I think those maps are not free after all, they have been already paid.
If Google can afford the maps projects and still can give the product away for free is because all the costs of that project has been paid with money we have already given to Google indirectly through the things we buy from his advertisers.
Regarding the monopoly issue, an example, broadcast TV has been showing content for free for decades, and still the movie industry has survived, by being smart and finding the way.
Why can't anyone else do like google and do these things for fun? If you dislike any of the free services google provide, someone will be there to sell their version to you.
Do I care that Facebook don't make profit from me? Why are you not bemoaning the lack of social networks that charge?
If Google can provide a better service at a better price (i.e. free) then that is most definitely a good thing for society. The flaw in your argument is that you're caring about companies, not customers.
Seriously Alex nailed every single point down to the T. Hearing Kevin talk made me want to strangle him lol, he had absolutely no clue what he was talking about and completely missed Alex's very legitimate concerns.
Google understands that you don't make money on the internet by charging for content. Because only about five people are going pay for it. So they have to make their money by giving stuff away for free. If other companies understand that too, they can compete with Google. If they don't understand it, they will go broke. That simple.
I love the show and have watched every week for years, but breaking each episode down into segments and posting over the week is annoying. I don't see why they do it except for more views. Maybe instead post some classic episodes for us to watch.
@fluideight well its not to get views. its more to you can watch with stories you want without downloading and scrolling through it. or even if you want to see a preview of the show, before you watch the full show.
Google and WalMart, it's all we are going to have. Suck ass.

we have reached a point where we are realizing that the ratio of rich to poor is terrifying.
