  • Flapjacks

  • Your awesome!!!! When you put those two together why they make that sound . Loos like there going to fight?

  • bad guinea pig owner you are the worst person i have ever seen on youtube you dumbass

  • Thank you! This was very helpful!!

  • Really good video about guinea pigs

  • I have two male teddy bear guinea pigs (real ones not toys I mean) and when I try to pick them up, they run away yet they love a good cuddle, is this normal? If not, how can I stop it?

  • @Clubpenguin2813 Guinea pigs are eaten by larger animals and you need to convince them that you are safe. I try not to chase them around their cage but instead reach in quickly and scoop them out and then hold them securely against my chest.Try talking calmly to them and even feed them treats like a little piece of Kale while you are holding them and they will learn to feel good when they hear you coming.

  • guinea pigs should never be in glass cages! When I first wached this video I did not even have a guinea pig, and I new this video was incorrect!

  • @animallover8320 They do fine in an aquarium at least 24 inches long. Because it is glass, I can get it clean and then there is no odor.

  • *Rex coat not 'teddy bear'

  • HELP! my piggy has 5 toes IM NOT joking it has 4 normal ones and a 5th one is growing under the paw!!! :(

  • @MegaNFScarbon Please look carefully at your extra toe. Guinea Pigs have 3 toes on the rear feet and 4 on the front. However they often have a callous like buildup on the bottom of the front foot that resembles an extra toe. It's just dead skin and I carefully trim it off when I am trimming toenails. If you are unsure, have a Veterinarian check it.Congratulations on being so observant.

  • @animalexchange1 i looked more carefully and its not a toe but a Nail, and i found out that that's actualy normal but rare!

  • @MegaNFScarbon its an alien, just give it what it wants and make sure it has no reason to take over our planet, regards

  • and yes a little pennis plz watch my videos

  • guinea pigs cant have dairy products even those yogurt drops, they may say they are for guinea pigs but they could cause your guinea pigs pain ;) just letting you know...

  • cute pigs. i have 2 females. if you want to see them go to my channel

  • Why was she in that box?

  • So cute

  • guinea pig's are so sweet

  • And yes there is a little penis

  • yeah coz there not going to mate , are they ?

  • I'm getting a girl guinea pig friday she is only 3 and a half months old!!!!!!!!

  • Comment removed

  • lol

  • @TheCavySlave The reason why it is important of knowing how much its cost is to make sure you have enough to buy it and make sure you have enough for a cage and food etc... so knowing how much it cost is one of the most important ting you should know before buying a pet.

  • @TheCavySlave wah wah wah.

  • @TheCavySlave Wah, wah, wah.

  • I had a guinea pig that climbed out of his wire cage.

  • I love guinea pigs

I have 6 guinea pigs at home

  • I bought drops to put in my guinea pigs water I also give her Dandelion flowers and leaves is this enough Vitamin C for her? I only got her a week ago she is still a baby. I am worried about her not getting enough Vitamin C.

  • @bethygal83 The best source for vit C is a high quality fresh Guinea Pig food. We use Oxbow which makes diets specific for baby and adult guinea pigs. Dandelions are great too.

  • u all need 2 chill guinea pigs are fine for young kids with the help of adults.....but aquariums are a terrible idea

  • Ok so u r telling us to keep them in fish tanks and boxes, and to breed them… way to go

  • When I bought my guinea pigs from the pet store they were in fish tank type containers.

They live in a cage now, but if it was so bad I don't think the pet store would allow it... right?

  • @DigiCamcorder You are quite right and I hope it was my pet store that you are referring to. The tanks we use have a number of advantages: no drafts, easily cleaned and sanitized, easy to see while difficult to poke little fingers into, food and water supplies clearly visible. These tanks have had no disadvantages for the last 32 years other than an occasional crack from careless handling.

  • i had hamsters when i was like 11 and up and i dont think that it is all the childrens fault for the way an animal is taken care of it is also the parents responsibility to help the children learn how to take care of an animal and help them.

  • who r u

  • They are soooooooooo cute I'm getting one soon!!!

  • some people are saying that guinea pigs are mostly for older children i just have a question im 12 and i want to get a guinea pig but should i wait until im older or get one sometime around now?

  • @pugluv1324 You are not only old enough for a guinea pig, your thoughtful question makes it clear you are also wise enough to be a good owner. Go for it.

  • @pugluv1324 hmm. well if you want guinea pigs badly. why don't have one today. I'm also 12, I bought my guinea pig when I wa 11 from our field trip. I have 5 now actually. My mommy guinea pig just gave birth to 3 girl piggies just this march..

  • @Ranchangal19 aww thats cute and nice (not being sarcastic) but i just want to make sure i was right for a guinea pig but congrats to your guinea pig

  • i had a Guinea Pig in grade two and i LOVED my little piggy shed lived for 6 years and died knowning i loved her with all my heart. aside from that i think a Guinea pig is a good pet for some kids who are inerrested in having an animal cause it teachs you lots of stuff. but thats just me.

  • Alot of people had some comments that were not called for as well as good concerns. I just wanted to tell people that there is more than one angle to a story.

  • Last of all, as for the health of the pigs, they dont seem to be unhappy.

They look well fed and happy, and she seems to know what she is talking about.

Alot of you that have negative comments seem to be going off personal knowledge which is good. But alot of it seems like raw emotion.

Maybe you guys should step back and ask questions before you pass judgement.

  • Also, remember that places like the humane society and pet shops have a bottom line. They get paid. What do you think they will do to the guinea pigs if they dont sell? They get destroyed. So rather than get it from them and feel forced into it because it might be the animals last chance, I'd rather buy it from some one who knows the aimal, and will keep it till it finds a home.

  • Did anyone ever stop to think that maybe the pig is in the tank temporarily?

Also I agree with not giving guinea pigs to young children, but I also think that that depends on the child. Ultimately it is up to the parent to correctly judge if their child can properly care for the animal. Unfortunatly some parents dont.

As for breeding them, I dont see a problem with so long as the mothers are properly cared for and their babies are properly homed.

  • @MothersLuv861 Thank you for your comments. If you are in the Rockville Maryland area and are interested in working at Animal Exchange, call me. We try to be as open minded as possible and you certainly care as much about the animals as we do.

  • @animalexchange1 .

Thank you for your offer, but sadly I live in california.

I am looking to adopt a guinea pig as well, however the humane society and other places are expensive. And then they expect you to have all kinds of money for all kinds of stuff. Also alot of the animals there have abused.

While I am all for giving those animals a better life, for me and the children, that just isnt healthy right now.

How can my children learn to love something that veiws them as a threat?

  • you cant drop your guinea pig in its cage like that because it might get hert

    p.s very cute

  • Does anyone notice she pulls a Guinea Pig out of a Guinea Pig box? That made me lol.

  • i think thers sumthin wrong with my male guinea-pig charlie?? he has 6 toes on one of his back foot, 4 on his other back foot, 7 on his front paw nd 4 on the other paw

  • Did she just pull the guinea pig out the box

    ( lol) poor guinea pig

  • they dont climb out of their cages when in the background one is obvioulsy trying too

  • can guinea pigs eat chocolate cake ?

  • @zakaslam1 It's not something I would recommend.

  • It seems like the only thing you care about is getting more guinea pigs to sell :l

  • thank you very much for this video i have male guinea pig and i will get himmm a vife

  • shut up everybody who keeps saying its a small cage. SHE SAYS IT IS HERSELF. jeez.

  • I think they are fine for a kid, better than the larger rabbit, but I wouldn't say it was for anyone unattended whos under,.. 7.. and if the kid is a boy.. I'd say keep an eye on him until he's 14 lol. anyone seen G-force ( the animated film)?. that is why.

I have 7 guinea pigs. one of which I have bred from, I kept one of her babies, they were all lovely. =)

and here where I live there's only 1 shelter and they hardly ever have any guinea pigs.

  • I like lesson here.

  • thank

  • Question: How many times do guinea pigs can be pregnant in a year? Is it safe that guinea pigs always pregnant? How many months should be its interval? Thanks! Pls help me

  • @jaileyamber Guinea pigs have a 2 monthe gestation period and they can get pregnant immediately after they deliver if there is a male in the cage with them. They will nurse the precocious babies for 2 weeks or more. I take the male out when the female is obviously pregnant and don't return him 'till the babies are gone and the female is looking good.

  • @animalexchange1 yeah wow, what a good deed! the U.S. is overcrowded by unwanted animals and you breed! there are so many organisations desperately trying to make an end to breeding and you make videos...jesus...get a job!

  • Actually guinea pigs are not that good for little children because they are really fragile animals and little children often are to rought.

  • it is not too hot to have guinea pigs in a glass cage

  • @rbp309 Guinea pigs do fine in an aquarium. I never leave it in direct sunshine so there is no reason for it to get too hot.

  • I have a diabetic piggy with seizures and respiratory issues he is 10months old and we have to change him every day we use carefresh and its not cheap, have you ever used fleece bedding before? I love him dearly, but carefresh combined with regular vet visits are tad expensive so i thought fleece might be a good option to help cut cost.

  • as a first timer... should i get a male or female.. id rather have male.. due to the female having her period :S

  • @Kikyo361 Either sex is fine. Female Guinea Pigs do not get a period.

  • @animalexchange1 really they don't get thier period.. werid O_o

  • @Kikyo361 check local shelters and rescues lot of pets in need of a good home i prefer male but thats just me. one thing to rember is males have a greese gland that some times needs regular cleaning depending on the male. I clean my males bum about every other month or as needed.

  • Wow you have ALOT of animals :p

  • HELLO!!! U NEVER put guineas in a glass tank!! They go blind!!!

  • @mousie4444 Sorry to disagree with you but in 40 years of housing guinea pigs in aquariums , hundreds and hundreds of guinea pigs,, the only blind one that I have seen was a baby that was born in a wire cage.

  • @mousie4444 We have never had one go blind and we always keep them in aquariums

  • you are just great with these animals - gentle and knowledgable

  • where did u get the guinea pig box with guinea pigs?

  • do you get you babies from actual breeders with proof or from puppy mills for guinea pigs and do you know more about breeding

  • @davidfernandes98 Our purpose when we opened in 1979 was to encourage local breeding of animals. We have almost everything that we sell coming mainly from customers most of whom have learned proper animal husbandry from us when they got their first pet. I could use a few more parakeet breeders. As far as "mills" are concerned, the legitimate trade cares where there animals come from and how they are. I recently saw statistics that 80% of "mill" animals sell to internet bargain hunters.

  • how old do guineas live?

  • @piewackit444 Guinea Pigs are good for 6-8 years although occasionally one gets to 10.

  • lol the teddy guinea pig is so chill lol its so layed back XD

  • that cage is way to small

  • Don't put them in a glass container!

  • what if i dont have vitamin c for my guinea pig what else can i give them thats in my kitchen that will substitute the vitamin c

  • @Ashymay3 the same things that you eat for vitamin C since you need it too.

  • what if i dont have vitamin c for guinea pigs what else can i give them that is in my kitchen that will sustitute vitamin c for the guinea pigs

  • actually it doesnt hurt them. they would screech if it hurt them and she has ALOT of pets and also knows how to treat them

but i dont understand why she keft it in a cardboard box

  • can you sex a 3 week old guinea pig to where you can see the penis petrude as easily as the older ones?

  • the white one is adorable!

  • i hav ea guinea pig they r so cute and cuddly i love em' my guinea pig is namesd nibbles

  • i named mine after timothy hay his names timothy and he was born witha mohawk

  • How can you recommend an aquarium (as well as other types of cages) as appropriate housing for a guinea pig? There is no ventillation in an aquarium and would heat up too quickly. Animal proctection societies would agree with me. Fish belong in aquariums not mammals.

  • Your right.

  • The only way an aquarium would over heat would be if you leave it in direct sun and have a solid top on it. We routinely use screen lids on our tanks and all the small mammals do fine - and I can really clean the cages so there is no odor.

  • @MrsYobiePants You can. I keep my gerbil in one too. Aquariums don't need tops.

  • Comment removed

  • is your "cage" for that guinea pig a box?!

  • @Chris0makes0movies I surely hope it isn't. That would be very cruel if it were true.

  • i have got two guinea pigs, one is 6 months and i know that it is a female. But i have another one that is 6 weeks old and i think she's a female but because she/he is so young, will the penis stick out when she's older if she's a boy? also ppl say that if my 6 month old guinea gets pregnant, the babies will die, is this true?

  • Because guinea pig babies are relatively large, it is best to breed females by 6months so their bones are still flexible enough to deliver them. If you apply gentle pressure , a little male guinea pig will be obvious. If you only see a slit, it's a girl.

  • hey animal exchange wat du u prefer me to buy a guinea pig or a hamster???ppl says guinea pig.....wat du u say mister?

  • i refer a guinea pig because they live longer and i have one so i no

  • Guinea pigs are most appropriate for older teens and adults. They are definitely not for young children.

Also, breeding is a detrimental practice that only adds to the ever increasing population of unloved and abused animals that are already in the world. I would not expect a breeder like you to care what happens to animals after you've profited off of them. But for everyone else, please visit your nearest Humane Society or animal shelter to see what I'm talking about.

    -Peace

  • I'm sorry that you feel the way you do since for 30 years we have had exceptionally good luck with young people who get appropriate equiptment and instruction with a guinea pig. Many of them breed them for us and we not only buy the babies from them, we rehome any that they cannot keep. Incidentally, we recently sold a young pig to a family for $29.00 when the Humane Society wanted $75.00 as an adoption fee for a 2 year old guinea pig.

  • @AnimalExchange I agree with you. I've been trying to get a guinea pig but the adoption agency gave me such a hassle that I've decided to go to a breeder or pet store.

  • @bitterblackberry I completely agree with you. Please do not encourage irresponsible breading. I do volunteer work with the humane society and I have seen the results of people who thought breeding would be a "fun" project.

  • @bitterblackberry huh im a kid (12) :P and im perfectly careful with em i love guinea pigs their adorable :D

  • @bitterblackberry i dont think they are for older teens and adults seeing that syrian HAMSTERS are suitable for older CHILDREN. guinea pigs are larger and more hardy than hamsters and they are easier to handle. your right i a way i cant describe though. :/

  • @bitterblackberry I'm sorry but I have to completely disagree with you. Guinea pigs are one of the most gentle, loving animals you could have as a pet. They rarely bite and they loved to be handled!

  • cool video

  • I bought my guinea pig at petco and I got him for thirty dollars but buying all of his other stuff it was like one hundred dollars.

  • i bought my guinea pig in pet shop for 2 dollars :)) u can come to Czech and buy as many as u want

  • Comment removed

  • Lol the guinea pigs is so fat n cute :)

  • i have yogurt drops but he only gets 1 every 1 week.

  • You do not have enough space to your guinea pigs :/. He seem to dig and look out constantly wich is a sign on that he want freedom.

  • you better have a different cage than that fish tank because first its way to small for even one guinea pig and second its a glass tank and it doesnt have a lot of ventilation. also why did you pull a guinea pig out of a box?

  • thats a way too small cage..

  • Well Duhh !

it's pretty obvious she just put the Guinea Pig in there for the Video !

it's not like it's going to stay there forever !

    Ughh.

  • i want that piggy. next weekend i am getting two males. i hope they are still at the petshop.

  • @AllySMProductions You may want to check out your area Humane Society too!

  • Also I see in your video that you recommend "Yogurt Drops" which should never be given to guinea pigs as they are lactose intolerant. Also tanks are not a good choice for cavies, not enough ventilation. C&C Cages are the best choice because cavies need a lot of space. You should also recommend spaying/neutering as there are many cavies in shelters and there is a 20% death rate for a pregnant sow.

  • Please read the previous comments relative to pregnancy and appropriate caging.

Yogurt drops are fine as a treat. They are not fed as a diet and the coating is a minor part.

Guinea pigs are relatively easy to keep separately and since they are not the easiest pet for a Vet. to operate on, it is unusual for me to suggest neutering them.

  • I agree, Yogurt Drops are terrible for them.

  • @SmallPetChannel boy, thank you for your comment! this woman really knows nothing about small animals! it's unbelievable! yoghurt drops???

  • You need to inform people about how Teddy-coated cavies have extremely sensitive skin and must be bathed every 1-2 months with Aloe shampoo to prevent severe irritation.

  • aww your quinea pig is sooo cute!!

  • I love Guinea Pigs wish I wasn't allegoric to them

  • i bought two guinea pigs two weeks and one gave birth

  • can you make more videos please. I'm trying to get as educated as i can get.

  • Sorry but we do not carry ferrets. How about a good book instead.

  • Can you do a video on ferrets please?

  • We have never had a problem with respiratory problems caused by a clean aquarium. Be sure to get any built up crusts out of the corners whenever you clean. There are many ways to keep any animal and you need to use what works for you.

  • i have two guineapigs and they fight because i had two witch were brothere and they were boys and sadly one died so we bought another guineapig because we thought that he woulg get lonely and now they are always fighting and i dont want to get gizmo who is the last brother stressed and upset gizmo is 2 years old and bubbles the new guineapig is a few months old .... how can i stop them from fighting :) ??

  • Time for separate cages.

  • i think they wont hav sex

  • Interestingly enough, our customers who have only one pig frequently have the oldest. In the wild, being part of a herd is some protection while in your home, multiples mean more cleaning.

  • do they bite

  • Yes, they can bite if they need to. It is very uncomon for guinea pigs to bite if they are properly handled.

  • Man the big one in the cage is doing everything in it's power to get the other one.

  • i was wondering do Guinea pig's make good pets??? my roommate/bff work during the day (9 to 6, but we have a hour lunch that we come home for) and i have always wanted one... Is it best to get one or two??

  • I think they are great pets. One is perfectly fine as a pet but often people get more than one. Just don't get more than you are willing to clean up after.

  • Comment removed

  • Did not say I disagreed with your idea of GP care. I agree. But how others choose to care for their animals in NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS. Unless major abuse is happening. And there is none.

What I DON'T agree with is bullies who think your way is the only way. And that you guys hunt for pages, videos, ads, to trash. Get a life!

  • I am not sure where you are getting your statistics but if you have that high a loss rate when breeding, you surely should stop. In over 30 years of keeping guinea pigs, I remember loosing 2. That's less than 1%. Never the less, the loss of any pet is very sad but it does happen.

  • And by the way, guinea pigs are lactose intolerant by nature, so those yogurt drops can be bad for them. They need more veggies than they need pellets. Romaine, green leaf, red leaf, boston lettuces, green bell pepper (a GREAT source of vitamin C), things like that. I'm very disappointed at the information you give out, and that you think breeding guinea pigs is fun.

  • Our favorite treats for guinea pigs, in addition to the best fresh pellets available [ check the info on the Oxbow site ] are Timothy hay and kale

  • Placement of a proper cage can ensure the pigs don't get drafts. Aquariums do not allow proper ventilation, in addition to not allowing enough space for the animal to run. They NEED exercise. Large cages can be made easily and cheaply. Bedding is also something to consider. Sawdust will lead to upper respiratory infections. Cedar and non-dried pine bedding have phenols which can have the same ill effects.

How long do your piggies usually live with those atrocious conditions you keep them in?

  • The guinea pigs we sell frequently live 8 years but there are occasional ones that are 10 and even a reported 12 year old.

I certainly agree that sawdust is inappropriate so for the past 30 years we have used a kiln dried pine chip product that is used in laboratories where it is particularly important that it be a safe environment.

  • An aquarium is NOT good for guinea pigs simply because they do not allow the approriate SPACE and VENTILATION. This may be "your" way of doing things, but as far as the "right" way, it's far from that.

  • Especially in the spring and fall when the air flow in your house changes, we hear of owners loosing their guinea pigs because of drafts. This does not happen if they are in aquariums. Each person has a sucessful way for caring for their pet and no two are identical. We always suggest that children have their friends sit on the floor before taking the pet out and then letting it visit them on the floor.

  • They are so cute

  • um, couldnt the female piggie get pregnant??? theres a male and female in there, even though they are young doesnt mean they cant get pregnant!!!

  • They have to be old enough to be fertile and these were not. I love pregnant pigs which must be handled very carefully by the way and since the females must be bred preferably by 6 months, I have no problem with them being together.

  • Guinea pig males can be sexually mature at 21 days old, and females between 3-6 weeks. I hope you handle pregnant cavies more carefully than those in this video.
