From what I've read there was alot of CIA operatives present at that airshow. I think its within the realm of possibility that they sabotaged the plane. Remember the cold war was at its height during that era.
To all the fellow trolls and mindless ignorant people out there.
A french mirage came over tu-144 and the pilots maneuvered to avoid a collision, which caused the plane to pitch sharply down, because the plane went 90 degrees down it couldnt take the stress and it's air frame failed
@RainfulPhenix That's only one of several theories regarding the crash. You are piling unproven assertions on top of assumptions with your statement.
Hah. It is not a theory. This has most likely happened and it is claimed to be proven by some sources of information. The Tu-144 wont have simply dived for no reason at such a steep angle to break itself apart. Another explanation would be engine stall. Those are two most promising explanations suggested by many people and websites and there are valid explanations too.
@RainfulPhenix some websites said that the soviet designers actually stole the concorde blueprints but the french or the british designers modified the blueprints to make the soviets believe that the concorde/TU-144 could do stuff that wasnt actually designed to do and that made the pilot believe that the TU could make the stunt that finally cause them to break apart and crash
They are websites. They are not nescessarily proven to be reliable, especialy websites.
Eye witnesses claim it was a near collision, and the plane dived. Concorde would of suffered in the same way because of the laws of aerodynamics.
Blueprints are extremely hard to get. I doubt Russians copied the concordes "fake" blueprints. The two planes have different. Have different flight dynamics, dimensions, engine pacement and cockpit.
Look, I can add "ski" onto a name and think I look clever!
One Russian reactor suffered a melt down. Last I heard, the Japanese have the same track record, and the United States almost joined the meltdown club with Three Mile Island. The worst thing the Russians had going for them was their economy and the corruption at the top levels of government. These days, we see the same level of corruption in Congress. Republicans crap on our country, and the Democrats don't clean it up.
@PierreCle Yes! You're right! That means that I would prefer to have the average russian citizen standard of living than to have the average american citizen standard of living.
To all who say that TU-144 is Concorde replica. If You look up commerial supersonic planes on the web You will find more than 6 projects (besides TU-144 and Concorde) which were ment to fly supersonic. THE CONCPETS ALL LOOK THE SAME (more or less). But only Tupolev and Concorde were airborn... This is why they look so similar.
TU-144 was departured from commercial service because it was uprofitable on inner airlines. 68 rubles Moscow-Alma-ata ticket vs 48 rubles ticket for subsonic airplane. TU-144 was created for international airlines.
@akaAlexthekid Just shows how the Russians cut corners too to get theirs in the air first. The Concorde prototype had 5000 flying hours before it was cleared for service whereas the Tu-144 had less than 800. Safety was clearly an after thought with them
I was there and it was strange it happened in slo mo I saw the front aerofoil break off and enter the engine. I was flying home that night, the aircraft went unserviceable and instead of a B727 we came home in a caravelle.
Yeah, it was the Mirage pilot's fault. The tu 144's were awesome planes. Faster than the Concorde, and don't they still fly them some times in science projects or something?:)

Guys, why the arguments about the US or Russia having the better planes? Both have pros and cons. Logistically the US does have the superior fire power and sophisticated technology. Russian migs can withstand crash landings better than US fighters. However, all that's moot as the US has the majority of the worlds nukes.

The French designed the Concorde. then Russians then stole the Blueprints, which still had some technical difficulties, and then made a replica. Called the Concordski.
The Russians have designed some fantastic aircraft in their own right, but they are also most excellent at copies .For example the U.S. B-29,the space shuttle and the Concorde.
Thanks, but only the bomber was a copy (Tu-4 = B-29). The Russian space shuttle program only had a similar looking orbiter, and Tu-144, though it had many common traits with the Concorde, cruised on afterburners (which was a bad idea from the point of fuel economy: 68 rubles for Moscow - Alma-Ata ticket compared to usual 48 rubles limited the plane's popularity) and had canards (which made it safer during landings)
The manvouvers they attempted were not approved or ever done before. This was following Concordes fantastic display previously. The russians built this with large metal plates rahter than the conventional small ones. With nowhere to stop, fatigue caused massive cracsk which would bring the bird down. Beautiful looking aircraft but rushed into production.
Russians stole blueprints of the Concorde, and then rushed to get their half-assed "Concordski" in the air before the British and French could get their legitimate program going....aaaaaaand that's why this crash happened, because the Tu-144 was a piece of junk. The end.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
The new Russians are the Chinese, they love stealing tons of ideas from everyone look at their J10 it's a exact copy from the Israeli Lavi. The Ruskies saw the American SR71 and made a piece of trash MIG-25/31 to "compete" and so on and so on.
Tu-144 is not the exact replica ofConcorde,as they differ inlenght, wing-silhouette, weight, and manufacturing. But there are solid prooves that Soviet-spies stole some Concorde-designs. In order to achhieve long-time-resistence Concorde was built using the edge-of-the-art manufacture-methods (duralumin,electron-beam, numeric-controlled-machines),which there weren't inUSSR that time
@anisocoro THE FUCKING RUSSIANS ARE IN CHARGE WITH THIS SORT OF ACTIVITIES, remember the TU 4 (B-29) , Soyuz engines (V-2) and so on...this mother fuckers are stilling from everywhere and they consider is regular!...same Japanese did in first half 20 th century with ships , till some smart designers made a "small" mistake and the ship they build capsize .....lol..maybe it was the same with this shit 144...
@DiscoverRussia Clown is your putin and his friends!..is u want toi check someting , check what's happened with factory Karl Zeiss Jena after WW2...you'll be surprised on haw smart is Bolshevik people...but sure he has something : a huge mouth!.. and a full of shit place for brain...
Soyuz has V-2 engines ? Never heard of it, becouse Soyuz has enigines developed by russian space company in 60`s, when V-2 rocket engines were allready at that time dinosaurs and fosils for museum !
Have you ever heard of Russian rocket scientist Konstantin Tsiolkovsky ? He was the one, who first write plans and technology for rocket engines in Russia in time of Imperial Russia.
i know that entire US space program and NASA is based on Nazi gestapo guy Werner Von Braun.
@anisocoro How do you know that it wasn't the British and French that stole the Russian research? After all, Russians are smarter in many respects, and have more well built machines and technology!!!!
Then how come the British-French Concorde went into a better service than the Soviet TU-144... If the Russains are smarter, how come Concorde was a better success compared to the TU-144 in other words.
"How do you know that it wasn't the British and French that stole the Russian research?"
lol you wish... Dude if they stole it, how could the TU-144 been a complete failure to the Concorde then?
@IronManu77 Soviet Inteligence stole the plans to the Concorde and gave them to Tupolev. However, they were false plans that had the profile of the wing all wrong, making slow speed stability impossible. Tupolev tried to fix this issue with the Canards. Didnt work.
Dont get me wrong, Soviet/Russian/Ukranian aircraft producers (Suhkoi, MiG, Tupolev, Antonov) have built many excellent planes . The Tu-144 was not one of them.
@anisocoro Yeah, you're right. It wasn't a replica, ours was perfect to the last detail. The Paris Crash was due to a strip of metal that came off of a Continental Airlines DC-10. That's what I find with British aircraft, they're rare but also brilliant. Need I say more than Concorde, Spitfire or Harrier?
Apparently a soviet spy named Sergei Fabiew supplied the Soviet Union with a complete set of the Concorde blueprints. Maybe the Soviets were fast workers!
true, but it flew too early due to the competition between the Soviet and the west.. The 144 appeared at air shows even before it had seen proper testing.. Pilots have described in detail how dangerous these flight were and during some flights up to 70% of all the vital systems in the airplane broke down (in the air!!!).. I'm glad the cold war is over..
The cause of the accident started with a negative punt. The pilot saw the mirage and levelled the plane to quickly from the steep accent he was in as a result the engines stalled and he nosed the plane down to restart. they got power back but it was not enough and pulled up to hard, the force over streached the airframe and it failed. This was attested to by a concorde pilot at the airshow and he heard the engines die as he levelled the 144. The french admitted to the miragecovertly taking pics
@quattro610 As a matter of fact TU144 was crased to the ground on purpose of the west. The human mankind will have on plane faster than TU144. As a matter of fact the destruction of the TU144 fleet was THE FIRST condition imposed by the Bush senior satanic-himself to Misha Gorby.
@quattro610 Who fucking cares? The -144 was a hastily assembled piece of junk bound for failure. The fault was that of the pilot in command. "Oooooo...they're taking a picture of me! Now what was I supposed to be doing? Oh yes, flying the plane..." Russians have a habit of dying when showing off their planes. And Tupolev was a puppet. Christ, he had to personally approve each commercial -144 flight at the airport before it took off!
I see your brain has been saturated by the "Russia is bad" immense propaganda. You have no evidence to support your argument. You just spill out your words because you want to convince yourself concorde was better even if you dont know half of the info you need in order to make an argument for and against. You are biased. This was crash partly caused by near collision with a fighter taking pictures.Stop stereo typing that russians are suicidal and get a grip of reality boy.
@Lvieru96 Which of my claims do you refute? That the -144 was a piece of crap is well documented by its many failures and quick departure from the skies after a very brief period (55 flights) of commercial passenger service. It is well-documented Tupolev had to approve each passenger flight personally. And the official crash report on the Paris Air Show incident reveals the pilot overstressed the plane; your conspiracy theories hold no water. The facts speak for themselves...
Overstressed because of near collision, causing the plane going down. The fighter jet is visible in the full video of the crash. For pete's sake have some common sense.I dont see how it was a failure. It was faster and longer than the concorde, and it did NOT copy the concorde.
I presume you got your facts off western internet sites, written by people just like you.
The crash cost money, and the economy was getting worse.Concorde was supported by 2 countrues.Once france gave up,it died.
@Lvieru96 Facts are facts; their origins matter not. And it appears you need to hear them - as it appears you do not know or accept them. What you are voicing is a popular opinion (popular apparently amongst Russians and anti-Westerners, malcontents, etc.) "Everyone is entitled to his own opinion, but not his own facts." - Daniel Patrick Moynihan.
I was there and the mirage was nowhere near, the port canard broke off in a tight turn and he nosedived, stress broke the fuselage, I watched it all through my binoculars 2 or 3 km from goussinville at the end of the runway at le bourget, no mirage was near
Dgl44... so NASA didnt have anything to do with this plane then? Search for NASA Tu144... im pretty sure I see NASA and boeing (amougst others) stickered on the side.
The original TU-144 was Russian only. The TU-145 was the one that the U.S and NASA where involved with. Same aircraft, just different number. It also retained the TU-144 designation on the outside of the aircraft I believe. Most of the footage you will see of the TU-144 was that aircraft.
There was a french Mirage fighter above the Tu-144 trying to take close photos of the canards, but the pilot didn't knew, and when he saw the Mirage above him, he performed a maneouver to avoid a crash with the Mirage, this produced a engine to stall, and as the pilot tried to restart the engines, the plane suffered structural failures and finally crashing.
Here's why: "The cause of this accident is now thought to be due to changes made by the ground engineering team to the auto-stabilisation input controls prior to the second day of display flights. These changes were intended to allow the Tu-144 to outperform Concorde in the display circuit. Unfortunately, the changes also inadvertently connected some factory-test wiring which resulted in an excessive rate of climb, leading to the stall and subsequent crash." Bob Hoover's testimony substantiates.
Some aviation experts who were at the show, now who work for Air International, saw a mirage 3 dash across the path of the TU-144, may (or maybe not) have caused the crew to perform a violent pitch-up...
To Jed118 ok mr. kaputnik or mr. two by four and asphalt shingles. You know less then nothing, sometimes wikipedia is helpful, sometimes is bias. Tu-144 outperformed Concord in every aspect, regardles of afterburners. Afterburner was invented by Mikoyan/Gurevich in 1961Design Office, and Sukhoyan. First space shutle was invented and designed by S. Korolev as ESCAPE VEHICLE FROM SPACE STATION MIR. It should safely bring the crew back to Earth gliding through the space and atmsphere.
Trying to pull out of the subsequent dive, the plane broke up and crashed, destroying 15 houses and killing all six on board and eight on the ground. Wikipedia
May they RIP.
The pilot was trying to awoid collision with Mirage, purposely pretending the collision course and forcing the Tu-144 into tragic maneuver. Thats how Concorde won the market, not for long though, heh..hehe
all crew (6 souls including project deputy head constructor) died
cause of accident is still unknown, the primary lead - violent maneuver which ТУ-144's crew had to execute to avoid collision with suddenly appeared french jet figther 'Mirage' (its pilot's mission was to take photos of soviet plane)
IT WAS THE OTHER WAY AROUND, INCOMPLITE DESIGN WAS STOLEN FROM TUPOLEV OFFICE, THAN PATCHED BY WEST EUROPEAN GENUSES, HEH... LOCATION OF ENGINES IS MUCH BETTER AT TU-144, SOUND BARIER WAS EASLY REACHED BY TU-144 AN 15 JULY 1969, CONCORDE DID IT ONE AND A HALF YEAR LATER AN 4 NOVEMBER 1970.
BEAR IN MIND, FIRST AIRPLANE WAS DESIGN, CONSTRUCTED, AND FLOWN IN SUMMER OF 1855, BY ALEKSANDER MOYSHAYSKY IN ST. PETERSBURG, RUSSIA.
Sure, which is why Concorde didn't have to use its afterburners ALL THE TIME and had a much larger range.
Russians rip everything off, and then build piss poor replicas of it, from LADA to Elektrolux (Polish, but still executed poorly due to Commies' natural limitations)
Some plans of the Concorde were stolen, but they were not even close to enough to create a functioning aircraft. If you look closely, you can see many differences between the two. eg:
The report states different. He overstressed the aircraft to create a more impressive display, and the airflow he caused created the engines to flame out and the wings to break up.

middsteve 1 year ago
The Russians have designed some fantastic aircraft in their own right, but they are also most excellent at copies .For example the U.S. B-29,the space shuttle and the Concorde.
middsteve 1 year ago
the aircraft made from those aircraft are b-29 into T-4, space shuttle into orion class orbitors, and concorde into tu-144
corymike1990 1 year ago
Thanks, but only the bomber was a copy (Tu-4 = B-29). The Russian space shuttle program only had a similar looking orbiter, and Tu-144, though it had many common traits with the Concorde, cruised on afterburners (which was a bad idea from the point of fuel economy: 68 rubles for Moscow - Alma-Ata ticket compared to usual 48 rubles limited the plane's popularity) and had canards (which made it safer during landings)
aleclitvinov 1 year ago
The manvouvers they attempted were not approved or ever done before. This was following Concordes fantastic display previously. The russians built this with large metal plates rahter than the conventional small ones. With nowhere to stop, fatigue caused massive cracsk which would bring the bird down. Beautiful looking aircraft but rushed into production.
BigSeanP 1 year ago
Russians stole blueprints of the Concorde, and then rushed to get their half-assed "Concordski" in the air before the British and French could get their legitimate program going....aaaaaaand that's why this crash happened, because the Tu-144 was a piece of junk. The end.

"How do you know that it wasn't the British and French that stole the Russian research?"
lol you wish... Dude if they stole it, how could the TU-144 been a complete failure to the Concorde then?
WaerzMedia09 1 year ago

The Paris Crash was due to a strip of metal that came off of a Continental Airlines DC-10. true, but it flew too early due to the competition between the Soviet and the west..

The french admitted to the miragecovertly taking pics
quattro610 2 years ago 18
@quattro610 As a matter of fact TU144 was crased to the ground on purpose of the west. The human mankind will have on plane faster than TU144. As a matter of fact the destruction of the TU144 fleet was THE FIRST condition imposed by the Bush senior satanic-himself to Misha Gorby.
alfred963 1 year ago

Lvieru96 11 months ago
@Lvieru96 Which of my claims do you refute? That the -144 was a piece of crap is well documented by its many failures and quick departure from the skies after a very brief period (55 flights) of commercial passenger service. It is well-documented Tupolev had to approve each passenger flight personally. And the official crash report on the Paris Air Show incident reveals the pilot overstressed the plane; your conspiracy theories hold no water. The facts speak for themselves...
beeroosterm 11 months ago
@beeroosterm
Lvieru96 11 months ago
@Lvieru96 Facts are facts; their origins matter not. And it appears you need to hear them - as it appears you do not know or accept them. What you are voicing is a popular opinion (popular apparently amongst Russians and anti-Westerners, malcontents, etc.) "Everyone is entitled to his own opinion, but not his own facts." - Daniel Patrick Moynihan.

The original TU-144 was Russian only. The TU-145 was the one that the U.S and NASA where involved with. Same aircraft, just different number. It also retained the TU-144 designation on the outside of the aircraft I believe. Most of the footage you will see of the TU-144 was that aircraft.

There was a french Mirage fighter above the Tu-144 trying to take close photos of the canards, but the pilot didn't knew, and when he saw the Mirage above him, he performed a maneouver to avoid a crash with the Mirage, this produced a engine to stall, and as the pilot tried to restart the engines, the plane suffered structural failures and finally crashing.
themagicayrtonsenna 2 years ago 3
WRONG!!
b1cc2 2 years ago
WTF???
Why???
themagicayrtonsenna 2 years ago
Here's why: "The cause of this accident is now thought to be due to changes made by the ground engineering team to the auto-stabilisation input controls prior to the second day of display flights. These changes were intended to allow the Tu-144 to outperform Concorde in the display circuit. Unfortunately, the changes also inadvertently connected some factory-test wiring which resulted in an excessive rate of climb, leading to the stall and subsequent crash." Bob Hoover's testimony substantiates.

Some aviation experts who were at the show, now who work for Air International, saw a mirage 3 dash across the path of the TU-144, may (or maybe not) have caused the crew to perform a violent pitch-up...
peghere 2 years ago
To Jed118 ok mr. kaputnik or mr. two by four and asphalt shingles. You know less then nothing, sometimes wikipedia is helpful, sometimes is bias. Tu-144 outperformed Concord in every aspect, regardles of afterburners. Afterburner was invented by Mikoyan/Gurevich in 1961Design Office, and Sukhoyan. First space shutle was invented and designed by S. Korolev as ESCAPE VEHICLE FROM SPACE STATION MIR. It should safely bring the crew back to Earth gliding through the space and atmsphere.

what happened and did the crew bail out?
phonix032 2 years ago

Beskidekk 3 years ago 2
True, the TU-144 was a develpment of the Sukhoi T-4 'Sotka'
AlphaHydroxyAcid 3 years ago
Sure, which is why Concorde didn't have to use its afterburners ALL THE TIME and had a much larger range.
Russians rip everything off, and then build piss poor replicas of it, from LADA to Elektrolux (Polish, but still executed poorly due to Commies' natural limitations)
Ever heard of the "Buran"?
Jed118 2 years ago 2
Tu-144 copied this, Tu-144 copied that blah blah.
Some plans of the Concorde were stolen, but they were not even close to enough to create a functioning aircraft. If you look closely, you can see many differences between the two. eg:
1. The landing gear
2. The engine layout
3. The wings and the canards
4. The cockpit
5. The nose
6. And many other things I can't even name.
AlphaHydroxyAcid 3 years ago 2
anybody know what caused the crash? looks like some sort of mechanical failure

The pilot overstressed the airframe.
britishagentTV 3 years ago
Because he had to make an emergency descend to avoid a collision with another aircraft that entered its airspace without permission.
streetstream 2 years ago
The report states different. He overstressed the aircraft to create a more impressive display, and the airflow he caused created the engines to flame out and the wings to break up.
