  • Did the camermen forget Nick was in the band or something?

  • Great video by I wish the cameraman would have focused the camera on John Taylor`s fingering on the bass at 3:00 minutes cuz he really ROCKS the bass there! :D

  • John Taylor ROCKS on the bass here! I miss these guys!! :D

  • . the way he does the high pitch "your the BEST" "on TV" is so cool. I just shout out the lyrics just like this live version.

  • their hair is so coooool

  • Watched them last night in Baton Rouge they were great! Brought back old memories.

    Great show!

  • Very very good musicians

  • seeing them in concert in 3 weeks

  • The rest of us were at the Van Halen concert.

  • I REALLY HOPE DURAN DURAN CAN BE INDUCTED INTO THE "ROCK-N-ROLL HALL OF FAME" SOMEDAY

  • I miss the 80's, though I haven't been born yet :X

  • Fuck me Roger Taylor is a brilliant drummer, his drumming is very fast and energetic yet still has a nice laid back feel to it.

  • PLEASE COME TO SERBIA AGAIN!!! Please, please... We don't want Rihanna, Bieber and co.

  • what a great live performance. this dudes rocked the house that night.pure classic.

  • Cool Tune.

  • the other 8 people has been taken by justin bieber

  • what's with the balloons????

  • haha 80's video editing how silly :) but that show looked epic

  • Dammit Simon! Don't change the rhythm of the lyrics!

  • I'm really surprised by how well they sound when performing live! Oh, and by the way, they are all 'business in the front and party in the back'.

  • John Taylor... much love :D

  • Roger is cool!

  • Omg I love Duran Duran, Simons gorgeous x

  • Hard working band

  • Best song forever!!

  • Watchhing them jump around and stuff makes me giggle like a little 4th grader:)

  • Did you see John Taylor say he was bored at 2:47 You have to be shitting me! Right? If you are bored in front of 50,000 screaming fans there is something wrong with you. He probably tells his wife just as he is about to cum that "He's bored". How arrogant!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @blabblab1212 Not to mention playing that sweet ass bassline...

  • I Just don't understand why music today so terrible, especially with all the awesome ideas for music from the 80's like Duran Duran, u2, The Cure etc...... has contributed. Man it's so unfortunate.

  • @slyvester117 You forgot alot of other artist...

  • Yeah, Great Bass Line. John Taylor Is way underrated. The Bass groove drives the entire song.

  • @jamo387 - Yeah, great bassline ... but who's the REAL bass player ???

JT is only acting of course ...

  • @pit2ryan3 it's the problem of post-production and bad editing of the footage :)

  • One of the bands that *defined* the '80s, which as far as i'm concerned was the best decade i've been alive in.

  • 2:45 best sax solo ever!!

  • I was at this concert. in LA.

  • The 80's kicked ass. They stand alone for sure.

  • Awesome bassline !

  • Best Live EVEEEEERRRRRR

  • The filming/editing in "As the Lights Go Down" were great. Those guys deserve some kind of award. They knew how to amp up or down the energy for each song.

  • I'm looking after my Rio.

  • The best live version of Rio is this, tour 84

  • Killer bassline!

  • @doubledragtap

best ever... that, money and down on the corner :))

  • @doubledragtap and who plays it!!!!!

  • notice the fan invasion at 1:06 - 1:10

  • this is some good shit right here.

  • Excelente

  • no its the keyboardist,sorry

  • nope, none of them are

  • one or the other,idk

  • Fatmankiller, they are all straight and married.

  • I want to change my name to Rio now

  • Gosh!!!! Those were the days. Scary!!!!!

  • her name is Rio and she doesnt need to understand

  • it's her name is rio, she don't need to understand.

  • DURAN DURAN I N C R E I B L E !!!!!!!!!!

  • simon always used to put on the greatest show with his sligh moves-those concerts rocked!

  • it grate

  • duran duran are a great band but were

unfortunately tarnished with a girly image.

Its not their fault the masses of females loved them

  • man the synch on the audio with the video is terrible. But fuck doesnt Duran Duran kick ass?

  • They should put this out on dvd!!!!!!!

  • have they still got this line up????

  • I still love Duruan Duran!

  • John Taylor is a Bass god.

  • He's near Geddy Lee in terms of masters of bass.

  • Actually, he's a student of Bernard Edwards, the late bassist for the R&B group, Chic. Edwards produced John Taylor's other band, The Power Station. Legend has it that Edwards willed his favorite Fender Jazz Bass to John Taylor...PEACE.

  • wow...I never would have thought that. Not that I know about great bass players and have been a Rush fan (HUGE) and Duran Duran fan almost 30 years.

  • Das beste lied von Simon und co..I LOVE IT..

  • This was the 80's. A lot of people looked that way back then. Duran Duran, Depeche Mode, Tears for Fears. But in the end, they were always the best.

  • looks have to be looked at in perspective of the era ;-)

  • Merveilleux!!!!

  • simon es hermoso!!!!!!!!!!!!!lo amo!!!!!!!

  • lol did you see the kid get tackled by the cop at 1:09

  • una gran gran canción! debe haber sido increible estar ahí en ese momento.

y tocan demasiado bien en vivo!!!

    ojalá vuelvan a Chile pronto.....

  • I watch this mtv on rpn 9 in the

    philippines. Is amazing

  • I hope Rio is included on

Rockband 1 on the playstation 3.

I never buy it until now :(

  • Great song and band!

  • "and I've seen YOU on TEE VEE!"

No, you haven't Simon, but thanks.

    :D :P

  • Me encanta Simon,lo amo!!!

  • Good thing Simon decided to stop dancing after 2000, hes a monster tho, the best move was during reflex in between the columns. Simon FTW

  • Anyone else see the person get sacked at 1:04 as i think she goes to, again guessing, hug the lead guitarist. and she almost successeded. then the guard.

  • yeah lol 2 girls run up on the stage one goes to hug john taylor and one to hug simon lol corrr there brave for running up there they probaly got thrown out or summin there lucky though lol

  • Awesome band, and they're like - 12 years old ;)

Wow - most musicians can't play like these guys no matter how experienced they are.

Very talented, and the girls might even like 'em.

  • actually i think he does say im bored coz he does loook it lol!

  • omg it does look like he says im bored lol

but then i think he might be saying ball or summin? coz that is when the ball comes

lol i cant beleive he wud say he is bored lmao!

  • My take on the "I'm Bored" comment.

When he says that, it is during the bridge part of the song which is much more mild for the bass player. The rest of the song he is flying on that bass.

I do wish they had produced this video a little less and given us more of the raw video.

    Great song though.

  • love em or hate em...they wont be around that much longer.....rejoice in this classic band..who always gave all they had to give live...

  • I think John does say im bored. lol

  • I think so too!!!!!!!!

  • lol when the ball hits john on the head at 1:22 lol

  • duran duran always puts on one heck of a show

  • Yesss they do i just saw them for them for the first time ever i waited since i was little and let me tell you i would wait a lifetime they are amazing !!!

  • at 2:45 it looks like john is mouthing that he is bored..lol

  • Great catch. It does look exactly like he says he's bored. Too funny.

  • If you're a working drummer covering this song, don't make the mistake I made and get stuck doing the backing vocals -- it's a nightmare on this track. Lived through it, but it's a breathless experience, and I notice they didn't make their drummer sing at this tempo.

  • Haha! I hear ya... The bass line is a chore during those sections as well. Needless to say, we played this song early in the first set so I could still walk off stage as opposed to falling off of it.

  • Great video! John and Nick were so dreamy... ahh the good ol' days...

  • No close up of nick playing keyboards????????

    :(

  • Very 80's..

  • I love John in that outfit.

  • Did anyone of you see them on 1984 during the Sing Blue Silver tour?

  • Yes, I saw them at Madison Square Garden in March of 1984. Great show!!!

  • pLEASE, CAN YOU DESCRIBE ME THE CONCERT?

wERE YOU IN FRONT OF THEM?

    tELL ME!!!

  • Great concert! I was 14 at the time, but I remember it like it was yesterday! Great sound, I also remember it being very loud! I actually met the band in 2003 in Chicago and got to hang with them for a few hours. That was a blast!

  • hOW WAS nEW yORk in the 80's?

    Did you live there?

Did the girls scream a lot during the concert?

Did you arrive very soon to see the concert?

  • I saw them in March '84 in Florida. We expected them to sound like they did on their albums. They didn't, but we loved them so much, who cared? You knew the words to every song they performed, and you screamed and danced along with them. I'll never forget at one point, John was walking backward, and Andy was too - toward each other. They almost bumped right into each other from behind!! Then there were all the "lookalikes" in the audience. It was a total blast - A fun night!

  • In which town did you see them?

  • My altime favorit band. I LOVE YOU!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Great performance by Duran Duran! Lovely clip!

  • This song is another masterpiece of DURAN DURAN and the awesome '80's music. nothing can be compared with this music.

  • 3:25-3:57 sounds hot, I love the way he sings it, not bad at all. It just does it.

  • Wow.. He actually sings pretty well, very uch like the original song :P

  • i became a bass player thanks to duran duran...i started in orchestra 1985 i wanted to start in 83 but there were no programes for 10 year olds at the time so i had to wait 2 years..im now 34 and there isnt a duran duran song i cant play..i still love this stuff

    D

  • Glad to know that. John Taylor is a fantastic bassist! Are you in a band at the moment?

I also play the bass but unlike you, I started to play just about 11 months back (so you can imagine my level). Before that, I used to play the keyboard for a long time. With me, it was The Cure's songs that provided the initial spark of inspiration to play the bass. So, I am thankful to Simon Gallup and Robert Smith.

  • no im not in a band..and i think it has to do with geography more than anything else..i live outside cleveland ohio, when i read on myspace bassit wanted its usually for some screaming band..there is noting wrong with your "leval" we all have to start some where in life, when i started i was overwhlemd by things..just relax you will eventually get the hang of things, ill give u alot of credit for your inffluences..lets go to bed from the cure is my favorite bassline from them..keep in touch! d

  • Thanks a lot! I appreciate that. You are right- everyone needs to start somewhere. I think I picked up the bass at the right moment because I had that strong urge to actually play one than just for the sake of proving something. That is not to say that I am any good but I have a passion for it.

Yes, 'Let's Go to Bed' has got really awesome bass lines! In fact, The Cure's whole 'Japanese Whispers' album has got really catchy bass lines (though they are really hard to play for a beginner).

  • lol Kendra...it does look like im bored lmao...hes still hot

  • haha it did look like he mouthed the words im bored at 2:47.. lol

  • i agree with you candycane28

  • John Taylor is gorgeous!!

  • Very good bass

  • OH YESSSSSS!! RIO! Lol. :D

  • Great! But those balloons were blocking my lovely view of John.

  • I used to own this whole concert and the tape got messed up, thanks for the memories!

Anyone noticed that John looks like he is mouthing the words "I'm bored" in that one part? lol!

  • perfect song. fun fact: Rio means river in english.

  • 84 arena album's years..i was going to 3.class.like a thousand years.Duran Duran was my idol.oh hoo im growing..

  • hars!!on pastredh argentina ghrodes tyu pas ne trayekh salta city oprah oprah!!!.duran duran on tyu ne fruoth.fabian!!!!

  • Solid heydey performance but disappointing on Andy Taylor's part. He totally eschewed the great guitar lines on the LP version for simple chording. Yawn. Warren's a much better guitarist!

  • good video

  • Why does John fuck with the normal bass line during the sax solo, it sounds horrible!

  • yeah it does ..weird, maybe just trying something different and was a bad idea, never heard him fuck around on that section before or after that though :)

  • He plays pretty much the same... are you deaf?

  • The bass in the sax solo sounds totally different you idiot, if you cannot hear the contrast between this version and the usual way he plays it then you must be the one who is deaf.

  • Totally different? Only if by totally different you mean "pretty much the same". lol

  • i love the bass in this song...cool!

  • man look at that crowd! i wish i was there....

  • Great song and video. The bass lines are just fantastic in this song.

  • Great to see a live piece from so long ago. They were so cute back then. The studio version of this video is awesome, by the way. One of my all time favs.

  • badass song, especially the quick pace bass riffs

  • omg! at 0:50 for the first, time i see john ugly =X not actually ugly, but weird

    anyway, he's still gorgeous hahaha

  • John Taylor "ugly and weird"?! Never!

  • The one of the best DD songs - Rio here I come.

  • Duran Duran shaped the way i hear poetry in melodies.Effective hooks , British , breath taking , sexy bass playing , even haunting sometimes . clever use of non-diatonic chords .

  • Boy, that sure took me back! Thanks for putting it up here for us!

  • 1984 ROOOCKKKSS!

  • Great video. This was a pleasure to watch. I'm a newer Duran Duran fan, you could say, being fifteen.

I hope these guys get a concert in the UK soon. =)

  • u just started listening to duran duran?

  • Yeah, kinda. I've known them all my life though, but never been so into them, as I am now. XD

  • well my mom got me hooked on to them and i can't stop listening to them. What is your favorite song?

  • LOVE DURAN DURAN THEY WERE AWESOME!

  • What's with those fans bumrushing the stage and trying to get to Simon and John around 1:06? Was that faked for the show or was that for real?

  • I think it was faked, nobody could climb to the stage so easily.

  • i take it you never been to a dd show. especially at the height of the fame. their concerts were crazy. fans fainting, trying to get on stage, and even sneak backstage. its not fake, its the hysteria like this that caused ppl to compare them to the beatles.

  • No, i have never been, wish i could someday.

  • My friends the memories, I was born in 1975 (proper 80s child), my older sister taped the documentary off the telly that this concert featured in. If I watched that video once I watched it 100 times. I must buy the DVD immediately in order to happily wallow in days gone by, when my thoughts consisted of John Taylor, My Little Ponies and Pickled Onion Monster Munch 8)

    Thanks for the upload.

  • John Taylor is a sick bassist

  • Muito bommmmmmm !!!

  • I know how they were in the 80s. I loved them then and I love them now : )

  • duran duran has one of the best bass players of all time. that is some incredible skill, i am a music teacher, and their bassist jumps out to me in full force. what an amazing talented player

  • I am so glad you posted this. I am a long time guitarist of 33 yrs of age. i went over to the Bass side 2 years ago. John Taylor, Peter Hook, Andy Rourke, Carlos Dengler are my gods.

  • If you don't know Old Durans, You cannot conceive the positive energy that he 80's were giving: they were a sparkle of colour and radiance on show and videos! they pioneered so much, but underestimated as Artists because of their attractive looks! Music is about...music. Listen to the old Durans if you want to feel the 80's, guys! Mz.x

  • I hear you. I was born in 1974 so I came up in the 80s and desite Thatcher & Reagan it was a positive era for pop culture...today we have shit....maybe Intrepol?

I am a big Joy Division/N.O. and Smiths fan btw

  • What a closet Duran Duran fan was I in the 80s.

John Taylor is 1 badass bass player..

  • I wish I was alive in the 80s!

  • incredible performance! lots of energy on the stage, and i loved the "1,2,3,4"! that simon shout...he is so hot!

  • they play this song on the radio where i work every day and ive always hated it. out of curiousity i watched this video just playing around on youtube. my perception has changed. this is an 80's nugget. there isnt much great that came out of the 80's but this is decent.

  • What I'd yell to the keyboardist would be "PLAY THOSE FLIPPING KEYBOARDS, NICK!!"

  • just listen to this once more and focus on the bass line, especially in the reffrain!PLAY THAT FUCKING BASS,JOHN!!!and simon is so...so...

  • Where was this concert - Maracana? Does anyone remember? Well, at least he wasn't lip-synching. Nice performance of one of my favorite songs.

  • This concert was performed in Oakland, California at the end of they're 1984 North American Tour. Fuckin great times. I saw them here in Toronto, Canada on the same tour in 1984.

  • Did you see them in Maple Leaf Garden? Can you tell about the concert? Please!!

  • I could tell you but it was soooo long ago. They were very energetic and Ive heard some say that they dont play they're songs like they do on the albums, but its OK because if I want to hear DD on a CD, I can do it any time. For me, to hear Rio, or Wild Boys in a different way, is cool. Good stage presence but not rehearsed though. They are all natural entertainers, not like those twits these days. "Robot Performers" like Backstreet Boys, or Spears, or Timberlake just aren't the same to me.

  • Were you at Maple Leaf Garden? The same of the video The Reflex?

Please, tell me about Simon, were you in front of him?

  • This aired on MTV one time in 1985...amazing but lost concert film!! Release this you guys!!

  • Oooooh! Thanks for posting that. We used to have a ball at their concerts year ago. I swear that do-do-do-do-do-do at the fade out was way overly addictive. And John was a hottie.

  • rock in rio!!!
