easiest digital tuner, spend a little more money and get the silicondust HDhomerun. Easiest of all to use with LMCE

Yeah, you have trouble if you don't RTFM.
A car has less options than LinuxMCE, yet most people read the rules of the road and take a drivers ed course before driving.
I didn't have the troubles you did.
