It's an evolutionary thing. The cat has its primal instinct from so long ago, but it has been domesticated for so long that it has a sense that it is doing something wrong, and is unsure of itself. Very interesting.

It killed that bird because of where the cat comes from. House cats are a part of the ecosystem because they have been in the States for hundreds of years and have been around in the world for thousands.
I would just like to point out that I own three cats, and all three are allowed to hunt like this. They kill mice, rats, and birds, but I allow them to because they eat them. Not simply play with them. This saves me a fair amount on cat food (no, I don't starve them), as they tend to eat naturally (aka, catching things outside) 1 out of 3 meals. But allowing the cat to continue hunting when it simply bores of the prey, that's damaging to the ecosystem.
Nature IS full of imbalances but those imbalances fix themselves. What do you think will happen once we start using up all our resources? People will start dying. That's nature.

It's an evolutionary thing. The cat has its primal instinct from so long ago, but it has been domesticated for so long that it has a sense that it is doing something wrong, and is unsure of itself. Very interesting.

"not letting it go outside" is invalid because cats have the right to go outside. @TheTudiscoKid Cats are carnivorous mammals. It's in their nature to hunt. Lions, Cheetahs, Panthers all have the same ancestory. Big difference is a cat is a house pet though they have that bloodline of their other feline cousins coursing through their veins.
What this uploader filmed was just amateur compared on what is filmed on the national geographic.
You cannot control what people think/feel. People get crazy ideas from the littlest of things just by watching it. And that's in general.

The ecosystem has already been altered due to urbanisation and to counter that treat mouse and rat pose cats are essential. It killed that bird because of where the cat comes from. House cats are a part of the ecosystem because they have been in the States for hundreds of years and have been around in the world for thousands.

I would just like to point out that I own three cats, and all three are allowed to hunt like this. They kill mice, rats, and birds, but I allow them to because they eat them. Not simply play with them. This saves me a fair amount on cat food (no, I don't starve them), as they tend to eat naturally (aka, catching things outside) 1 out of 3 meals. But allowing the cat to continue hunting when it simply bores of the prey, that's damaging to the ecosystem.

There are woods across my street and you'd be lucky if you didn't see a cat hunting something down if you go in there. As far as I can see, all the normal inhabitants are still there.
