My godmother has two apple snails, they bred of course and the female turned purple and laid her eggs then the supposed male turned purple and ate them. this happened just about a hour ago and we have no clue how the fertilization process work with these animals since we didn't expect brother and sister to mate and at that size. is this a normal thing or are the apple snails we have hermaphrodites? I'm concerned since my larger snail came from the same clutch, the lack of knowledge annoys me.

She is a Pomacea canaliculata - basic aquarium store Apple Snail.  One way to verify that is tht her egg are pink when deposited - but turn bright orange about a few hours later as seen on the aquarium lid in the vid. Some apple snails are hermaphroditic - these are not so she is a she. Thanks for watching.

i have a snail in my tank hes only small same colour as yours i got him by accident back in january i only have the one snail but the other day it laided eggs in one of my tanks he back in the big tank now but will these eggs hatch?

HI - looks like its a "she". The eggs will hatch if they are fertilized. The babies will chew their way out of the eggs and drop into the water - you may not see them for the first week or two because they are so small.

If the eggs are NOT fertilized, then they will just degrade with time.

the descrition says BreeeeeeeEeeeEEEEeeEEEder tank, so it combines the 2 specie together and make new animals maybe a clown fish + green snapper = green clown fish. (i play the fish game on my iPad.......)

all of the eggs probably have embryos - most of the eggs will hatch - most of those that hatch will survive.

we had a snail similar to this in our fish tank and she layed tons of eggs and we ended up having to throw the whole tank away. there were a bunch of them!!! why do they do this? and I hear they can inpregnate themselves.. weird!!!
