Great video by I wish the cameraman would have focused the camera on John Taylor`s fingering on the bass at 3:00 minutes cuz he really ROCKS the bass there! :D
Did you see John Taylor say he was bored at 2:47 You have to be shitting me! Right? If you are bored in front of 50,000 screaming fans there is something wrong with you. He probably tells his wife just as he is about to cum that "He's bored". How arrogant!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I Just don't understand why music today so terrible, especially with all the awesome ideas for music from the 80's like Duran Duran, u2, The Cure etc...... has contributed. Man it's so unfortunate.
The filming/editing in "As the Lights Go Down" were great. Those guys deserve some kind of award. They knew how to amp up or down the energy for each song.
Actually, he's a student of Bernard Edwards, the late bassist for the R&B group, Chic. Edwards produced John Taylor's other band, The Power Station. Legend has it that Edwards willed his favorite Fender Jazz Bass to John Taylor...PEACE.
Anyone else see the person get sacked at 1:04 as i think she goes to, again guessing, hug the lead guitarist. and she almost successeded. then the guard.
yeah lol 2 girls run up on the stage one goes to hug john taylor and one to hug simon lol corrr there brave for running up there they probaly got thrown out or summin there lucky though lol
When he says that, it is during the bridge part of the song which is much more mild for the bass player. The rest of the song he is flying on that bass.
I do wish they had produced this video a little less and given us more of the raw video.
Yesss they do i just saw them for them for the first time ever i waited since i was little and let me tell you i would wait a lifetime they are amazing !!!
If you're a working drummer covering this song, don't make the mistake I made and get stuck doing the backing vocals -- it's a nightmare on this track. Lived through it, but it's a breathless experience, and I notice they didn't make their drummer sing at this tempo.
Haha! I hear ya... The bass line is a chore during those sections as well. Needless to say, we played this song early in the first set so I could still walk off stage as opposed to falling off of it.
Great concert! I was 14 at the time, but I remember it like it was yesterday! Great sound, I also remember it being very loud! I actually met the band in 2003 in Chicago and got to hang with them for a few hours. That was a blast!
I saw them in March '84 in Florida. We expected them to sound like they did on their albums. They didn't, but we loved them so much, who cared? You knew the words to every song they performed, and you screamed and danced along with them. I'll never forget at one point, John was walking backward, and Andy was too - toward each other. They almost bumped right into each other from behind!! Then there were all the "lookalikes" in the audience. It was a total blast - A fun night!
i became a bass player thanks to duran duran...i started in orchestra 1985 i wanted to start in 83 but there were no programes for 10 year olds at the time so i had to wait 2 years..im now 34 and there isnt a duran duran song i cant play..i still love this stuff
Glad to know that. John Taylor is a fantastic bassist! Are you in a band at the moment?
I also play the bass but unlike you, I started to play just about 11 months back (so you can imagine my level). Before that, I used to play the keyboard for a long time. With me, it was The Cure's songs that provided the initial spark of inspiration to play the bass. So, I am thankful to Simon Gallup and Robert Smith.
no im not in a band..and i think it has to do with geography more than anything else..i live outside cleveland ohio, when i read on myspace bassit wanted its usually for some screaming band..there is noting wrong with your "leval" we all have to start some where in life, when i started i was overwhlemd by things..just relax you will eventually get the hang of things, ill give u alot of credit for your inffluences..lets go to bed from the cure is my favorite bassline from them..keep in touch! d
Thanks a lot! I appreciate that. You are right- everyone needs to start somewhere. I think I picked up the bass at the right moment because I had that strong urge to actually play one than just for the sake of proving something. That is not to say that I am any good but I have a passion for it.
Yes, 'Let's Go to Bed' has got really awesome bass lines! In fact, The Cure's whole 'Japanese Whispers' album has got really catchy bass lines (though they are really hard to play for a beginner).
Solid heydey performance but disappointing on Andy Taylor's part. He totally eschewed the great guitar lines on the LP version for simple chording. Yawn. Warren's a much better guitarist!
yeah it does ..weird, maybe just trying something different and was a bad idea, never heard him fuck around on that section before or after that though :)
The bass in the sax solo sounds totally different you idiot, if you cannot hear the contrast between this version and the usual way he plays it then you must be the one who is deaf.

they play this song on the radio where i work every day and ive always hated it. out of curiousity i watched this video just playing around on youtube. my perception has changed. this is an 80's nugget. there isnt much great that came out of the 80's but this is decent.
This concert was performed in Oakland, California at the end of they're 1984 North American Tour. Fuckin great times. I saw them here in Toronto, Canada on the same tour in 1984.
I could tell you but it was soooo long ago. They were very energetic and Ive heard some say that they dont play they're songs like they do on the albums, but its OK because if I want to hear DD on a CD, I can do it any time. For me, to hear Rio, or Wild Boys in a different way, is cool. Good stage presence but not rehearsed though. They are all natural entertainers, not like those twits these days. "Robot Performers" like Backstreet Boys, or Spears, or Timberlake just aren't the same to me.
Oooooh! Thanks for posting that. We used to have a ball at their concerts year ago. I swear that do-do-do-do-do-do at the fade out was way overly addictive. And John was a hottie.
Did the camermen forget Nick was in the band or something?

they play this song on the radio where i work every day and ive always hated it. out of curiousity i watched this video just playing around on youtube. my perception has changed. this is an 80's nugget. there isnt much great that came out of the 80's but this is decent.

Where was this concert - Maracana? Does anyone remember? Well, at least he wasn't lip-synching. Nice performance of one of my favorite songs.

This concert was performed in Oakland, California at the end of they're 1984 North American Tour. Fuckin great times. I saw them here in Toronto, Canada on the same tour in 1984.

Did you see them in Maple Leaf Garden? Can you tell about the concert? Please!!
