Pogorelich plays Rachmaninoff Moment Musical No 5 Op 16

This my my grade 8 piece about 6 years ago now. What a fantastic example of a very lyrical side to Rachmaninoff. I have never heard it at this tempo and as mentioned really pays homage to the performers emotive and technical ability. The Lyricism Rachmaninoff evokes in this piece in respect to his repertoire I would draw parallel with Beethoven Sonate Pathetique 3. movement.

you can argue about Ivo's varied level of playing(after Alizia's death) but one thing, he Never sounds "Canned" "prepared" like so many players today. His way of playing is not playing. it's breathing life into motions of notes. through note. yes, it feels radical lie you're hearing...experiencing it for the first time. i feel like i know him very intimately when i listen his playing like he's conversing with you.

Here Pogorelich adopts a daringly slow tempo that seems to stretch into infinity. But, where most others would fail, he succeeds - through the sheer force of his artistic imagination. He compels one to listen from start to finish, and even convinces one of his rightness.

This performance, from 2001, represents Pogorelich still at his finest as an artist. What happened between then and 2005, when his interpretations crossed the line from individual to eccentric, is a mystery to me.

je suis beaucoup moins enthousiaste ; on craint, mesure après mesure, que Pogorelich tombe dans un profond sommeil ! L'éditeur Benjamin a noté un tempo à 54 à la noire; or, Pogor.adopte à peine un 36...Et puis, il y a ces hésitations, ce rubato tout-à-fait excessif.Décidément, ce pianiste nous a habitués à mieux !

You know - Pogorelich is just the greatest musician in the world - listen to what he does to this piece!! Can anyone believe how he achieves such tonal and textural variety?? He plays as though he has all the time in the world - I have the rest of my life to listen to him and even that's not enough - I'm only 42!! Now - when will he release a studio recording of Rachmaninoff!! How hot would that be?
