  • I'm sorry, but I have to critique this. You need more facial expressions. You know as well as I do, at least I hope you know, that ASL is a very expressive language. I was just bored watching you because all you were doing was moving your hands. I mean, you are telling a story to the rhythm of a song. You NEED more facial expressions. It was very boring for me to watch.

  • I can't speak sign language, but you are awesome for doing this. I love this song.

  • No one could ever "speak" a signed language ... lol! It's manual :D

  • this is amazing.

  • I loved this. I thought it was great. This is the song I base my life around and you did an amazing job. I don't know asl but omg you did awesome. I love you! You're freaking amazing. You rock keep it up.

  • bravo u r so nice:)

  • Wow, this was beautiful.

  • Thank you Sai... your measured, thoughtful, respectful and touching interpretation of this, one of my favorite songs ever, is a work of art. Although I know barely a handful of ASL words and am lucky to get all the letters, I would not need to watching this. I just hope you do more. Wig in a Box and Midnight Radio would be... just so awesome. Best to you and thanks again. ~R

  • Ummmmm, Might you explain what you're doing? Serious question... I don't get it, like... you study this?

  • No, but I used to. I just do this because it's fun.

If you mean what I'm doing from a technical perspective, see my "linguistic & interpretive analysis of an asl 'terp" vidseries.

  • I'm an ASL interpretation student and I have to interpret a song as a final project. Despite being a Hedwig fan I had never even thought to do OoL. Thanks for the interpretation!

  • Glad to help. Hopefully you'll be doing your own interpretation though and not just ripping off mine. ;)

And you should post it to YT when you do it...

  • Oh, of course! I'm a hands-on type learner and if I just copied someone else I wouldn't remember it two seconds later. Doing the actual interpretation helps cement it in my head.

Plus, stealing is just rude. ;)

  • You can find on youtube an excellent animated adaptation with English subtitles of the text of Plato that inspired "Origin of Love" : it is titled "Speech of Aristophanes". Type it in the search engine.

  • Brilliant! I just started studying ASL a few months ago, but this is really lovely. Great job!

  • Hedwig in ASL!!! BUWHAHAHAHA!!!

    Love his sign for Zeus!!!

    Blessed Be!!!

  • This is a truly gorgeous interpretation of a beautiful song. Thank you!

  • the sign for making love is beautiful.

  • The one I did with ILYs is closer to 'making love' per se, the one with As is just 'being together'.

There are other signs of course.

  • You're my favorite now :-)

  • I love you so much. <3

  • I'd love to have those fingers inside me...

  • ... O.o

I can't tell if this is spam or someone being silly.

  • wow, you are amazing human being for doing this. you and your interpretation... so beautiful. thank you!

  • This is the coolest thing ever! I've been learning ASL for a while, so that makes it even more neat!

  • You are a Beautiful on the Inside and the Outside...I can tell you are a Kind Person

  • you're so wonderful. thanks for that.

  • Beautiful. Thanks, mate!

    EH

  • Very nice from you to do this!!!

  • This is my favorite song and I am so glad someone is signing it, I've been wanting to sign it, it's beautiful you did an awesome job!

  • This - is - really - amazing!

  • Wow. This is quite incredible, just watching you hands. Love the movie, love this clip. Thanks

  • You are an awesome person to translate this song.

  • That was really cool.

  • This is so sweet. I absolutely adore it.

  • this is my favorite song and it was really interesting watching your video.thank you..

  • Welcome. :-)

  • Very cool. I couldn't stop watching it. Communication via gestures is very interesting, and seems like it could convey more meaning than spoken words. Hearing is definitely a sense I take for granted. Thanks, saizai.

    na5m

  • It's not "gestures". ASL is a quite complete language with vocabulary, syntax, grammar, etc etc. :-P

  • I can't imagine not knowing what music sounds like, not being able to hear. Is there any way a deaf person can enjoy music? Thanks again, saizai.

    na5m

  • You'd have to ask a deaf person. When I have done so, the answer is yes-sorta. Not in the same way as hearing people do, but they can feel vibrations (and are more sensitized to doing so), watch visualizations, etc. Plus whatever hearing they do have. Plus non-audio-requiring "music", e.g. this or sign-poetry or the like.

  • aw what a great song to interpret. this was really lovely :)

  • ??, i think you're an interesting guy and I especially enjoy your videos that clarify arguments about agnosticism and atheism.

  • ... thanks? I'm confused why you post this to my ASL 'terp though.

  • but i still rated it a 5.lmao

  • your kinda strange. and i have no idea what you are talkinga bout.haha.

  • ...?

  • p.s. did you see the lyrics? -->

It's music. I'm not 'talking about' anything except in the intro, which should be pretty clear.
