Hey, Adam the author of the video asked me to post a comment regarding Club Deep's police raid Sat Oct 26th.
The club was raided by over 20 police officer at around 1:30am during the Halloween gogo boy show, no offical reason for the raid has been given - though several drug aressts were made on the night.
Deep now looks like it's going to be closed for the next 3 weeks.
Presumably police raid various clubs, gay or straight all the time. If there's a pattern of differential treatment towards specifically gay clubs - then that'd be a concern.

Hey, Adam the author of the video asked me to post a comment regarding Club Deep's police raid Sat Oct 26th.
The club was raided by over 20 police officer at around 1:30am during the Halloween gogo boy show, no offical reason for the raid has been given - though several drug aressts were made on the night.
Deep now looks like it's going to be closed for the next 3 weeks.

Presumably police raid various clubs, gay or straight all the time. If there's a pattern of differential treatment towards specifically gay clubs - then that'd be a concern.

chuaherazade, have you watched whole clip? the most interesting part of this video I found is when they came down to Eddy's bar which is owned by an american "married" a chinese gay. hang on a minute!! an american?! Don't you question how it's possible for a person comes from a country of "freedom and democracy" to engage gay activities without being arrested in a "suppressive and dictated" country like china?

Good to see Chinese gays can be a bit more open about who they are nowdays and have places to go. It shows China is really becoming modern, not just technology & economy-wise but in social attitudes.

What do you mean MODERN?? There is nothing MODERN about acceptance for homosexuality.
The anti-homosexuality attitude is entirely western. Pre-western influenced China had nothing against homosexuals. Granted there are pressures to produce descendents, but otherwise having male lover/s do not make you abnormal or abominable like it had been in western societies.

That there are islands of history where it was at least tolerated is interesting, thanks for raising the point - but I still see wider acceptance (& legal protections) as largely a modern thing.

'Entirely western' is probably a wrong way to put it, I should have added 'influence on China' in that sentence.
I'm not sure you can say 'islands of history' though. Ancient Greek, Rome and Japan did all see homosexuality as norm, not too sure about other civilizations, but I wouldn't be too surprised to find more out there.

The attitudes are changing but not in the most enlightened ways. Most of my students believe that the economic development of China is causing people to become homosexual. A few expressed it as a natural phenomenon, but they seem not to think of 'gayness' as something real unless it can be seen.
