In my opinion I believe it was a hoax for 2 reasons. First on the today show where Falcon and his family were interviewed. His parents asked if he heard them calling his name. Falcon said yes which is my first reason. My second reason was when falcon was asked why he didnt come out and tell them Falcon replied because you guys said that we did this for a show.

Of course the officials believe it's true. They're not gonna want to admit that they fucked up and fell for it. Balloon is far too small to carry the boy. There is a Mythbusters video here on YouTube "Balloons Blades and A Babe" in which it took 3500 helium balloons to lift a 4 yr old girl.
