  • I suspect my 15 year old cockatiel has pbfd. I watched your other videos and he reminded me so much of that other one who also had the broken nail. At what point do you eventually euthanize the bird? I don't let my animals suffer. I think it is wonderful that we can give them the gift of not having to suffer until their last breath. It's just harder to judge the quality of life in a bird than say, a dog, in my opinion. I don't think my bird is anywhere near that point yet, but it has gotten me

  • @AllAmericanAgility @AllAmericanAgility Most birds seem capable of leaving their bodies very quickly and easily when their time is up. You could consider learning animal communication or using an animal communicator as a go between.

  • @DoctorRossPerry If you are interested in trialing a potential answer to PBFD with me using essential oils please complete the questionaire photo and skype and other requirments for remote evlaluation discussion at Gold Coast Bird Vet (one word GCBV) dotcom and if your bird evaluates positive for PBFD i will share insights on the oils etc .

  • My cockatiel won't stop scratching itself and the area it scratches is red and bleeds when it scratches. Not sure what it is? What should I do? This started happening this morning.

  • @Xenomorph7771 Distant discussions with me can be arranged as specified in Gold Coast Bird Vet dot come without the e.

  • can this stress them

  • @leos4life21 It could but then visiting the doctor the dentist and a hospital is also stressful, I minimise or eliminate the stress by calming as many birds as I can. Dr Ross Perry

  • very sweet

  • Dr Ross tnx for the informative video. I bought a female cockatiel a year ago, I noticed she is very slow in learning and is affraid of everything around her. I free my birds everyday 4rm morning to night and after one yr being with us the only thing she does is that she sits slightly close to us bt still doesnt like to be touched. Unfortunately the male has no interest in her as he is very very close to us. How do i get her to feel secure and interact?

  • Occasionally I make house calls locally. However, much of my routine work involves the use of microscope and Gram stained smears etc so I much prefer to consult at the clinic. Traveling time both ways is also a consideration. Thanks for your nice comment. Ross

  • @DoctorRossPerry doctor i have to give my birdie oral drops can you please explain the easiest way to put her in a towel so she dont wiggle out. and it makes it easier for me and her? please get back to me kind sir thank you.

  • @hulk90000 Please explore more of my youtube videos. From memory there are a series in which I show how to roll the long end of a towel or teatowell until the flat area matches the length of the birds body and then wrap the rolled towel section around the birds neck firmly so the flat area wraps around the body. I hope you can find them as I am time precious at the moment. There are a series of diagrams re how to do this also, in my book "Caring for Birds with Love and Gratitude" via website.

  • @DoctorRossPerry thanks

  • @DoctorRossPerry doctor just one more question please? my avian vet has me giving my cockatiel amphotericin b for "avian gastric yeast" i dont have that much longer to go but its pure hell for me and her because now shes refusing to take it. would it be better for me to ask my vet for medicine to put into her food instead? or wouldnt she get the proper dose? thank you

  • @hulk90000 there is a vetafarm forumulation that can be put in drinking water in glass container fresh daily for 10 days.It needs to be combined with daily elbow grease.. thorough removal of all old droppings each day to stop reinfection and resistance.

  • You seem like an awesome bird doctor. Do you make house calls?

    :)

  • @QueenSemiramis Thanks " Sammu-Ramat" for your other nice comments too!
