Villeneuve only performed in a Williams which was at that time atleast 2 stages ahead off any other car on the grid. Schumacher simply outclassed him in all aspects in 1997, Villeneuve only won because off the car.
@McLarenMercedes just look at the 98 season. williams and ferrari were both not the best cars but who won races and could fight for the title? And Villeneuve was not much better than Frentzen...21-17...
Heinz-Harold Fretzen is, in my opinion, better than Jacques Villeneuve. Heinz won in a Jordan 1999 car, which was, in comparison to that year's McLaren MP4-14. Im not saying Jacques was in a better car that year, but look, he had the best cars in 96-97, so a championship is far too easy for him. But look, when he has an average car, he sucks. No offence. But Heinz-Harold won in an average car and finished third in the 1999 WC. They're both good drivers, but IN MY OPINION, Heinz-Harold is better.
JV was a great driver and deserved the championship but he had the best car in 97 so it should've been easy for him. Look at his years after 97, not even a single win and seldom in the points. IMO, he was the least talented driver to win a championship. Don't get me wrong, he's still a good driver.
ye,why don t take frentzen the title ,have the same car...sorry for you ..Villeneuve was good he win on the first gp in australia 96 mabe you know a pilot who win the first gp.I tell you...nobody
I dislike Jacques at this time, because williams sacking our champ Damon, but now I realise what a good driver he was, and how he was wasted by BAR and BMW
The higher onboard T-cam position back then gave a much better impression of the speed of the cars. Not to mention the drivers had to do much more work at the wheel whereas today's cars are pretty much driven on rails (1.5 s off pole time back then would put you in the lower midfield at least whereas now it's the back of the grid).
how many cylinders had these cars? 12 or 10

The old silverstone is much better than the new one. Bernie has destroyed everything good formula 1 had.
redtommi1 1 year ago
@redtommi1 this is not silverstone, old silverstone is before 1991, 1988 respectively.
AND BERNIE HAS NOTHING WITH NEW SILVERSTONE.

@Pompyroftw and frentzen?......
thelizardfolk 2 years ago
same can be said about Schumacher in 2001-2002-2003-2004
2002 and 2004 in particular the Ferrari was the best car by far, all the other teams were not even close
what about Button in 2009? Senna and Prost in 1988 and 1989? didn't they also have dominant cars?

Just too bad Villeneuve outpaced him quite bad in 97, and also did it in 98, when the Williams was an average car.

Lol, yea can say that. Like I said, it was only MY OPINION.....

he only won it because he had the best car and frentzen as a team mate. hill owned him in 96 and williams sacked the wrong guy
martynhenrystyles 2 years ago
96 was Jacques first year in formula one, and he ran Mr Hill pretty close if i remember rightly.
gerardbiteme 2 years ago 7
as i recall JV finished 2nd in the championship not to mention he was also a rookie in 96 then went on to win the championship in 97..
