The Flamingo, Comstock, Fitzgerald, Nugget, Horseshoe, Harolds Club, Sundowner, ALL GONE.
Don't know how Cal Neva and Harrahs are still open. It's a matter of time they'll close. Sands will be gone too soon. The only downtown casino survivors will be CIrcus Circus, Eldorado and SIlver Legacy,
As Circus Circus, Eldorado and Silver Legacy are giving rooms away in an attempt to survive the Indian casinos and Atlantis and Peppermill, the downtown motels will convert to SROs or close.
@steffanij, plus the sundowner was my fav hotel in town. The main oldschool hotels were the Virginian, horseshoe , sundowner ect. I learned to play poker a the sundowner :D did they close it in 2007? ;(
I live a couple blocks from downtown reno.... they're not vacant, they've just been bought by different casino owners. Actually most were bought to be turned into luxyry condos. Fitzgeralds is one that i can think of off the top of my head that actually "went out of business" the rest were purchased, had some updates, and most are open now as condos. Sort of sad to see so many casinos be converted, but I think it brings more life to downtown anyway
I think Reno is better now than back then, it's not all about gaming anymore, there's so much more to do and see in Reno now. And it's only going to get better, plus, we're over 400,000 people now, back then there was less than 300,000 in the metro and Reno was only about 100,000 people
wow, I was 2 years old at this time. Ive lived in reno all my life. that bally's in the beginning is now the grand sierra resort. in fact, I own a Donkey Kong arcade machine from that bally's.
and I cant remember exactly, but I know that the flamingo is gone, harolds is gone, the virginian is gone, and I think the comstock is gone also. I havent been downtown in a while, but off the top of my head, those are gone. the silver club casino in sparks closed recently also.
In addition to the one's you mentioned, also gone within the last 10 years-the Sundowner, Old Reno, The Gambler, Speak Easy, Bonanza and most recently Fitzgeralds this past November.
Amazing how much Reno has changed since this video was shot. Almost all of the hotels and casinos, as well as the crowds, are gone now. So sad. Reno was such a fun place to visit. Thanks for posting.
wow.......ive never heard of a casino going out of businesse. obviously they cant compete with begas. they still have casinos there? would you recomend visiting reno?
every year reno gets emptier and emptier!!! today nobody evan goes to downtown anymore!!! i wish it was like this today!!!

@cobieshark Blame Vegas and all their "tourist" attractions. Reno is a tourist place, AND a city, unlike the glitter and fakery in the south.

Half the casinos that were there 10 years ago went out of business. Some have been torn down, others are just sitting empty.
