They showed that a $1500 safe doesn't offer much protection not bolted down. That's not even the safe from Home Depot or Walmart. They want you buy a $2500+ safe. But I would like to see how a $2500 compares to a $1500 safe.
With more manufacturers competing in their sacred $2500 market, they are upset.
There's no standardization of protection. You don't really know what you are going to get for less than $2500.
Made in the USA doesn't mean a lot to me...just take GM and Chrysler as example.
Ive got a "Cheaper" safe. First off you will never find it. Plus you would have to get past my custom home security system, which I installed when I was doing it for a living. And wow they sure were making alot of noise.....if they get to my safe they better hope and pray i dont wake up...
On dial safes people make a common mistake by turning the a little when there done so it leaves one more combination to solve plus you can feel where the other two are lined up. there for all you got to o is find the thir combination between two points. Thats if you live with the 75% of people that o that. Usaully takes around 20 secons to break open. I did that to one of my friends an i commented him on his 9mm when he woke up! funny stuff. Remember to completely turn the dail one full turn. TY
Ok let's say it took the BGs a minute to get into the house, they now have to FIND my safe (which is bolted to the wall AND the floor in a closet) then get into it, oh did I mention that they have to do this W/ all four of my dogs trying to eat their balls?
OK, This video is to wake people up that safes at big box stores are not going to do the job. People all the time lock THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS in guns and valuables in a $500 safe. Does that make sense? And anyone who has a safe has at least a few thousand in it. What is that 5 guns and some jewlery? Besides having to replace inportant paperwork. You only do it one time. You can get a great safe like a BF Series by American Security for around $1300 that is almost impossible to pry open.
1. Who leaves a safe in an open room not bolted to a floor?
2. They used the word "investment" all wrong. The true definintion of an investment is something that puts money in your pocket. Safes, or in this case Resenditial Security Containers", don't put money in your pocket. Just like houses don't put money in your pocket. Hence, a safe or RSC is NOT an investment.
This video is staged poorly, they could have at least used better editing when they attempted to fade out the bolts on the bottom of the safe that would have stopped the door from being pried. If I was a maker of one of the safes that they showed the brand name of I would be after them for associating me with deceptive marketing.
Safe did not have top and bottom bolts. The safe in video is a Liberty Centurion. Liberty knows about the video, and has release a statement saying to there dealers to use it to up sell to higher end models.
Great video - very informative. Many people here are saying that it's easier to break into because it wasn't bolted to the floor. From my experience (not as a thief), bolting it to the floor makes it EASIER to break into. The bolts hold the safe firmly in place while the prybars do their work - no extra floor space necessary! Buy a good safe!
Who buys an inexpensive safe expecting it to perform like the expensive ones?
The video misses the point that people already know their Walmart safe isn't going to be as secure as one that costs 5 times as much and can only be bought through a dealer. But for most of us, its secure enough.
If it'll keep kids from getting their hands on them and prevent the "smash and grab" burglar its fine.
Next you're going to tell me that a Suburban isn't as off road capable & damage resistant as a Bradley.
This is why you BOLT THE SAFE TO THE FLOOR. If that safe had been properly mounted with 6" lag bolts into the concrete, it wouldn't have been able to easily be knocked over.
Also, the majority of thieves aren't going to know how to get into a safe easily. Most crackheads just grab what they can and go.
This video does have good points, but you CAN buy a decent safe at major retailers. Definately a video put out by a "small safe shop" scare type-video.

thats why i got a glass relock

A glass relock only prevents the lock bolts from retacking. These guys are prior the weak door and bypassing everything.

Fort Knox safes are better.
ohiodeerhunter21 2 years ago
Fort Knox builds crap just like Liberty does. Both companies also build a high end product that is secure as well.

A couple things I noticed:
1. Who leaves a safe in an open room not bolted to a floor?

If you sell your hosue for more than you paid for it, was that not an investment?
If someone tries to pry your safe open and fails, does that not keep your valuables safe or money in your pocket?

Investment [1] is the active redirection of resources/assets to creating benefits in the future. So no, they did not use it wrong.

A $100 port-a-power would have raped that safe even faster.

So, if I don't put the safe where they can knock it over sideways, or stand with 10 feet of space next to it, no problem, right?
And of course, boobytraps underneath would be illegal!

nice "scare tactic" video there... so how much are your "supAr awesome safes?"

Any safe is better then no safe and not everyone can afford a $2000 + safe.
Bolt it to the floor and do not keep any crow bars near it :)

I am in the market for a gun safe and this video is definitely informative to the new buyer.

I often suspected that the 'safes' available at places like wallmart weren't all they were cracked up to be, no pun intended.
My sister bought one of those Safty box things that look like they could survive a car wreak. Someone smashed it open with a hammer and robbed em : /
