wow!!! after all these years these KC ballads still reach my heart at a depth that little else ever approached... thank you Kim Carnes for keeping my heart alive ... when as a beaten kid I had no clear reason....
DECEMBER 28, 2011 • Wednesday • KIM CARNES, JEFF HANNA, AND MATRACA BERG • Presented by the Wheeler Opera House • Wheeler Opera House • 320 East Hyman Avenue • Aspen, CO, USA • Toll Free: 866-449-0464 • Box Office: 970-920-5770 • Artists: Kim Carnes, Jeff Hanna & Matraca Berg. • Hours: 08:00 p.m. • $32.50 (all seats).
This is one of the saddest songs I've ever heard. And also one of the most beautiful in its simplicity. Who hasn't wanted to check out or "break away" when things are dark and dismal.
Truly a jewel in Kim Carnes crown...."Voyeur" was an amazing piece of work. It was so upsetting that the public wanted another Bette Davis Eyes. This album was by far a more cohesive album.
Undoubtedly, the best Carnes song. Open to multiple interpretations, but each of them haunting, thanks to the conviction in her voice. I disagree about the choir, though - I think they're a distraction from the purity and simplicity of the song. Regardless, this song came at a time when I was under a great deal of stress (or so I thought at the time - oh, if I only knew what stress came with growing up). I could relate because I felt I was "breaking away from sanity."
This is also my favorite Kim Carnes song, so simple and haunting as someone already said.....it reminds me a little of "Crazy In Love", her single from '88. As people say all the time, they just don't make music like this anymore.
-since I first got hold of the album (at age :7!) I was deeply in love with this theme, that tears down the walls of music into a new universe... Love to KC from NYC, Chris Cowley
Que pena tem poucas músicas da Kim aqui no youtube, gosto muito da voz dela, uma das minha preferidas, ah mais parabéns pelo vídeo, depois de procurar muito por alguma musica desse album, acabei achando esse tesouro de canal.

I am glad you've visited the KC fan club website! I updated it yesterday. Kim will perform live in Argentina and USA (TN and GA). About "Breaking Away From Sanaty", it was the first time KC worked with a children chorus. On the 90's she did it again on the songs "Look Through Children's Eyes" (from Checkin' Out the Ghosts" album, 1991) and "Away In A Manger" (Christmas' song).
One of the best KC ballads. Children chorus includes her oldest son Collin Ellingson, Donna De Lorry (future Madonna's backing singer) among others. Although I love this song, this track didn't fit well in a new wave & rock'n'roll album as "Voyeur". I believe the EMI staff interfered a lot on this album - and the album was released in September 1982 when too many albums used to be released on the market.
