Yeah, we DO tax imports actually... I am in the granite countertop industry, and the goods (diamond blades, etc.) imported into the US were heavily taxed in 2007 as opposed to 2006; (as well they should be...)

the fact is there is very little evidence that trade is good for developing countries. Mexico, likewise, failed. Mexico made a lot of reforms, but there was no additional economic growth. You can blame China all you want, but Ron Paul is absolutely right, managed-trade doesn't work.
