  • JAMES MARSTERS IS SO UGLY

  • Probably my favorite scene of the whole series.

  • it's just incredible.....

  • well yes, where have you been all night? lol

  • This scene freaks me out every time I watch it

  • This is one of the best scenes in modern cinema history. Absolutely riveting. The ending doesn't fail to give me shivers each time.

  • Does Anybody Know The Name of the Music playing around 2:50

  • @pauliewalnuts100 it's the unofficial Buffy Spike theme. You can find it on 'The Final Fight' by Robert Duncan

  • @3aHdOoO23 That's not it. I just checked.

  • I love this scene! It's one of James Marsters best episodes in the series.

  • i can't watch this without staying dazed because the qualitity of script and acting spread for a TV series for youngsters.

  • That's kind of the shakespearian Amlet version by Spike.

  • And just like that seven years of black and white "demons can't change" propaganda is turned on its head.

  • Truly operatic.

  • I love this scene. Even when he's completely breaking my heart, terrifying me, or whatever else, he always seems to have some crack that makes me smile. In this one, it's undoubtedly "Well, yes, where have you been all night?" That brief little moment of awareness in all his insanity was funny without detracting from the scene.

  • Does anybody know which soundtrack this is? I totally love it!!!!!!!!

They don't make shows anymore like Buffy :D

  • I remember this scene... For me it was the most dramatic for his character of Spike. It also refects never wish for something - you just might get it. The demon who put him through the trials -- gave him what he least suspected to obtain - his soul.

  • @archangel2467 No, he went looking for his soul. It's explicitly stated later on in season 7 and in interviews with Joss Whedon.

  • @pumpkinqwerty wat was he looking for then? the only other thing i can think of is a way to forget about buffy

  • @chraven45 ... I agree with you.. He wanted to either forget about Buffy or make her want him again. I don't think his soul was what he was looking for.

  • @archangel2467 He repeatedly rambled about how he wanted to "Give her what she deserved" during the trials. Forgetting about her or making her want him again wouldn't achieve either. Getting a soul (making him a "man" rather than a "monster") would fit that criteria.

Ignoring, of course, that I'm pretty positive Joss has flat out said he was seeking a soul.

  • @chraven45 All he knew was that he loved Buffy, and without his soul he couldn't be enough for her. Without his soul he tried to rape her because he had no conscience, and he never wanted to hurt her like that again. "Why does a man do what he mustn't? For her. To be hers. To be the kind of man who would never... To be a kind of man." He was looking for his soul; he just didn't know what having a soul really meant. And I repeat: Joss Whedon said he was really trying to get his soul back.

  • Spike: "Why does a man do what he musn't. For her. To be hers. To be the kind of man who would nev--.....to be a kind of man." One of the best quotes in the entire series.

  • For Angel getting a soul was punishment, for Spike it was Redemption

  • Always tears me up. Every. Single. Time. :3

  • Spike was the REAL champion, he had a soul even before he got it back. Angel on the other hand, when he got his soul taken away, Buffy had to kill him. Spike on the other hand, thanks to the soldiers and their experiment, Spike actually became a good guy, without his soul. So between Angel and Spike, Spike is the real deal.

  • This is the best scene of the entire season, dare i say it, the series

the honesty Spike was showing was so deep. it bordered on self-destructive but he was forgiven in the end. Awesome :)

  • Am i the only one who finds Spike getting his soul totally stupid and pretty hilarious instead of romantic?

  • that was the best scene in the show between spike & buffy (T_T)

  • when i rewatched this scene this morning i noticed that when he's walking towards the cross to embrace it at the exact moment when he says to be a kind of man its heart wrenching because who cant relate to wanting redemption who hasn't looked to god to be forgiven by god and for him to love him/her despite what we've done when he reaches the the cross he says it To be loved wow joss did an amazing job and james M was brilliant he captured what it is to be so close and yet so far from god

  • Comment removed

  • This scene is beyond touching , its one of the best written scenes ever , spike was always misunderstood all he ever wanted was to be loved and he fought for 130 yrs for it even when he wasnt aware of it he needed it and wanted it ..... if any character josh did justice to is was spike even his back story was heart wrenching and felt more real than angels in my opinion this was unavoidable he was a good man and he just needed to be able to see it and his soul was always with him to me that is

  • One of the most riveting scenes you'll ever see.

  • @pauliewalnuts100 i agree 100 percent bro 100 percent

  • *CRASH*

"Right. Girl doesn't want to be serviced."

  • This is my favorite scene in Buffy ever, it has such a beautiful darkness to it.

  • Every time, Spike breaks my heart with this scene. :(

  • Also when referring to higher powers in the Buffy / Angelverse its usually just The Powers That Be.

If Spike was referring to a higher power when he looked up he wasn't saying god specifically he was probably talking to the same people who were guiding Angel on his show with Cordelia and the visions.

Beneath You as in beneath you it devours is the First Evil the main villain of this season and was already manipulating Spike taking advantage of his weakened state after getting his soul back.

  • @rockworm503 That's possible, but the "God" interpretation seems more likely given the environment (a church) and the fact that Spike (while asking for forgiveness) hugs the *cross*.

  • @rockworm503 But P.S. I agree with you that Buffy and Angel *usually* only refer to The Powers That Be. But, IME and IMO, they do indeed mention God once in a blue moon.

  • @OccasionallyBearded yes when spike spoke in this scene he was speaking of his victims, buffy the devil and god but the thing i think ppl are misunderstanding is when he's speaking to god, heres the thing when he says everyone tells him to go to hell he's not saying god is as well, he's referencing his old self.. when he says everyone will forgive and love everyone will love he stares at the cross because he wants not only buffy to love him but god as well

  • I watch this scene and it is beyond my comprehension why so many people hated season 7

  • God is an absolute hard ass if he still make a cross burn you after you battled to Hell and back for your soul.

  • @kkarls1 Well, Spike's *flesh* is still technically demonic (a vampire's body), which is why it burns when he hugs the cross. Either way, the smoke shooting off his body makes a pretty badass scene. :)

  • I absolutely Love this episode!!!

  • James Masters is a very underrated actor

  • @awwwwok He Really is

  • spike loved and would have died for Buffy even before he got his soul back...wheras angel without a soul wanted to not only kill her but torture her by destroyng everyone she loved. Angel was always selfish, Spike adored her.

  • @lepikimar, yeah but everyone seems to forget that Spike had no problems and actually came just as close as evil Angel did (or closer) to killing Buffy several times. He also tortured her in his own way. When he finally realized his violent obsession had turned sexual what did he do? Make a sex-bot of her! He was amoral as they get. Evil Angel is diablocal, evil Spike is comedic, sick, funny, twisted, dark, and eventually, humanizing. All I'm saying is they both have their layers.

  • What episode is this?

  • @Blackearedwolf Season 7 Episode 2, Beneath You

  • @bangelandspuffy4ever Thankyou so much :)

  • @Blackearedwolf no problem =)

  • OH SHIT! This is what i've been looking for!! I didn't even know what this scene was and damn! Thank and You!!

  • @lilsister2 No Problem =)

  • Why did he punch out Anya when she (now as a vengeance demon and could see things that) notice his soul?

  • @Popteart He didn't want Buffy to know yet, because he didn't get his soul for credit as a "look what I did for you". It's just like when he brought flowers when Joyce died : he did it genuinely because he cared. And at that point, he knew nothing he could say to Buffy would make her forgive him, and he didn't deserve forgiveness. At the worm hole when Buffy mentions he's different he could've told her then but didn't, only said he'd changed. He tells her here because he's frustrated IMO.

  • He may be a bad boy but what a sweet guy and buffy totally blows him off. She is a player. Love the show but she is a player who toys with his heart

  • That image of Spike hanging off the cross has become ICONIC for me. It really has. Jesus, this was an amazing bit of acting, on both ends... But mainly from James. I get chills every time I watch this...

  • 2:48 I love the fact that you can SEE the moment Buffy realizes what Spike is talking about. Great acting.

  • Thanks for uploading this scene. It is one of my favorite scenes in all of the series. I had been looking for it since the series ended.

  • @kaseymariewithak No problem =) It's mine too

  • I BAWL MY EYES OUT! EACH TIME!

Gosh he got her soul back for her... this is why i dislike her :P

  • I met him at comic con, he's still badass, and a really nice guy.

  • one of my all time favorite btvs scenes.

  • There are no words... none! Spike went to the ends of the earth to accomplish the impossible... to do what he had no earthly business of doing... to set things right... to make up for what he did... all for the woman he loved.

If that isn't romanticism, redemption, and the essence of what defines an epic hero I don't know what is. Spike IS one of the greatest fictional characters created in the past two decades PERIOD.

  • @mthakore ikr. He didn't even do that for Dru, and he loved her for over a century! Spike is, in one word, devoted. No matter how much of a monster being a vampire made him, the sensitive poet who only thinks of love is still inside.

  • lol 1:30 he says the most sanest thing in this whole clip lol he sounds like his old self for a second :)

  • the spark hurts so much

  • JM is literally one of the most talented actors I have ever watched. His ability to express SO many emotions in just his face is amazing.

Then adding in his actual lines and he's genius.

    <3

  • @mrebekah96 I agree. He is flawless and incredible =)

  • @Kalikadawson05

Not only did Spike reference him going to get his soul on purpose many times between Buffy Season 7 and Angel season 5 but the writers actually say in interviews that Spike saying he's getting what "she deserves" was just to throw off the viewers. They were purposely vague so that when he did receive it, it would be a shock. Spike went through the demon trials and got his soul ON PURPOSE.

Please pay attention before you make rude comments.

  • Here you can see just how much damage she's done him with how she used him... See? THIS is why I'd choose Spike over Angel... not to mention the body, the eyes, the accent, the COAT... but he's the best character Joss ever created, the most developed one. And as we're all saying he CHOSE to have his soul... For HER, to be HERS ... Also, loving his one lucid moment:

''Have you completely lost your mind?''

''Well, yeah, where have you been all night?''

    Oh James :]

  • Angel was forced to get his soul, Spike got it back willingly. Spike even as a vampire with no soul felt remorse. Angelus never did. I think we all know Spike is the better vampire. <3

  • JM was amazing in this scene i'll never get over it. and as everyone else said i loved the fact that he went and got his soul for buffy. it really showed how much he loved her

  • @14jenny15 I completely agree. I love this scene so much. James did an incredible job.

  • @14jenny15 hi to every one posting comments about how great it was that spike got his soul back for buffy this is actually not true if you rewatch the episode where he went to do the trials he didnt actually want his soul back that was the demon ! he actually wanted to be able to kill buffy or at the very least not be in love/obcsd with her.

    read the subtext people tnx

  • @kalikadawson05 no he always wanted his soul back they just didn't want everyone to know thats what he was doing, they wanted to believe he was getting his chip removed

  • @14jenny15 ok if thats true then why after he attacked buffy and left town did he say that shell get whats coming to her

  • @kalikadawson05 He means she'll be getting what she deserves, a man with a soul.

  • @kalikadawson05 he didn't all he said was things are gonna change...and they did

  • @kalikadawson05 if you watched the end of that episode as he was remembering every single act that happened he was hating himself for what he did. That was the reason why he got the soul. Because the fact that he raped Buffy was the last straw. He wanted to be able to be the man that she could love.

  • @HaloLitLove Exactly! When Angelus is around he hates the idea of having the soul put back in him. Spike wanted a soul and got it back on purpose! Spuffy Forever!

  • I found it inspiring when Spike felt horrible after attempting to rape Buffy. Vampires aren't suppose to feel guilt, so Spike should of been "All well" and moved on, but instead he wanted to "Make it right" and went somewhere far away and went through the trials to get Buffy back.

  • @WyattNyte15 So did I. He loved her so much

  • @WyattNyte15 I know it's why I think he's the vampire in prophesy on Angel he said it himself they were differn't because Angel never wanted his soul it was forced on him as a punishiment were as Spike fought for his soul know what it would to him.

  • I'm actually crying. JM is such a great actor. You gotta love him, and the same for SMG. AMAZING

  • @TheHazelDM Yeah. I dont think i would watch btvs if they werent there

  • Buffy: "Your SOUL! You got your soul back! Why?"

Spike: "...Buffy shame on you! Why does a* man do what he mustn't? For HER! To be HERS!"

THIS is why Spike is better than Angel!

  • @HaloLitLove AGREEEE!!!

  • @HaloLitLove soo much better then angel!!

  • @HaloLitLove Spike is better than Angel because he doesnt have the word NO in his vocabulary! Buffy fucking told him NO and he couldnt get it in her head. That lady from back when spike was human said no HE COULDNT GET IT!!! In this particular case, Angel is better than Spike. Angel knew their love was shit so he left. Spike doesnt understand what shit is!Dont get me wrong, I LOVE spike much more than angel, but in this case, Angel wins

  • @TheBuffylol sorry...meant to say he couldnt get it in HIS head

  • @TheBuffylol actually that is not true. in buffy season 7 spike tells buffy that he loves her for who she is and not because he wants her. when Buffy tells him that she loves him at the end he says "no you dont but thanks for saying it." Also if you watch angel season 5 spike says that he knows that he never had a chance with buffy.

  • @TheDarkknightrules92 I see you lack reading comprehension skills.I couldn't care less about whether spike truly loves her or not.The fact is Buffy doesn't.He,as you pointed out,is aware of this. But he doesn't give 2 shits. As JM said he would rather die than loose a fight so he keeps trying knowing he can't get her heart.THIS ISNT ROMANTC!This is STUPIDITY!Spike needs to grow up.If he knows there is no chance DONT WASTE YOUR TIME!Find a new hobby.Spike is a fucking idiot

  • @TheBuffylol I have comprehension skills. Apparently you dont. what i said is that in season 7 spike got his soul back and since then he has only been helping buffy because it is the right thing to do. he knew that he couldnt be with her but she comes to him for comfort in the last season. Also how come spike didnt tell buffy he was alive in angel season 5. it was becuase he knew that he had an important calling in LA and because he didnt want to taint his noble sacrifice at the end of buffy.

  • @TheDarkknightrules92 oh yeah and buffy does love spike. he just said that she didnt because he is ashamed of what he has done and doesnt think that he deserved it. point is that once spike got his soul back he stopped pursueing buffy case closed.

  • @TheDarkknightrules92 oh no she doesn't. She cares about him but the only guy she ever really loved is Angel.

  • @TheBuffylol when angel lost his soul he began to harass and stock buffy until she went mad. soulless angel is just as bad if not worse than soulless spike.

  • @TheDarkknightrules92 yeah that's true. Still doesn't change what I said

  • @TheBuffylol at the end of season 7 episode 14 spike overs to leave but buffy says that she is not ready for him to leave.

  • @TheDarkknightrules92 really? thank God I never watched that season. what an out of character thing to do. Chalk it up to the shitty writing of season 7

  • @TheBuffylol But you should still watch the entire season 7. I think you won't be disappointed.

  • @ChrissieBana I think I will. That season fucks up Buffy Willow and Spike's characters so much!

  • @TheBuffylol lol if you havent seen season 7 how can you make a judgment on it. that is not right.

  • @TheDarkknightrules92 I was judging from season 6. What I understood from your comment was "Spike is better than angel because he got a soul for her". I watched that part. That was not good for Buffy in any way.

  • @TheBuffylol Buffy is a groupie when she meets a vamp with a soul, it's like her fetish or something.

  • @ChrissieBana HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHH

  • @TheBuffylol why not?

  • @TheDarkknightrules92 why not about what? I posted a lot of comments

  • @TheBuffylol its not out of character for her. the fact that spike has a soul changes everything and buffy knows that due to her experiences with angel. season 7 was a brilliant conclusion to the series. especially for buffy and spike.

  • @TheDarkknightrules92 Oh NO! I think I have gotten myself into an Angel VS Spike fight....ah man. I'm leaving before I degrade myself any more

  • Buffy: "Your SOUL! You got your soul back! Why?"

Spike: "...Buffy shame on you! Why does man do what he mustn't? For HER! To be HERS!"

THIS is why Spike is better than Angel!

  • I used to like Angel, but Spike really grew on me.

  • @VRein00 Yes, I do love angel and angelus. But spike will be one of my favorites forever.

  • This is one of my favorite scenes ever for them and the entire show

    thank you

  • @spuffyfan7 I agree =) no problem

  • @spuffyfan7 The Most Powerful moment i think on Buffy Or One of them!

  • I love the fact that Spike's hunger for redemption causes him to hug the cross, even while it's burning his skin. I also love the subtle references to God - Spike says "it's what YOU wanted" after talking to Buffy, and then Spike says that he can feel Buffy and "HIM" inside. I also like the subtle reference to The Devil (at least that's my interpretation... Spike says, "and it, the other, the thing beneath you... it's here too"). Anyway, I just love this scene.

  • @OccasionallyBearded I agree with you completely. Spike's character made this scene as amazing as it is.

  • @OccasionallyBearded

He's referencing the first when her says "And it, the other thing, beneath you" but i believe the devil is an interpretation of the first, so i guess that's one way to see it.

  • @OccasionallyBearded I like though that he refers to them as him and it. It shows that he does not refer to them as people, but things that impact him. Its facinating

  • @OccasionallyBearded technically "HIM" was a reference to Angel.....lol

  • @OccasionallyBearded ...watch the show or the season.... both him and the thing beneath you refer to "the first" ...the seasons "bigbad". not god nor the devil lol...

  • @600sixtysixBullets Buffy asks Spike about his soul. Spike tells her "it's what you wanted, right?" Then Spike lookss *up* and says "it's what YOU wanted". That particular "you" was obviously supposed to be God. Shortly afterwards, Spike tells Buffy that he can feel things/ people inside of him telling him to "go to hell", including a reference to "HIM". That "him" may or may not be God, but it's not "the first". Spike says "and him AND it" - the "it" and "him" are different

  • @OccasionallyBearded the "its what you wanted thing" i think was towards god though when he looks up.

  • @OccasionallyBearded The thing beneath him that he refers to is actually not the devil but the first evil, the main villain of season 7.

  • @OccasionallyBearded I'm pretty sure "the other" that's "beneath" is referring to the First Evil....but that's pretty much the devil anyway, lol.

  • I'm going to be super pissed off if the youtube Nazis remove this video...

  • This is my favorite scene from Buffy. It's so powerful. I actually cried the very first time I watched it. Thank you for uploading it!

  • @OccasionallyBearded I agree. It is such a great scene. I'm glad you enjoy it =]

  • LOVE this scene! James Marsters is a greaaat actor :)

  • @blancacheli2 He really is. If this were another actor, the scene wouldn't have been so great. I'm glad you like it =)

  • fav scene in all of buffy the vampire slayer. Thanks for the vid

  • @awwwwok no problem =) i love the scene too.
