  • 2 person have a stone-heart

  • I read that you won't be doing these much longer. ;_; I understand, but I'm sad. I just discovered your site & enjoy it so much! Nina is an inspiration. <3

Question for you Geof if you don't mind. Nina seems to speak very articulately in Japanese (and in English to actually) (I can only go by the subtitles that you post because I speak very little Japanese) Do you think the Japanese language is conducive to more formal speech even in children? I wish I had an example on hand to refer you to.

  • @linnifae I know what you're saying. Some of the "formal" sound in the Japanese subtitles could be because of the way I choose to interpret the Japanese, but sometimes she is using formal Japanese, which she learns at daycare. The difference between formal and casual Japanese is much more distinct than in English, where it depends more on the mood of the speaker than on the words themselves. Kids don't usually use formal Japanese, but when they do, they sound "adultish" in a cute way.

  • hehehhehehehhe... ^_^ love it... love you Nina..hehehhe

  • OH YEAHHH!! xD

    ニーナのこの曲がよく似てて驚きました。

    彼女はナニか持ってますね。

  • I love Nina's videos! I used to love "Move It" when I was four and I used to sing, "I like to move it moment!"

  • @geevinan ha ha It does sound like that.

  • She is so precious! :)

  • Where did you learn Japanese from?

I want to learn for when i'm older but I want a good source :)

  • @CameronsLuv I started studying Japanese AFTER I moved to Japan, at the YWCA and later as part of my Master's Degree. I liked actually having a teacher, as opposed to just trying to learn from the internet or something.

  • @geofg Thank you :)

  • Oh My Goodness......

    She's sooooooooooo adorable...

I'd like to become her number one fan...

    Goo Nina!!!!

    Oh yweah!

  • hey geofg

    nina like to say "oh,yeah"

you think she can say "oh,yeah" in a funny sound????

    pardon my bad english

  • hi geofg, my major is english literature at university,, and i will work on my final this semester.. i wonder if i can analyze Nina's english for the topic,,, this thought just pop up in my head,.,so i will think about that about the approach in linguistics..hmmmmmmmmmmmmm

neno is thinking.... hope Nina can help me to finish my study! yeay!

  • OK, good luck. Let me know if I can help.

  • your daughter is so smart! I cannot get over her being four years old and speaking two languages very well!

She has such a beautiful personality. What an adorable little girl!

  • Thank you very much!

  • She is 4 already? My daughter really liked this one. We are playing the harmonica now.

  • Yeah, she turned 4 last August. How old is Nano now? The harmonica is a good one because you get instant sound, all in the same key. I've been trying to find Nina a kazoo. I loved my kazoo as a kid.

  • @geofg

Hanano was 2 last August. I dug my Harmonica out after watching the video. She loves it, and I love that I can play along with her (because she stays in the same key). Nano has the harmonica now and is saying 'Nina mitai' (well actually she said Hina mitai, I think she is getting her mixed up with a cousin).

She clicked on you video after it linked from one of hers, she seems to like it a lot.

Nano has a kazoo but it has proved to be quite limited in the fun department.

  • Hanano wasn't into the kazoo? I wish I could play an instrument so I could play along with Nina. Maybe I'll play the kazoo (if I find one) and Nina can stick with the harmonica.

  • @geofg

No, she doesn't stick at the kazoo for more than a minute. I might also recommend a ukulele. They are small enough for kids and the basics are soooo much easier than a guitar (or recorder or pretty much any other instrument). Hanano can already strum but can only manage one chord (which involves only one finger), well she is only 2. I will have to see if I can catch some on video one day. The Harmonica is still proving to be a winner, thanks for the vid or I would not have dug it out.

  • hi geoff! just want to ask if there is anew video of nina?? its been quite awhile when you post her vid.. i missed her :( thanks!

  • 大きくなったね。

  • Hey Geoff maybe you should get Nina a copy of FL studio (you can steal it online quite easily) I've been using it to make my own music for over six months, check out the last song I made with it (it's pretty different from Nina's music though)

    watch?v=P9JEz6Rt-fg

  • I checked out your vid. Interesting sounds. You created them using FL studio? Don't quite understand what that is, but I'll check it out.

  • if only we could all be more like Nina.

  • hahhaa.. nina is really cute. check for her new vid. :) reallyy really funny. haha.. :)

  • She'd make a great musical artist! :)

  • hahahahha shes really great ,,omoshiroi,, i want to meet her.......hahha maybe someday shes gonna be a star,,,, she has a good voice too,,keep practicing nina,,mwahhhhhhhh,,,,,

  • Haha, Nina is the cutest girl ever! Harmonica has a very interesting sound. I think Nina will be great at it!

  • Hi, I`m Steffi. Naoko`s friend from Germany.

I`ve been the biggest fan of Nina ever since!!!

She is so creative, and you can so see her passion and personality. OH YEAH!

    Japan has Talent!

  • Hi Steffi! Naoko told us she has a friend from Germany who checks Nina's channel more than she does. I guess that person is you! Thanks for leaving a comment.

    Oh, yeah!

  • parece que se le olvido la letra.

it seems that she forgot the lyrics. jaja

i didn't expect that she would turn off the piano,

    really smart.

  • Ha ha. We told her once that if she leaves the piano on the batteries will run out, so now she turns it off after EVERY song she plays. Ha ha.

  • TOTALLY AWESOME! :D

Can't get enuff of Nina growing up. :)

    ~Cindy! :)

    ..

  • Nina-chan is very funny! my younger cousin actually went to school with Eric Merollo, the dj who made that "I like to move it" song! it's a small world indeed! I was born in Colombia and spent two weeks in Saitama last year. my girlfriend Hiroko-chan, said people at starbucks laughed when they saw me dancing to a salsa song at a train station there! people in Japan don't dance in public! ha! ha!

  • Ha ha. Yeah, Japanese are not really big on public displays, unless they are at a sanctioned event, like a cosplay convention or something.

  • Interesting. I think we are not overly ambitious as parents to push Nina into anything in particular. At this point, we just want her to have fun, but she has always seemed to love dancing to music and singing, so maybe at some point we will nudge her in that direction. If you had it to do over, would you rather have enjoyed the process over having the "skills" you have now? Can you have both?

  • OMG, I am laughing so hard! I love it Nina! "I like to Move It" is one of my kickboxing workout songs!

  • Ha ha. Thanks, Heather. I heard that "Move It" song first in the "Madagascar" video for kids, but I guess the song exists separately from the movie? Nina really surprised us by suddenly bursting out with that song one day, weeks after we had watched the video. It's amazing how things stick in kids heads like that, waiting until the right time to pop out.

  • I think Nina is also musically talented! Wow!

  • hahahaha, lovely lovely video. Nina don't you ever lose that natural flow on camera:).

What can't your little girl do? She is absolutely multi talented!

  • Ha ha. I imagine she will go through a shy and self-conscious stage at some point in her life (maybe elementary school?), but we will try to keep her confidence up.

  • This is soooo cute.... I teach piano and voice and love to see kids this young who like music~ X3

  • Thanks! Any advice to musically illiterate parents like ourselves?

  • @geofg At such a young age definitely just sing with her, encourage her to sing (and play the harmonica, and the piano!!). Most kids love to sing, so she'll do this naturally. Also, get her to listen to a lot of different types of music, not just mainstream, kids like fun classical and ragtime music!

  • OK. I definitely agree that this is a good time to expose her to many different types of music.

  • Im so suprised ninachan's eng skill gettin better so fast . and lucky to her living tokai area. i hope ninachan work in yamaha if shes interested in music, or work toyota and suzuki if shes proud of her " hybrid abilitty " we need her. 楽しみですね。

  • hahahahaa

    Personification of cuteness!!

  • So, did you learn to play them? I had a harmonica too and took piano lessons for a bit, but never stuck with any of it, and now I am sadly musically illiterate.

  • @2:52 最高!oh yeaah! lol

  • She's so cute! When I was younger my dad bought a whole set of those same kind of harmonicas and let my younger brother and I each have one. I chose the key of F and I still have it today. =D

  • How did you choose F? Embarrassingly, I hadn't even realized that harmonicas come in different keys. Can you play any songs on yours?

  • I chose F because I play flute and at the time the F scale was my favorite scale to play on flute. =D I used to be able to play some songs my dad taught me when I first received the harmonica, but I don't remember them anymore. =P

  • Nina sings and plays her instruments with gusto! Really cute and funny. I love this one! :))

  • clap.. clap.. clap.. clap.. ^^

    bravooo nina..

    another great performance..

cant wait 4 another concert and jam session..

  • A great jamming clip for 2010! Simply adorable! Oh yeah!! Nina!!

  • Wow!!! What a star! I think we better make some "kidz band" videos. She's a budding genius!

  • Definitely, let's get the kidz band going. I noticed Mickey actually plays chords on the guitar. I guess the next step is to teach Nina some actual notes to play. Unfortunately Mama and Papa are musically illiterate, so we'll have to hit you up for some lessons for her.

  • She's SOOO Cute!!!

  • Go Nina! I hope I can learn to play guitar as well as she does harmonica. In another week she can probably teach me guitar.

I'm glad there was that shaker encore or I would've looked silly sitting here shouting "encore"--with a raised lighter. But at least I have the Frisbees and beach balls to throw around.

  • No performance is complete without a shaker encore.

  • Little kids just love to sing Move It, when my niece was around Nina's age I remember her walking around singing it too!

  • I guess it is an easy song to relate to.

  • OMG I'm holding my sides from laughing so hard! Too darn funny and cute as can be.

I LOVE this age! You can be and do anything you want and everybody loves you for it. Go Nina!

  • Thanks! I do think Nina has comedic timing. And, you're absolutely right about her having the confidence that she will be loved no matter what she does. Isn't it a shame that school and then work etc. often beat that confidence out of us.

  • すごい!何か最近凄く大人っぽい!

  • She's growing up TOO fast! Just be a kid a bit longer, Nina!

  • "I like the song, tooooooooo" crack me up all the time. You have the cutest daughter :)

  • I'd say her version of 'Move It' was much better than the original.

    ^^

    Very cute, as usual.

  • She is very serious about her pronunciation when she says, "Move it".

  • Cute, as always! I like the song too! Oh yeah...

  • Nina, you tell me when the album is released, I'll buy it!

  • She is really growing up. I noticed that in the last few videos. She is leaving babyhood, and entering little girl hood (is that a word?). How old is she now? About 4?

    Go, Nina! :D ~Cindy! :)

    ..

  • Yes, she's 4, and you're right, she has left babyhood far behind her.

  • Just when you think she can't get any cuter...POOF she does!! Now the big decision Nina, will you grow up to be a rock star or a doctor?

  • She'll probably surprise us all and go for something more mundane, like being an accountant.

  • HAHHA!! Nina you are too much. lol

  • She's over the top in everything she does. I guess that's what happens when you dote on a kid as much as we dote on her.

  • Oh yeaaaaaah!!!

    Go Nina!

Thanks for another enjoyable video. :)

  • GO NINA!!! Oh Yeah!!!

  • I love how clever she is, she has an outstanding sense of humor!

  • I'm pretty sure she will be a comedian when she gets older.

  • xDDD All the "Oh Yeah"s are so cute~!!

  • My wife says she got that from me, but I don't remember ever saying, "Oh yeah."

  • Oh! I didnt know you were an avant garde musician Nina :D

  • Nina, you're so creative.. I think you'll be an entertainer someday. GBU Nina :)

  • woouuuww Ninaaa, you're creative... hahaha love you :)

  • ¡ awesome !

  • one word.... adorable!

  • oh yeah!!!

  • Happy holidays!

Nice video again, she made my day! :)

  • Bravo, Nina!

  • She plays the harmonica pretty good =)

Such a cute little ball of energy.

  • haha she is just too adorable !!

  • *chuckle* she has so much confidence in everything she does! ^_^ go Nina! ^_^ [x]

  • Ah, the confidence of youth. Hopefully, she can keep her confidence even as she gets older.

  • That was great, Nina should totally record for my band. I like the little FWEEEPs she does with the harmonica! Nina = Epic Win.

  • Yeah, the FWEEPs are my favorite, too.

  • its great seeing her English improve more and more! ive been watching her grow up now! its kinda crazy weird...?

  • Oh great, Not only does Nina speak Japanese and English better than me. Now she is better at the piano than me. The only thing making my life worth living is the joy she brings to me with every video. Every day and in every way she is getting better better, and better.

  • same

  • Ha ha. Yeah, I feel that way, too. I can still reach things in high places better than she can, though.

  • Oh yeaaaaa! Hehe I have a feeling shes going to be a reformer as she grows up <3

  • Very cute!! Nina, and her creative song spins/creativity bursts!!

    :)

  • Thanks, as always!

  • "I loove nina's song and I love to watch nina too!"

oh yea! LOL nice song there talented Nina

  • o ya!

is there anything that this kid cannot do well.when i read the vlog intro,i said to myself...geof has gone too far(this might not be good).

it was soooooooooo good.avant garde musical skills @ her age...fantastic.

    and...she looks great in green!

  • Ha ha. I'm glad Nina lived up to her billing.

  • sweetie ^^

  • Amber

  • I'm glad watching Nina's videos could bring back some memories for you. Children change so quickly. Do you have much video of Amber from her younger years? How old is Amber now?

  • Amber is now six yrs old. In May of this year she will be 7 yrs old. Many of her videos are on different video discs and some are on a video cassette tape. We are still trying to get those made into a disc format, so we can put them on You Tube.

  • haha xD Waking up to see Nina on my subscription is list a great way to start the day. I agree with Nina, "Good music. It's gooood!"

  • Ha ha. Yeah, it's hard to argue with Nina's logic.

  • Oh my god I looooooove her ^______^

  • I loved the move it rendition lol that was awesome. Lol go Nina! Lol

  • great song!! nina~~

  • lmao. I loved when she went into "I like to move it move it" Haha Musician Doctor Artist. Nina does it all!! :D

  • Yeah, when she first watched Madagascar she was completely silent and fascinated. Then, a couple weeks later, I think, she suddenly busted out the "Move it" song. She pronounces it so clearly, it cracks me up every time.

  • haha, always she puts a smile on my face.
