  • However, looking through the prism of art therapy and interpretation what one creates and attempts to say, if anything, is a reflection of their intellectual, emotional, and psychological climate so the piece speaks of what is inside them and not a "statement" as such. Perhaps art is one huge Rorschach ink blot.

  • One thing that I work hard to see is what an artist is communicating with their work. My understanding of art is that it's a reflection of life. Understanding(s) vary of course. Another art student once opined to me "why does art have to say anything?" I chose not to reply to that comment at that time. I think that communicates something in itself. Why would a medium of expression not communicate? Once again, I make every effort to see what a piece may be trying to say. Just like words vary?

  • I'm supposed to do a report on this guy for my college art class, and all I can say is.. None of his stuff makes any sense to me. I'm sorry, but you gotta be way out there to really get anything from looking at it.. I wish I could see what he sees, but sadly I don't. I'm just quitting art class cause of this.

Don't quit, say what you just said without the quitting part and just free associate and go with it as far as you can. You and the Professor may be delighted at the result! :) Besides, you may make a real contribution if you do!
